Wildcardracing
The second kit is a pretty good deal, Just ordered a crank (trued/welded) and pistons from Jeff at FAST for $628 shipped with no gaskets or seals. You can expect to pay at least $50 for those. I wouldn't recommend the spacer plate setup though. You're much better off to have it ported for the increased stroke and run stroker domes. See right now i have a mx port and cool head so it would be better to get cut domes? why so, what are the pros and cons here? If the price is that close i would rather order from some1 like Jeff anyways
elwilliams13
I just had a 4mil done by slobanshee06 and I bought the crank for 385. porting was 275 and pistons around 180 domes 75 so that is around how much it would run separate. If you decide to send out your cylinders turnaround time is fast and customer service is A-1. PM slobanshee06 and talk to him if you want the port. I recommend it my bike runs awesome power everywhere.

If the price is that close i would rather order from some1 like Jeff anyways I agree, Jeff is a good guy and has a good reputation. If you buy from him, you know what you're getting. As far as the porting, it will largely depend on where your transfer ports are at if you will be able to have it re-ported for the 4mil or run those jugs with the 4mil at all. -slo

Wildcardracing
Spacer plate is just what it says, a 2mm plate below the cylinders to raise the whole assembly up so the pistons don't kiss the head, without the plate the pistons will travel 2mm beyond the deck of the cylinders..so the domes are cut 2mm deeper to compensate for this. The spacer plate has 2 negative drawbacks....especially if you're trying to get as much bottom end power as possible. 1st..It raises all of the ports 2mm higher so your durations increase and are out of whack(puts the exhaust at @196 which is acctually more of an aggressive dune port duration matched to say CPI's) and this also makes the floors even higher which allready need to be lowered to match the stroke. 2nd..It adds one more base gasket to the bottom of the cylinder which creates on more place for an air leak to form. The cut domes are better for two reasons. 1st..no additional sealing surfaces to form air leaks. 2nd..Port durations are left to the builder to extract the best performance suited to your riding needs. The 4mil is an excellent upgrade in that it will add power everywhere low end through top end. You have added displacement and power stroke. You can get away with a little more port duration while maintaining a lot of power/compression stroke. With cut domes and my portwork I can match to a midrange pipe and extract a ton more low to mid power and even more top end power than with a spacer plate. Besides...With no spacer plate, who's to know what you have??!!
dajogejr
I understand you're trying to do this cheaply....if you're going to stick to trail/mx style riding, I agree...get the cylinders ported for the extra stroke. If you're going for more dune/drag power, use the spacer plate. So...add into your equation more porting and cut heads/domes for the stroker.... Nothing is EVER drop in... Its not so much that im looking to get off easy, i was just seeing if these kits where a good buy or not. Im not goin to run the soacer plate, def going to get some cut domes, and yes i will be trailing riding and such.. Is case porting a good idea while the motor is open? Is a 4mil a good trail setup? Is a 4mil a good trail setup? i would recommend getting the parts from an engine builder. one of those ads says the crank has been trued and welded. i would much rather have a builder weld and true it and to add more fuel to the fire, go with either maxload or tz bearings on the crank. an extra 4mm of stroke would be a good addition. locogato11283
the spacer plate is a cheap ass ghetto way to build a 4mm motor. do it right and run cut domes and have the porting reworked. remember cheaper is NOT always better. take some time. do some research. and most importantly, PLAN AHEAD!!! it will save you money in the long run. tedd1
Them Inland guys are good folks. I bought one of these kits from them last spring. I had spun a lower rod bearing on the right side and had to rebuild. I already knew I wanted to go bigger than stock, so I got one of these kits from Inland and rode it with a spacer for a while. I thought it ran very well. The kit from Inland has Wiseco pistons, Hotrods crank, and Cometic gaskets. It was all good stuff. I am not trying to say that a spacer is the way to go. It was a quick, temporary fix for me while I figured out what I wanted for a top end. Rick
