Mirage
Hi everyone, i need some definate help with checking my bike for an air leak on the right side cylinder (brake lever side). What works best to spray on the motor for checking? Also What exact area's of the motor do i need to spray, that are common on shee's for leaking? And lastly do i need to check the bike as soon as i get it started and idling good because of the hot exhaust being so close by (not full warm up)? Also do i need to listen for the rpm's to drop or gain?
Paddleboy
if you have a boost bottle, thats your problem. the most seen spot is the rubber intake boots that your carbs connect to. spray carb cleaner or starting fluid around there and listen for an rpm gain. it dont matter if the engine is war or cold as long as it idles good
05.Banshee.SE
When was your last leak down test? When you do a compression test, you should also do a leak down.
Onesickcrewcab
The only proper way to check for an air leak is a leak down test. You can make a tester for about 20-25 bucks at your local hardware and automotive store. Get some freeze plugs to plug up your exhaust. Find some PVC that fits into your intakes, and some caps. A pressure guage of some kind and a valve stem. If you need help making one, PM me and I will show you some pictures of what you need to get and how to make it. I use rubber stoppers from McMaster Carr catalog for about a buck a piece. Drill a hole in one for some poly tubing and connect a regulator with a gauge then a 3 way ball valve (open to air pressure, open to atmosphere and closed) and a quick coupling to connect to my compressor with "press lok" fittings. 6 psi and a bottle of soapy water. If your really slick, the best way is to pull a vacuum in the case instead of pressurizing it but then you have to have a vacuum gauge and a small cavuum pump and regulate your "lack of pressure". Some guys do both, I haven't done the vacuum test yet although I have all the stuff. Pressure test suits me just fine. SP
