  1. You could use 21cc domes at either elevation or you could run 21cc domes at the 50' elevation and 19cc at St. Anthony, both on 93 octane, if you don't mind switching them. If you run the 19cc at 50' elevation, you will certainly need race gas. (if you advance the timing, be careful with pump gas at 50' and 21cc)
  2. With the BHQ discount, it is $234 + shipping. 21cc domes are usually okay with premium pump gas. It depends on your other mods and your elevation. -David
  3. This is just my opinion but, until you know for sure, I'd at least mix some race gas in. By the time detonation shows up on a plug the damage will probably already be done. Plugs are a lot harder and melt at a lot higher temperature than a piston. If you trash it because of detonation you could be looking at a complete teardown to clean up the mess. I'm probably cautious but I run 110 with 19cc at 800'-1400' elevation and my timing isn't advanced.
  4. Scott, There are others here more qualified to answer that. I've heard a lot of differing opinions but know that advancing does increase temps and tendency to detonate. -David
  5. This is off topic but: You may be pushing the limits of pump gas with the 19cc domes and stock timing but with it advanced, I would definitely be afraid of pump gas. Your porting could change that but probably not a minor port. What is your compression.

    Need Cool Head

I have new ones. Silver, Black, Blue, or Red. Dave, David, DL, Dumba..(as my wife calls me sometimes) ... any will work.
  7. I do have base spacer plates if Vitos is out.
  8. What all did you do when you did the top end? Pistons and rings, port, deck head, etc.? Have you checked the compression?
  9. That's pretty low. What is your elevation? Are your cylinders ported?
  10. Don't sell the head and take a loss. There has to be a solution or I'll refund your money. Are the four center studs longer than the rest so the nuts bottom out before they get tight? Call me tomorrow. -David
  11. I just went out to the Verizon web site then called them. Verizon doesn't have coverage for my area. That sucks. It sounded pretty good.
  12. I'd like one that I could hook up to a laptop or a modem.
  13. Does anyone know if there is a good cell phone service that provides an internet connection? I looked into this a couple years ago but could only find the service available in heavily populated areas like NY and LA.
  14. I just got back from a trip to Colorado to get away from the Oklahoma heat and humidity. BHQ was down when I left town so I couldn't get my fix before leaving. I ran in to the local library a couple of times to use their internet connection; checking emails and BHQ status. The new format looks great and seems a lot faster. Thanks Lee! I started going thru new posts last night .... 16 pages .... even with the downtime. If I missed any topics I needed to respond to, let me know.
  15. Great looking website, Jim. I'm sure it will generate interest among people who want a serious engine. I'll bet there are a few engine builders who hope their previous and prospective customers don't discover your site.
  16. Higher compression and advanced timing do increase the engine temp. The cooling of the Noss head is more 'even' than many other aftermarket heads so the cylinders as well as the combustion chamber are cooled better. Some heads flow coolant quickly which doesn't do as much good as flowing coolant thoroughly. Heat must be transferred to the coolant so it can be removed by the radiator if it and the water pump are working properly. It won't cure other problems like improper jetting, clogged or blocked radiator, malfunctioning water pump, or other things like that.
  17. I have seen pretty consistant temperature drops with the head; anywhere from 15 to 45 degrees even with the increased compression. Engine Ice is pretty inexpensive though unless you're wanting to get a head anyway.
  18. Gordy isn't there anymore. I used to talk to him and now talk to Tom.
  19. I have heard nothing but good things about them and have been pleased with all my dealings with them. Call them.
  20. Post some pictures of your installation if you can.
  21. Was it a turn-key deal like Duece's or did Jim port it and you assembled everything? I'm not trying to imply anything just curious.
  22. The only reason to switching to the Noss head would be if you like the looks better and it cools a little better. The down side would be finding and having to install stock studs. The PD studs would be too long. Don't get me wrong.... I'd like to sell a head to you. -David
  23. Just a couple of thoughts.... I don't know what your elevation is there but if you are close to sea level and running pump gas you probably don't want to go a whole lot higher than 140-150 compression anyway with the +4 timing. On the other hand, unless your head was rechambered when it was milled you have a fairly narrow squish area. The squish area on my domes is considerably wider than stock which is going to give you more low end. If you got good results milling the head, then I would say try the VForce reeds next. If it's still pretty pipey and you want to broaden the powerband more, I would recommend the head.
  24. The power gains vary with dome size and other mods. In my experience, I have never had a customer tell me they were dissatisfied with the performance gains, or anything else, with the head. As a standalone mod, you can usually expect a 2-5 hp gain and better throttle response. The first heads I manufactured cooled about the same as the PD head. With the current design, flow characteristics were improved which provided better and very even cooling.
