If anyone could do it, Walmart would sell it. All you need to say.

Anyone can do a clean up port. Just smooth out some edges and clean up factory casting flaws....

But any real porting, changing dimensions, specs, timing, etc....should be left to someone with better experience and knowledge.

Keep in mind, the CR has a Nikasil coated cylinder, does he know how tough that stuff is to port through, especially with a DREMEL?

I'm all for experimenting yourself...but he needs to plan on buying a new or used cylinder in case he totally hoses it up.

From what I have read on here anybody can port a 2 stroke and you have to start some where.

Lots of smilies so we all know it was a joke.

as long as you say, "with all due respect" it should be fine.

Tell him after he ports it and fucks up the integrity of the nikasil around the port edges and it starts flaking off then he can buy his kid the big bore kit that will be required to get it running again. To properly port a nik'd jug you need to strip it, port it and then re-nikasil the jug. Otherwise the piston is going to rip that shit right off the walls.

Anyone can 'port' a cylinder, but very few can do it right.

There are plenty of people that port nikasil without it being stripped off, and they work fine.

Now...is it easier to port w/o nikasil, yes...sure is.

Would builder rather do it that way...? Yes...sure would.

With patience, a steady hand and the right tools, you can port through the nikasil.

But you're right....it's not something a beginner should be doing....
