jbooker82
IVe been studying E85 for quite some time.... a local station carrying it is the sole reason I currently have a 97 banshee frame in my garage.. I plan to build an e85 burning quad... what I am not certain about is what you have to do about mixing oil.... what kind of oil mixes with ethanol? I know some people run 100% ethanol but I don't actually know anyone who does.. I need info on that... I also read that E85 was 115 octane. Don You will need Klotz Supertechniplate, Klotz Benol, or Maxima 927. These three oils blend with alachol. Klotz Supertechniplate would be the one I would run. 80% synthetic oil, 20% Benol Caster oil. You will need to have the carbs setup for alachol too. If you run keihins they have to have the dump tubes drilled out. They are non replaceable so if you go to big then you will need new carbs. Lectrons, or Mikuni TMX (I think) can be changed out. josh
FireHead
Running E85 is similar to running any other alcohol fuel type. You have to have larger jets and your fuel range compared to gasoline will go down. On the positive side of things, it's cheaper and burns cooler, which allows you to get more pwer out of the engine......... :geek:

FireHead
does anyone know if it burns slower. Slower=more power Two things: 1.) A slower burn of your fuel/air mixture doesn't always mean more power. 2.) Because of the nature of alcohol fuels, you can run a much higher A/F ratio which means a larger volume of BTU's can get into your combustion chamber, which is at a lower temp. than with gas, which is where the additional power potential comes from. :geek:
imgoodatwhatido
ok these are the kinds of answers i was looking for....one more question...would an e_85 motor have to be purged like a alcohol motor?
