So, I was going to buy the Trail Tech HIDs today and my buddy brought up the idea that I might need to run a battery to get the HIDs to fire up. Does anybody know if I do and how I do it?

Yep you have to run a battery, and rewire your electrical system. Your banshee's head lights run on ac. HID lights have to run on dc current. So you have to convert the banshee's system to dc. Float the ground on the stator, wire up a regulator/rectifier and add a battery.
