If you float the ground, it became DC. But, you will have voltage peaks and you dont want that so you need a "regulator" to always have a stable 12v. Or you buy a unit that do both and you dont need to play with the stator. You can find some of those unit on ebay. Or you make one, like i did. Here in Canada,VP fuel is off the chart for someone who actually ride his Shee. Too much comp and the engine will fight itself... I run 100LL fuel, i find it a good compremise vs expensive race fuel.
