bbcmudtruck
I bought a brand new set of works dual rates valved for my wieght and arms last fall. So far they are much better than stock but I honestly think they could be better. Should I go with some elkas or what? Ryan

desertdeweller
it may not be the shocks but you well sort of. don`t take it wrong it may be your personal preferances are different from what the company does. even though it is set up to your weight riding style etc. it may not be right for you. some people like a really stiff set up. personaly I don`t I have bad hands tendonitous [sPELLING} in both. I like a very soft front end to help reduce the shock to the handlebars. I have +3 arms on my shee but have the shocks set up for +2 I also tell them a lighter weight. I also run a vw steering stabalizer on mine. It took some fab work for that but it allows me to ride for a lot longer periods. It mounts on the frame in between the pipes up to the steering stem, so you can`t even see the thing unless you look hard. I have had that on there for about 4 years with no problems. So you may just try changing spring rates to change it to your liking and then consider revalve after that.

bbcmudtruck
I don't take offense to that at all, thats why I posted the question. I like the way they ride over normal terrain, I think they handle pretty good over potholes and ruts. However when we go out hitting the terraces and doubles, it bottoms out way to easy. I ordered them for a 200lbs rider for +2 arms with mx valving. I figured I would be able to jump them better than I can. Would the newer 450 shocks handle the jumps any better? desertdeweller
I doubt they would in stock form you would probably end up revalving and respringing those as well. you may just need a stiffer primary spring for you then. You can order springs through works directly. If you have a local suspension shop check with them they may even stock some. they should be set up so you bottom occasionaly but not easily. so you may need to go up a rate or two. I have talked with them several times and were a big help.

bbcmudtruck
Maybe I need to upgrade to some tripple rates with rezzies?
desertdeweller
with tripple rates the secondary spring is 2 instead of one with collars in them they each can be different rates. once the spring has the collar loaded it then loads the next spring. those 2 are intended for the smaller bumps. Where as the larger primary spring is to absorb the larger stuff like jumps. So if you don`t increase the spring rate there even with tripples you will still bottom. You may be fine with just a primary spring rate change with out any valving done. as far as rezzies go all they help do is keep the fluid cooler and keep them from fadding. They also increase the fluid capacity. if your doing hard rough motos or desert racing they might help some. but if your bottoming a lot on the first lap it won`t help that. bbcmudtruck
Well that makes sense. So keep my dual rates with the top spring, and try a heavier main spring? Ryan
desertdeweller
yep give works a call they will help you out, they may even have dealers in your area with springs on hand. Let them know what is happening and how hard you are bottoming. wether you are light bottoming which is fairly typical or bottoming that cause your legs to buckle and how often ie twice per lap 10 times per lap etc. That way it gives them a good idea how much to increase spring rate. They may even recomend you change both primary and secondary.
indiana banshee
I had the same issue as you. They told me i could put a heavier spring in and that will solve my issues.
