what king of set up it's the best for drag race

My 4 mill stock cylinder drag bike is not fast enough for me. I want more power and I think about three set-up.

1) 4mill 68mm cub drag ported (421cc)

2) 4mill 72mm super cub drag ported (472cc) (Sell my cool head for another 72mm big bore)

or sell my +4mm +5mm rod hot rod crank and buy a 10mill for:

3) 10 mill 68mm cub clean up port (465cc)

4) 10 mill 68mm cub drag ported (465cc)

Of the setups you listed: 10mil cub, cleaned up

Honestly, the lectrons would be your best bet

Generally, small bore pipes would be best IMO, but depending on who does the porting also depends on which pipe you want to run, every setup is different.

The only thing that determines reliability is how well the engine is put together and maintained. A 350cc engine can be un-reliable...don't skimp on putting quality parts in there, use what's best if you want a long-lived engine.

I have a 10 mil cub, cleaned up by me...with 41.3 packard lectrons on alky. (40mm bored by Packard to 41.3)

I had issues beginning of last year due to incorrect domes. Sorted.

I smoked one piston because I got WAY too greedy on the powerjet. Sorted.

Last year and this year...strip, dunes, ice, 300 to 660 foot, etc...it just keeps on running.

Don't get greedy on the fuel, read your plugs...listen to the motor.

My bike is nothing special....it just runs. Nothing exotic, nothing custom or one off, just off the parts shelf bike.

It has hundreds of runs on it.

I'd say the only custom thing I have on the bike are domes cut for alky by Patriot Racing...everything else is bolt on.

I'm 250lbs....and I put quite a load on the motor, too...lol.

Setup, Setup, Setup.....

I would be happy to PM you every spec of my motor, spark plug to drain plug...it is really nothing special.

10 mil cub is just good clean power and a price hard to beat.

DMs run very strong, but they take more work and more money to setup...to be honest.

I agree...quality parts. But you don't have to over do it, either...I run 300ft sand MOST of the time.

A few passes on the ice (660 foot) and some at the dunes (300 to 500 foot)

thank bigboybanshee and dajogejr.

I want a affordable set up

I actually have vf3, prodesign cool head, shearer inframe sb sf pipe and a set of outframe pipe

If i go wtih the super cub, i'm obligated to change my head, but with cub no

with 10 mill i have to change my crank and trench the case, but i think 10mill cub outrun 4 mill supercub.

i have keihin 36 and lectron 40, i want to use this carbs.

I dont want to change all my set up aroud, it's why i want cub or supercub...

It's possible to run a 10mill 68mm cub on gas with keihin 36 and shearer inframe sb sf for play drag (on my track) and switch to 40 lectron, alky oof pipe and smaller dome for weekend drag?

I know it's not the best set up, but i think it's run..

If i going with 10 mill cub setup, i have to trench the case, buy new crank sol my 4mill crank, buy a cub and a set of dome for my cool head, or run with my actual dome. if i going with 4mill supercub, i have to trench the case (for the larger sleeve), buy new head and sol my old head, and by the cub, i think i slighly the same cost: what do you think about that?

for hp, what it's the best?

thank you..

To be 100% honest, 4 to 10 mil cub or super cub are all VERY Close.

Setup is key...

I had a 4 mil on gas, it was a great bike. I never put a lockup, override or alky on it. I wish I would've...but, I'm a big guy...and I built my 10 mil motor for very, very little out of pocket. It was an easy choice for me.

The super cubs run well, they require more porting to work well...and the cases have to be bored for the 72mm piston.

You're going to have to decide if you want to sell your crank, buy a new one and trench cases or keep the crank, bore cases and get a new head.

Everything else is bolt on...

If you weren't in Quebec, I could get you good pricing on all the parts. I have to be honest, I won't ship International.

4 mil super and 10 mil cub are very close...I'm biased towards the 10 mil because mine runs very well for me.

4mm and 10mm cub are hands down the best engines for the money. depending on setup and rider the 4mm can keep right up with or beat a 10mm motor. i personally have a 10mm cub. used to have a 4mm. the 10mm has a little more off the line than the 4.. that way i can pull taller gearing with it.. i say go for 10mm..

Heres my setup... 421 cub, port matched cases, the jugs have been cleaned up some by who i have no idea, 40mm keihins on 110 octane gas, v-force reeds, k&n, pd head custom domes, 190 psi, lockout clutch, small bore inframe cpi, timing 7, plus 4 swinger, dual rate elkas in front.. Im 6ft1 200lbs and i cant keep this thing on the ground with 10 paddle haulers. Thing is a RIOT to ride, i dune and drag it...to be honest i have no need for any more power unless i wanted to not dune it period and just go straight which im not willing to do.. a well built 421 is a mankiller imo  Im going to sandfest here in a couple weeks ill get some vids for yall, try and get it on a dyno if possible to, anxious to see what its pulling

to me it also comes down to weight for example if you weight under 190 i would say just get a 4 mil cub or super cub, but if you weight 200++++++++than i would say you need a bigger stroke there for more torque......you also need to get your bike as light as possible and find a good gearing set up with the right tires and suspension...thoese are my 2 cents

Yep....weight is key. It is painfully obvious to me when I watch someone 100 to 125 lbs lighter than me take the bike down the track....

I run very consistent on my bike...but nothing earth shattering on times.

I put a lighter rider on there....it's like adding a BIG Shot of NOS. The lighter riders consistently turn 2 to 3 tenths faster....higher MPH...whole 9 yards.

Weight on the dunes doesn't make as big of a difference, but in organized racing, no one weighing 250lbs is turning the same numbers as a 125 lb jockey...guaranteed....

I understand the light Jockey's, but I will not watch someone else ride my quad. We built it and we will ride it. My son weighs 200 lbs. + and I weighed 220 + lbs. dressed out when I went 10.23 in the 1/4 mile. I'm sure ours would be faster with a small jockey, but it will not happen on our quad. Bryan

I am with you 100%. I ride my own quad, ALL of the racing we do is bracket racing...and I cut pretty good lights and am pretty consistent.

The only race of the year that is heads up is Gilbert, Planet Sand...and AVI in a few months.

I couldn't make the trip to Gilbert, I sent my bike down just for a buddy to ride and enjoy the trip.

The fact our friend Frank got 2nd in a BIG class...well, luck and Frank's skill had a lot to do with that.

I'll let just about anybody ride my bike, most of our riding is test and tune... I like to see what my bike can do with a lighter rider.

But I ride it in the classes....I built it, I ride it. I'll let others ride it in a faster class (cause I can't turn the times with my big ass) but any class that is index or bracket which I have the ability to ride in...I will ride it...:)

AMEN!

I'll be damned if I'm gonna sink all this time, money, and tuning into a ride to hand over the tether, lol! I agree a bigger rider won't be AS fast, but there are ways for us to pick up lost time, we just have to set our bikes up different than the featherweights, and try harder.

I surprised a lot of people when i ran this on my 4mil earlier this year, several folks said because of my weight I probably wouldn't get out of the 20's, I'm #111, left lane. 4.134 ET, 1.54 60'
