desertdeweller
went to torque down the cool head I had just purchased and felt one of the studs pull. Its the long stud in the front so do you think a helicoil would hold or is it not worth trying.
gumby6t9
Of course its worth trying. Just do it right the first time, if you're not comfortable doing it take it to someone that is.

wayfast1500
heli coils have always worked well for me in situations like that.
desertdeweller
I have done them before just not on a cylinder I was just wondering if it would hold up to the cooling system and cylinder pressures. was also worried that the tap might distort the top of the cylinder enough that it wouldn`t let it seal right Edited October 2, 2008 by desertdeweller
Tim Potteiger
I currently have 2 stud holes heli-coiled. 1 has been that way for 3 years, the other for about 6 months and it is the long one in the front. Be careful doing it or take it to someone who is experienced with doing it.
87_shee
On my old cylinders i had 6 helicoils for the studs and never had a problem, but i agree that if you don't know how to do it right then take it to some one that does.
