  1. I have an 89 and just upgraded to the speedlinez. I have the older big brakes. If you want pics I can't them for you..........
  2. I ordered my stage 3 elkas last week. I called them and asked about what I should do when switching to a longer swinger in the future... He said the shock will only need the spring switched out. I weigh 180 with riding gear on. I have the stock swinger but just replaced all the bearings and axle bearings. Right now I'm installing the fireball arms and the speedlinez brake lines. Looking good I can't wait for the shocks.
  3. I'm about to order stage 3's for my 89 shee. I chose these because of what some of the memebers on here have said about them and because they are a great deal right now. I talked to elka last week and I will be going through them to get these. I still think its crazy spending 1700 for shocks though. I expect these to last a very long time. With the shocks I'm also rebuilding the entire front end with the fireball J-arm +2+1 kit.
  4. I also looked into getting a different swinger. With more trail riding I decided to keep it stock. I put in new bearings and will be adding some new elka stage 3 shocks. I have the Fireball J-arm kit. Should be night and day difference. They make swingers made for trail riding and are actually shorter than the stocker but have a totally different suspension geometry set up. It seems more go with the longer swing arm route though...
  5. I'm happy with fireballs service BTW. Good people there. I ended up getting the speedlinez for the banshee. They are 2 lines that join at the master cylinder with one long banjo bolt. Today I contacted Elka about the stage 3 kit. Can't wait for those. I haven't put anything together yet. Its killing me. I have just as much fun working on the quad as I do riding it. But nothing beats ringing her out on a long run back to the truck to end a weekend of riding. I'll have to update my sig once all said and done. Both machines have had some work done......
  6. I would clean the ends up on whats left on the mangled ones. Get two grade 8 nuts to fit those. Tighten the nuts against eachother so you can use a wrench to grab that to turn the stud. Soak the hell out of the studs with PB blaster and maybe tap the studs lightly to help get the PB down in the threads. Good luck. BTW the next time the head comes off my motor I will be using heli coil inserts. One of my studs stripped the aluminum threads in the cylinder when I was adjusting the torque after a break in. Soon as that needle on the wrench backed off I stopped, remained calm, counted to ten, put the tool down and proceeded to let out a few choice words... After looking at pic again, the one looks like you'll need to heat up the cylinder where stud is, use a vice grip and hope for the best. They shouldn't be that hard to get out.
  7. Hot rods.... pro its cheap.... con its made in taiwan. I have roughly 15 hours on a stroker I installed last summer. Don't know how much of a gain I got with that cause I had my stock cylinders ported by Farm and Sand Toys. I assume any gain was from that. But at least I have a new crank now...
  8. I highly recommend them. I saved a few hundred buying my j arm kit off Ebay through them. They are a big outfit. I do have one complaint but called the company and are doing everything they can to fix the problem, cover the cost of shipping, and are giving me the longer brake lines I need at cost.... saweet!
  9. How do I tell? I been waiting for this warmer weather to start working on it.
  10. thats what I did. Hoping not too sink too much into this quad. I'd rather use that money for going up riding. It gets expensive just to do that. Not just a few times but every weekend in the summer. I buy the bel ray by the box!
  11. Nice banshee. Good color scheme. What did you do for the brake lines? Did the stock ones reach? Looks like you routed them underneath the j arm. I did get the arms in today. I inspected each one and was impressed with the quality welds, paint job and how much stronger they look compared to the stockers. PLUS I can now change out my own ball joints!!!!! And they did come with the longer tie rods also powder coated. The arms came with new bushings installed. This set me back 400. I was able to get a deal on them.
  12. I purchased those arms. Glad to hear some info and someone who has this set up. Can't to see the pics.. I should be getting those in the mail sometime in March. Did you by any chance get to see the new and improved hill billy banshee?
  13. I went on the website and did not see the discount for the Elka shocks.
  14. just purchased the fireball racing J arm +2+1 set. Going to be putting these shocks on there. Can't wait for summer.....
  15. My 89 fronts don't leak and still work. Its the rear shock that has given me problems.
  16. Sure. Was out a couple times before the new motor. I need to replace my Skat Traks. I'm having trouble finding the Taller Haulers like I had. They were the 10 paddle.
  17. Okay that clears things up for me. Now I know I will need longer brake lines. Is that minor stuff I can get fairly easy?
  18. I've narrowed my search to this..... Fireball Racing +2+1 Jarm with the Elka Stage 3. Now being a wider Jarm/ a arm does this mean I need to order Long travel shocks? Seeing Elka has a good deal going right now I'd figure bite the bullet and get the J arm setup that I been looking at. Wish I could get the Elka long travel for rear too and I'd be a happy camper. May even do it if I can still get the LT rear shock but have to get the wishbone piece seperate. If any site sponsors have any info or would like to suggest something I would appreciate it.
  19. man o steele that is one bad ass banshee....
  20. good info. Probably stick with the jarm since its in good shape. I'm a weekend warrior that mostly rides trails. But the trails I ride are compareable to Bull Gap, or St. Helen.... Loose sand mixed with some hard pack and wide open trails made for speed. Well time to research some more.....
  21. Now that the motor has been rebuilt and has a little more pep, I want to replace the entire suspension setup. First I want to replace the shocks. Stage 3 elkas were my first choice. Seen some old hill climbing posts where one of you were running elkas, thats what sold me on those. I want to go wider but being a jarm some of you may say get an "a arm" frame. I see Fire ball racing has a +2+1 jarm kit. Anyone have any info on these? I seen Elka makes a extended travel rear shock setup. Seeing that this alone is somewhere in the 1600 range... it gets expensive quick. Or I keep what I have which is bone stock and just get the Elka stage 3 kit for all around. I trail ride mostly. Any advice? Any good deals out there right now?
  22. I been debating on just getting my shee on the ice. Would have to pull the carbs and fatten her up just to be safe. Tempting but just don't want to ruin my summer riding season by doing a teardown.
