What is the advantage of narrowing up the rear end? Just to achieve the 'drag bike' look?

Why not run an 18? I've got a set of 18x9.50x8 Slicks that only weigh 12lbs mounted on .125 Douglas Wheels. Doesn't get much better than that. The less rotating weight the better, its not like you can't adjust your sprockets to compensate for different tire sizes
