Haha negative. I’m hoping the gold becomes an accent and ties in with the other colors. I didn’t intend gawdy, just a touch of different. Engine internals will be behind black chrome and in the background. Last thing I need is a full billet polished build again. Still have to polish the wife’s show quad, damnit

Pro mod Pro mod makes trans stronger? How would removing every other dog ear be stronger?

I am sure he has, not really the point being made. Cam does have my driveline currently and urged 35mm plus to be more precise. He also put 35’s on my last serval. But anyway...

I have the same engine and reeds but larger pipes. I too got the answer from them about not being able to tune for 28's. I've been down the road of 35's and know for my riding area I need the fuel economy and I like the lower power. I settled on 33's taking his advice in consideration. There are plenty of folks running 28's, tuned in well and they are happy. I sometimes get buyer remorse and wish I would have stuck with 28's. Opinions are like kittens, everyone giving them away, myself included. Cam at Redline will shake his head if you want any smaller than 35mm. Whats his name who builds CPI pipes and dynos thousands with an AFR swears you'll never be tuned right without Mikunis 🤮. Rock the 28's if you got em!

The 250r was fun to look at but didn't have that Banshee excitement. I'm over that. New build coming along slowly as parts arrive: The black chrome looks very different in different lights. The gold dust in the red really sparkles. Maybe see some gold this week, some recoated shocks next week and who the heck knows on the engine.

Last 88 was a 330 (4 mil). 363 was interesting. I had him do the LA sleeve and port the stocker till it finally cracked. Always after the low end power too. I love the PT mids, have em on my wife’s 4 mil stock cyl, very linear and pull from the bottom. They don’t support the higher HP though. Get yourself a serval or super serval and be forever spoiled! TRX would be preferential for dirt but sand begs for a bit more.

Hindsight the Laeger narrow frame banshee would have been cheaper. I’m darn near triple the original budget. No tricycles, did a Missile kit with one once. I’ve had so many TRX’s, usually built by Arlan. Last one I lost my shorts on was my “resto mod” 88. Stock appearing but modern power and suspension. Solid 70ish hp is nice but 90hp with a Shee is the sweet spot for me. No replacement for displacement. I’ll upload a photo to FB then share the URL here when at computer later.

Thanks, after 16 months of testing, tuning and shade tree re-engineering I finally have it to a point where I can put color on it and know it's correct. This is a aggressive dune machine. I ride dirt bikes so always in a turn and high flying would be my style. My family all has R's, my mother in law and wife ride Banshees. When in Rome. For decades I've gone between Banshees and R's either missing suspension/geometry or missing power. Now I'll have my cake and eat it too.

Neither. Cerokote, the stuff they use on guns. 1/10th thickness of powder and impervious to fuel.

photo test 2 (now I can't edit the one above or delete it) sorry just figuring this forum stuff out

testing photo: carb https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=10218014587691413&set=a.10218014578011171 that didn't work and now I can't seem to delete post

Final assembly is coming quick. All parts are at powder/cerakote, due back this week and hopefully my engine comes this month. I will post up in YFZ-Banshee category just to see if people like some of my ideas or not.

I’m not worried about $6.50/gal race fuel. It’s distance. Glamis and St Anthony you burn so much getting to the good stuff. Oregon, Utah and Michigan it’s not a problem. I think I’m going to keep as-cast. You guys pointed out some good threads and the DL as-cast actually has mild porting compared to CP cast. Mid 80’s hp is nothing to sneeze at when it’s getting the fuel economy. I am going to ditch the 10 pound heavier LSR +4 for a shorter aluminum one then ditch the hipers for less rotation weight. Stick a fork in it! This build has taken way too long.

Having both 421 Serval and Driveline though not identical builds I think the Serval is far more thirsty. I was wishing I got 28’s over 33’s but was worried about exactly what you experienced. Thanks for confirming! The driveline incredibly small boost ports seem odd and I can’t say I’m drinking the kool aid for the huge windows in piston skirt. Standard pistons should work but I don’t think lane would install them. So many great builders with different opinions.

Thank you for clarifying what I believe too but you have far more experience than me. Cam has built a couple engines for myself and the wife in the past and there is no builder I respect more. At the same time, he is thinking more efficient horse power and little change in economy with carbs being the much bigger factor. I'll likely talk through the driveline design with him, change what we believe should be improved then leave it closer to "as cast" but with some fundamental changes. Tank is yfz450 IMS 3.6 gallon. Pipes ... um ... kind of shear .... mostly one off, longer body hoping for more torque but very free flowing too. will share the 15+ month creation soon!
