  2. Sure looks like a banshee dogbone in the rear and too wide up front to be 250r geo. Good find. I'll try and do a little more research on it.

    DDQ, what are you guys looking to improve on? Any experience with the SLP pipes? Do you run the 2 into 1 for simplicity or are they inherently better for a trail/mx? Interested to see the results. Gusto, I take it you're running a set?

    JD's motor is pretty impressive as well. It's not going to matter on the track if it falls on it's face at 8500. Shit and get and everything up front is exactly what I'll be looking for.

    Solid suggestions. The torque comes on my 421 hard at about 7K right now. With different pipes, what's the soonest any of you have seen a 421 serval come on and make 40+tq When I sat with Cam on that build most of his dyno research was with drag pipes. Is there a serval out there with slp's? The twin to my motor that was built the following week is laegereliminator's and he's running PT's. Hoping to see that thing in August. I'm going to go through the dyno room in a few minutes and take a look at some of these motors.

    That KTM 300 motor is badass! Going with a banshee saddle the motor mounts will be for a banshee. Using the KTM motor would be like building a hybrid on top of a hybrid. If I was doing a pure 250r frame, I would seriously consider that powerplant.

    I like the idea of pt's on a setup like this because it puts the expansion chambers out of the way. I'm a big guy and most pipes still get me right above my boots if I'm really cornering aggressively. When I built my current setup and was looking at pipes I heard that the servals really didn't like the traditional mid range pipes. Guys thought if they paired some pt mids with a serval they would have this ridiculous torque monster and for reasons beyond my pay grade didn't pan out.

    That's what I was thinking but worry on a stock length or possible -1 arm it might be too much motor. I was thinking something in the 65 hp range would be plenty for mx.

    Current setup is my duner and it's tits on. This is going to be a completely new build frame up. Was just throwing out motors I've owned so people would have an idea for comparison and my experience.
  12. The bolt on should be fairly straight forward. Are you looking for recommendations for caster, camber, toe or just a starting point. I can give you some ranges depending on what kind of riding you are doing. I'd recommend getting a very compact digital angle finder for taking your measurements. Another thing about banshee frames is they are rarely true and you'll probably have a different number of turns out on each side on your ball joints or heims. Are they ball on the spindle end or heim? You can get very close to exact symmetry with fully adjustable aftermarket arms if you really work at it but don't beat yourself up too much. I spent a few hours on my last setup and got with in .2 degrees on all my settings and called it a day. Let me know if I can help.
  13. I'm in the infant stages of planning a complete mx build that will most likely be done in a Laeger or Lonestar chassis. Curious what all you trail and mx guys are running for motor and pipe combos I've had a stock cylinder unported with FMF's and T5's, ported stock cylinder with T5's, Stock cylinder 4mil with Shearers, and current setup on my duner is a 421 ported Serval with Shearers. I have dyno charts for most of the motors I've had so if you have graphs of yours, it would be cool to see for a comparison. This will be a long build so I'd like to get an idea of what potential engine and exhaust components I should keep an eye out for. Thanks.
  14. Reading that thread on THE358BANSH's frame build was a religious experience. This is the reason I've been kicking around going to night school and learning how to be a machinist. Not because I want to be a machinist, but so I can do shit like this in my free time. The MX air thing really seems to put the pucker in a lot of frame builders. The first time I went to Arlo's shop he was very hesitant to do my current frame because he heard from some guys that I jumped and had ripped the foot pegs out of a stock frame on a landing.

  17. When did you build yours? Erik had a lot of valuable info on building a laeger but it would be nice to hear more about the LSR outlaw route. Even in their hay day it doesn't sound like either of these two frames were heavily produced.
  18. I think that's good advice and I would probably ask questions like that as well to someone contemplating making a major investment to accomplish a goal. God made me to be a linebacker not an mx rider and for entertainment purposes and irony made me love mx racing. Since I was 15 I've had to revalve, respring and modify everything I've owned to get any kind of descent ride. Hell my dad even modified my big wheel when I was five because it was too small. I figured out 18 years ago that learning about suspension tuning was going to be the only way I would ever really enjoy this sport. Was fortunate that a few friends rode pro and was able to spend a lot of time in the pits talking shop with some very good suspension tuners. I'm the guy in the group that when people are talking about all the money they've dumped in their motor always asks how much they've spent on their shocks. If someone wants to drag, my reply is sure, let's go find the longest whoop section. You get the point. I'm concentrating on cornering because my settings feel very good in the technical features. The banshee has proven it can do just fine in a straight line. The AX/SX tracks I'm riding right now have 5 or 6 passes linked with 180 degree corners, some burmed and some flat and even off camber. If I'm losing .5 seconds a turn in a 15 lap moto, I'm not going to be close to competitive. The speed I can carry through those corners and versatility of line choice I have on my 450 is night and day from the banshee. Tiger Woods can probably play a pretty dam good round of golf with a set of clubs from Walmart but there becomes a point where the limitations of your equipment can really hold you back. Based on my experience riding a lot of different machines, having a banshee saddle with the relocated pegs that I make paired with better front and rear geometry genetics would give me the best ride. Anyway you slice it, if I want a track bike I'm going to be building a second banshee. Changing gearing, wheels, caster, camber, all my clickers, and preloads gets old in between sand and dirt trips. I've known about the laeger and Lonestar routes for 10+ years and am at a place where I can afford to actually consider the build. The point of this post was to gather info on possible services sponsors may offer outside the obvious two and hear from guys who have done this already and get insight from their experience. Laegereliminator spent a couple hours on the phone last night going over his build and that is greatly appreciated.
  19. I agree finding a complete setup would be the way to go. Finding a seller is going to be the challenge. I'll drop Camatv a message and see if he has an outlaw or a laeger he's looking to get rid of. Thanks for the lead Tyler. I know it's not going to be cheap but it would be a bike I'd keep as long as I can get my leg over it. Guys spend ungodly amounts of money on here to build something that goes 300' in a straight line. Building something you can competitively race on an MX/SX or arena cross track doesn't seem that crazy to me. DDQ, I have the +1+1 with a anti-vibe which makes it in reality about a +2.25 as well. I run the Wydham style MX bars on both machines. I would consider them a fairly high rise compared to most bends. I'm already pretty deep in suspension on both bikes. Banshee has three way adj. Elka's up fromt with +2+1 arms and my rear is a rebuildable OEM that has been respringed and revalved. There is no issue with jumping, whoops, or any of the straight approach elements. I can suck it up till I pop a vein in my forehead and that isn't going to help much in a 180 degree flat corner. Any sponsors other than Stellar that might be useful to talk with. Arlo, H.O.D. reinforced my current frame. I'll ask him as well but I don't see him wanting to take something like this on.
  20. I thought that was pretty low but I found a fairly recent post on another forum and a guy said just the frame with 250 geo set him back 23 and some change. I know the laeger roller is about 7,500.
  21. The LSR frame looks like it's about 2,300. In comparison, what's the average cost of the drag frames you guys run? That doesn't seem horrible. I guess I'm probably going to need that $50 back from my membership.
  22. Not following you Tyler. I wouldn't be buying a used YFZ or TRX. I have a fully setup MX YFZ and don't think there is anything more I can do to get it even remotely as comfortable as my banshee. The Laeger and Lonestar routes are the only solutions I know of. Just curious if anyone else had some other ideas. I can't shrink, so my only option is to build something that fits.
  23. I know this topic has been covered in other threads. I've used the search function. A lot of them are fairly old 2007, 2008 and most of them turn into a bunch of 10 paragraph posts from guys arguing about who's a bigger idiot. In addition, there seems like a lot more sponsors dealing with frame mods and manufacturing than when those posts were current. I have an 05 YFZ set up for dirt and a serval banshee set up for sand. Recently more and more of the tracks in my area have opened up their gates to quads for practice and racing. They just opened up a giant indoor arena track 5 minutes from my house that runs 7 days a week. Riding MX was the gateway drug that got me into this whole ATV addiction and I find myself wanting to get back into riding tracks. I'm almost 6'5" and both my machines have +1+1 stems, high rise mx bars, wider a arms, taller seats, and custom relocated foot pegs. With those mods, my banshee is the only sport ATV I've ever ridden that I actually felt comfortable and stable in the air. I don't think there is a whole lot more I can do to my YZF to eliminate the monkey humping a giant steel and plastic football feeling. I've taken the Shee out there but the frame geometry is a complete turd when it comes to cornering and has no chance of hanging with the modern 4 strokes. Doing a banshee frame with 250r or newer TRX or YFZ front suspension and rear link appears to be the only way I'm going to get something that feels comfortable and will also handle well enough to be competitive on the track. I know Lonestar and Laeger offer this setup but are there any sponsors doing this or any other ways to do a build like this. I'm going to talk to Laegereliminator about his setup but just curious if anyone else has some different or more current experience doing this. Thanks
