Yeah I got the point and I know the process and the point of the modification !! I didn't post this as a damn debate on whether or not I should use a welded crank!! All I wanted was sum advice on motor assembly not the smug opinions of some conceited jerks on how I'm going to blow my motor up!!

Yeah its rough but happy wife happy life ya know! I have 3 other quads one of which we call hers ;-) but take into account she let my have the custom harley sportster and my lifted z71 tahoe she totally worth keeping around not to mention I'm an avid deer and turkey hunter and when I get time I fish which she loves so easy...well, EASIER to buy tackle lol this project on the other hand is fully outta my pocket and pretty much all the money is being generated by selling other toys and parts and crap I have laying around the shop so every penny counts(:

okay good to know but could you tell me if after welding it would it need to be trued do to distortion from heat or would it have to be balanced due to added weight? Keep in mind I'm only considering this more than likely I'll be just running a stock crank fir the time being otherwise and possibly adding built crank in the future if I get the funding and approval from the finance department (wife). ;-)

Sounds like valuable information could you tell me more about the shift shaft mod I certainly have the tools for that and know from experience with my 87 about the 2nd gear miss! Also could I get away with some solid tack welds with my mig, I dont own a tig welder :-/ YET I've seen some welded cranks and know that they're done pretty well when welded buy a pro with atih. I have a friend who is an excellent welder that could probably put some really nice beads on it but wouldn't it have to be balanced then?

heck yeah man these are the tips I'm talking about not trying to build a rocket ship or a dragster I just want to build a runner and I want to build it right thanks a lot on the explanation on the leak down test! see these are the things I'm talking about tips and tricks from experience motor builders on how to put it together right the first time I don't need opinions on parts people think that should use because on the budget I got I have to make do with some of the lower price components which I know will work by the fact that banshees have been built this way for like 30 years so they do work as long as you don't beat the motor to death and maintain it properly I greatly appreciate all the advice and all your submissions and I am looking forward to building this honey and makin her sing!! Thanks a ton you guys I will keep you updated

wow thanks a lot for the vote of confidence and I guess I'll just pass on any more advice from you if you can't keep a motor running without a fancy crank like that then you must not be much of a mechanic cuz they come from the factory like that and and then on all just blow up because they don't have welded crank if u know how to maintain motor you can keep it running

thanks a lot starwriter those are some excellent tips I am on a very tight budget though so that trued and welded crank is kind of out of the question for now and most of the parts were putting on are NOS how do you do a leak down test

Copy that on the v force reeds and I'll skip the boost I've heard that before.

Excellent this is the kinda advice I'm talking about thanx dave! I do have pipes to put on and do plan to add vitos dual stage reeds and a boost bottle later. The machine is on its original bore but had been freshened once so I'm assuming most stuff has minimal wear but I'll look into everything you mentioned for sure! I'll be starting to get ready for reassembly this weekend so I'll update you you on the stuff you talked about thanx again!
