Front Bumper and Footrests

I'm taking off my front bumper and the stock footrests (silver), and want to paint them up black.

I'd rather work on the bike myself instead of going and getting it powder coated.

What grit sand paper will I need to sand off the silver, and make it paint ready?

What type of spray paint should I use?

Should I put a clear coat over it?

I want my stock rims to be black too...but I might buy new rims, so I dont want to spend a lot on it.

I'm all for doing it yourself but by the time you buy paint, cear coat, sand paper and your time you would be far better off to pc. It,s also far more durable, especailly for those parts that will get wear and tear. If you still want to paint I would start at about 80-100 grit and work down to 400 paint with a sandable primer then wet sand that with a 600 grit, paint your color then clear. I'm not a pro painter, that"s just what has worked for me in the past.

PC Is the way to go bro... By the time you buy the sandpaper, paint and clear coat you

might as well just PC them. I did front and rear bumbers, brake lever, foot pegs for 45

bucks... I tried to do as much pre prep as possible though... But hey for 50 bucks they

will look damn near better than new!

id take a grinder to the footrests first and shave those stupid plastic heal guard mounts off, aside from them lookin gay as hell, its just a sharp peice of metal sticking off the side ready to stab you if you flip, i shaved all the mounts off mine and painted them black with dupont non skid coating, very weird texture to it, like real fine grit in it, even when muddy they dont get slippery at all, it worked well and cost about $4, i used a wire wheel to strip the old paint then sanded them a bit, it holds up pretty well, and when i got a few chips in the paint, ill just respray them in a couple mins after washing
