  1. Wow!!! That is a lot of thing to think about!! Thx!! I will have to do the 3d model of the trany if we want to do majors upgrades with those kind of nice ideas!!
  2. I'm pretty set on 4145, wich i can make as hard/soft as i want. Just asking for any new idea. Fast4You suggested Derlin but i think it's too weak.
  3. At about 11k psi, do you think the pins will hold under stress?
  4. The eom one are too short? I saw that mull engineering lenghten them. if one pin break, what's the case scenario?
  5. Anyway guys, i really dont pretend to reinvent the wheel but i would like to have any inputs on any design i try. Now, it's the shifting star, if any of you have an idea about an improvment, just voice it, we will discuss it, i'm really open and if we put our brain together, maybe we can improve some parts. Like i said, im a tranny noob, i wonder how munch stress the star is under and if it can be made in aluminium, 6061(45k psi) or 7075(84k psi) vs 4140 steel (95k psi) Sorry for my bad english, i'm a french Cannuck!
  6. I'm using abaqus already. But like you said, for an engine, that would be very complex and over my head. I'm pretty decent at fea but noob at cfd. Anyway, if i had an engine already done (3d wise) i woul like too play with it for fun. Another option would be to give that as a student project (msc or phd) at a university neer you. Sorry for my bad english, i'm a french Cannuck!
  7. Inventor was the first parametric 3d software that i used back in 98, we switched to catia in 2000 iirc. Sorry for my bad english, i'm a french Cannuck!
  8. Where do you work? Sorry for my bad english, i'm a french Cannuck!
  9. Solidwork and Catia are both Dassault system's softwares. Solidwork is made for small to medium buisness and is more user friendly.
  10. Are you serious ??? About all aeronautic, automotive and shipyards industries are using Catia. buisness like Bombardier, Boeign, Dassault, Lockheed Martin,80% of F1 teams, Ford, Chrysler etc... Catia is a high end high priced 3d engineering solution. it's not a toy that a small or even medium buisness can afford. it's about 60k each fucking station!! That beeing said, all 3d modelers are about the same for basics funtions, so if you learned Catia, you can easily make the transition to SolidWork, Inventor, Solidedge, Proe etc...
  11. It's not the same technologie. That's what i use :
  12. Straight cut gears are on my do list for this winters. We got a brand new wire EDM and i didnt play with it yet. Basket plate too. Just watch my DIY thread like this one.
  13. Wich one would you like? My plan is to make as munch parts as i can over the years. Long term project if you like.
  14. From the 'all engineer are dumbfuck' thread, You should know that i teach that stuff and doing those kind of projects keep me in touch with cnc's and all that shit. So, it's win/win situation for me. I'm doing my stuff and it also keep me sharp on those tools, plus, if the project can fit in one of my course, it's easier to keep students interest high with 'real life' parts.
  15. I've got Streamline Relfex shorty levers and loved them. Good choice too.
  16. Some people buy it over the net (like the mull one), or grind it out, b ut i like to make my stuff
  17. Sure, but keep in mind that the strengh of your parts will be about 5Mpa or about 725psi, wich is pretty weak. It's for mockup purpose only...
  18. Hi guys, i'm going to tear my tranny apart soon and doing some mods. I'm starting by the shift star. So the first step i did was to sketch one in 3d, close to the real size. I will simply adjust the model when i will have it in my hand. Then, since our 3d printer is working now (was broke for 3 month) i did a little printing this morning. I will do it in 4140 and adjust the hardeness (heat treatment) to match the eom one. So, for those who are interested, i will keep you in touch step by step with the project. Feel free to ask questions.
  19. You can do the 'two in the pink, one in the stink' sign, but no middle fingers? Lol! ;-) . https://youtu.be/hSmanhbQ7vg

  21. Just find a buisness who do laser cutting, should be easy to find.
  22. No one is using software like, Fluent or Abaqus for flow analysys? I would like to have a 3d model of a cylinder to play with, even if my knowledge of pprting is at noob level. Sorry for my bad english, i'm a french Cannuck!
  23. It's over kill, but cant go wrong doing what you did. I forgot the tell to read the plug after the first run.
  24. I dont agree. If he's asking about mixing ratio and oil, i dont think he can read a plug. Even if he know how to read a plug, knowing that his plugs are lean or fat will not help him if he dont know his mixing ratio. That's why i suggested 40:1 with synt oil. Less oil = more fuel, engine run cooler and the syn oil will take care of rest. So, maybe the ts can give us some more info? Did you know at wich oil ratio your shee was ? Do you know how to read a plug? Sorry for my bad english, i'm a french Cannuck!
