My past experience was a 421 Serval dune ported by cam on race gas w/ 35’s. Usable power far surpassed my expectations but I couldn’t carry enough gas for the big dunes. Hindsight I should have experimented with different carbs. I had a used driveline LP 421 as cast fall in my lap and I used 33’s. Pulled 78hp on the dyno at 5000’ so maybe 85hp sea level. Fuel economy has been exceptional but you know, “just a little more would be perfect” haha. So the engine is at Cam’s shop for a freshen up, pro mod etc. I need to decide soon to have him port it or not. My fear is loosing considerable fuel economy? Anybody play with these cylinders that can share experience? Thanks!

Raptor radiator sure works well on the steel frame conversions and is a touch smaller HxW and a little thicker than Banshee radiator -
YFZ450R/Redline 421 serval hybrid

Ricky Torres on the FB YFZ-Banshee conversion site had a real nice radiator made to his specs. Was generally a budget build so I don't think the price was astronomical. If you have any troubles looking him up for more datails, let me know and I'll help get you guys connected. -
A little late but clearing this for the next guy as it drove me crazy till I figured it out. There is a sneaky adjustment in the middle where the cable goes from 1 in 2 cables. Spin top and bottom to get more throw. Separately you use different length barrel adjuster on carb .

I’ve played with a few. Wife’s 4 mil makes great linear power. I wouldn’t try a 35. 39-41 would be best.

YFZ450R/Redline 421 serval hybrid

WIll be great to see an R finished. Couple things from your post: Arlan is $2,500 +/- with no real timeframe. I like your CPI Idea, tried and true. If you go IMS the tank is not weldable, took me a long time to accept this. I was able to torch and bend the carb yfz IMS tank to clear plugs. Cam's dune ported 421 serval would drink a stock tank so quick! I thought I blew it up my first ride but it just ran out of gas that quick. Have since demoted to an as cast Assassin. Pods were a pain. Snorkles to pods in back would not let 421 sing. I ordered $400 worth of K&N Pods from Oreilys knowing I could return them. I settled on one 5" 10 degree and one 5" 20 degree. Was very nervous it would not be enough air but it works with my 85hp setup w/ 33's. Look forward to your updates! -
I'm usually game for St A. 200 miles away in Boise, Idaho. I might even have powder on my YF-Shee by then. Would love to ride more but don't know many dune goons that ride real quads anymore.

Want Real Long Travel Not Paying LSR/Laeger!
WALZ replied to WALZ's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Thank you for the answers and insight. I currently have $13,000 pile worth of used parts that make up the beginnings of YF-Shee Hybrid. The heart should arrive around thanksgiving :)) -
I picked up a yfz and was ready to do a conversion but then another damn banshee fell in my lap. It's got too many trick parts to not use a banshee based frame. If I found a Laeger frame/arms heck protrax of course I'd have to jump but I have only seen complete bikes in the last 12 months with too many parts I don't want to deal with. How crazy/stupid is it to think about narrowing the frame at the A-arm mounts then doing something like +4 arms? If you find a thread pertaining to this please forward. Banshee frames are $225 all day and I'm tempted to give it a go unless it's just a poor idea that's been tried before.

banshee redo just mailed me a charriot for $100. He should have more

can anyone tell what pipes? I'm guessing he started w T5's? TIA

Maybe do seal behind sprocket too while your perfecting the coarse screw removal skills. I use a deep socket to install the shift seal, larger regular socket works for the seal behind sprocket.

Trying to staple on a cover, never had this difficulty. staples collapse on impact. tried t50 HD and stainless in 1/4 and 3/8". using a quality electric stapler and tried my trusty handheld. Went to buy a pneumatic at the depot but it took a wide crown staple starting at 1/2". Have done many seats, this brittle old banshee seat is giving me troubles. thanks for the advice.

Teixeira Tech Long Travel YFZ arms on a Banshee
WALZ replied to zmoto93's topic in YFZ - Banshee Conversion Forum
+1 on the Alba. Quality is pretty good and price is excellent! My experience was on a heavily built Serval, I never did get the weight transfer sorted with LT. Rebuilt aftermarket shocks twice but really the +2+1 handled better for me on my application. -
Call me at 208-703-1168 if you seriously want me to haul bikes and split profits then. There are two more banshees in my area for $2k. I'll put out want to buy ads and scoop more up when people are looking for xmas cash. I'll inspect and hold, then drive at least a few out early next spring ... but only if you have enough confidence to throw down 1/2 the cash. I'm also deep into R's, 02+ CR's and 92+ CR500's. i had a few people willing in the next couple weeks for $1800. Yes, that is what I received.

You are completely right. I had 4 mill on the brain, just finishing a new build. They are drilled out for +4 timing advance. Please disregard my 4 mill comment.

before the ingenious design of the adjustable stator plates builders would drill out the holes on the stator plate to gain timing. Rotate assembly clockwise to gain the much needed banshee timing advance. We can call that a freebie if you prefer. The package with cool head and domes is still of decent value.
