  1. Well come to find out that the new ballasts and all will take ac or dc voltage as long as its in the corect voltage. ie 12 volts. and the slim kits have ballasts that look to be the size of a deck of cards. they already have capacitors wired in right before the ballast. i figured it would be pretty easy to wire in a little battery in a nice strong metal box under the seat or something. all i would have to do is get a transformer to convert to dc voltage to charge the battery correct? and where can you find an equivalent output HID at 900 lumens? these kits have 3000 lumen output at 6000k temp. Granted the housing wouldn't be best for the direction the light is broadcasted but for $50 more you can get a complete lens, housing, wiring, bulbs, and ballasts to make sure the light is right.
  2. okay for those of you with hids where did you get them? was it a kit or could it be done cheaper by building/buying seperate parts? can anyone do a small writeup of how they went about doing it? i had hids on my truck before i sold it and loved em. night riding with the banshee is too hard to have fun with the stock lights. what does teh stock system run now voltage wise? 12vac? thats a pain.....
  3. i did adjust the slides as best i could. got them to be as close to exact as i could see. who knows if anything else needs adjusted though. they are pretty dirty but i haven't been able to afford the carb sync tool and the rebuild kit or i would have completely disassembled the carbs and cleaned the crap out. seems like the airbox side of the carb isn't really that clean. kinda oily and dirt stuck in there. not a good seal in the air box? t the bike is still pretty good on the top end but either im getting used to the power or its not as strong as it was two weeks ago... wish i knew someone around here that knew these bikes so they could tell me if the thing is bogging or sluggish off the line....
  4. Well it was pretty much just the fouled spark plugs that were the cause. i do need to get the carbs tuned though because i think it should be making a lot more power than it does and the throttle response isn't as good now either. Since ihad the carb apart(well just the bowl off the left side) it idles high too. i didn't touch any other screws though so im not sure whats causing that..
  5. so i pulled the left side carb off this evening and tore into the fuel bowl. got the float off and then the needle. well i've never seen a needle with a rubber end on it but i guess ya learn something new everyday... well the end of the needle is cracked and could be pulled right off like you were pulling the little nubs off brand new tires... i haven't really checked anything else out yet as im waiting for my paycheck to get carb rebuild kits and new spark plugs. anything else i should replace thats cheap while i have it down?
  6. Okay thanks a lot that makes sense! It's pretty much so that when the piston starts coming back up it doesn't push out any of the intake air? Edit: okay well I had it partially right... lol
  7. im pretty well decided on original razrs for the rear. the fronts aren't too bad yet so ill take my time replacing those...
  8. New to performance two strokes and ihave no idea what the reeds are, what they do, and what mods people do to them. What do those mods improve?
  9. the previous owner told me they mixed it at 40:1 and i stayed between 32 and 40:1 and ended up fouling plugs. too much oil or would i been fine with the correct heat range plugs?
  10. well the coolant leak is too small to be able to see where its coming from for now. just a few drops and i couldn't see what was wet up above. where do you guys get your plugs? my local autozone has them for like 2.50 each and they are regular stock. i'll get the hotter plugs too. and should i pull the carbs off and tear em apart(at least the bowls) to clean em out?
  11. look for a 1999 to 2002 ford superduty 7.3l psd. probably one of the best stock trucks out there. with the money you have left over you can build it so that it does the job you are asking of it the best it can. heres a great website with some beautiful trucks and great reviews. you'll have to call them and talk to them since they dont have many trucks for sale right now but check back in a month and they'll have more. If i were to buy a diesel truck this is where i would get it from! www.handpickedtrucks.com
  12. well the plugs look fouled like i added too much oil the last time i mixed gas up. heres a pic of them. they are also BR9ES plugs should i switch to the BR8ES like what are recommended on here?
  13. well after my riding on monday i cant get my banshee to fire. not even try to start. what gives? before it would fire up instantly cold without the choke and idle perfect. what should i check first? i figured i would pull the spark plugs and see what those look like... also noticed a really small coolant leak monday while riding hard for 20 min in 2nd gear. but it would stop after a couple minutes of idling... oh and i think the carbs need cleaned because i have to turn the fuel off or else it will just keep running and drain onto the ground.... guessing some crap in the bowls or the floats are bad? i dont know anything about the carbs on it now so i guess ill assume they are stock...
  14. My last question is about the chain roller right on the stock swingarm. obviously the previous owner didn't worry too much about this as you can tell its been wearing on the swingarm itself. probably see how shiny the swingarm is in my pic above. what roller am i looking for or should i get a chain slider for it instead?
  15. y ai think ive decided to go with 20 razrs on the back and when i get some extra money razr 2s on the front.
  16. heres what my swingarm looks like, along with the crappy tires, and the stock swingarm. anything i need to replace on the stocker?
  17. well this is only what the guy i got it from said. said it was 410cc with some bottom end work. his family owner a powersports shop so i guess its possible. the boost bottle came with it. didn't think it would hurt much so probably gonna leave it. i have the stock arm but im not sure what a roundhouse style is....? i think its the stock carrier...? i think the tires hurt the most now cuz they are pretty worn down.... no sharp edges on any lug anymore...
  18. if i like how it runs with the original arm then yes ill be selling the +6 my mods are in my sig and i do mostly field riding and running around the county. got some circle tracks in the field that we race around too.
  19. i know right! lol mods are 410 cc bored, boost bottle, and t5 pipes. other than that im not sure cuz i bought it this way. def needs some tuning cuz i have no bottom end and i can tell it should run better than it is. so when i put the stock back on what should i replace as far as hardware and bushings? i know i need some chain rollers as though are gone now.
  20. So i need new tires bad cuz i cant hook until im in like 4th or 5th gear. my buddies 400ex is running all over me because of it! What do you guys suggest for a good all around tire? and what size? i'm gonna be field riding and running along the side of the road mostly on somwewhat steep slopes and right now i just slide down em everytime the powerband kicks.... Also he made a square track in the field yesterday that i went riding on with him and he was passing me. i'm sure i gotta get used to riding but i have a feeling the +6 swingarm was killing me on the turns...? should i throw the original back on for field and trail riding? Also i couldn't get the right gearing for that track as third didn't let me get into the powerband unless i clutched it and second ran out of revs. track was too short for shifting on straight aways... thanks guys
  21. it already has a boost bottle on it. i didnt buy it but does it hurt because i dont want to have to buy a stock one...
  22. what size bolt pattern does a stock banshee hub have? I am looking for some mud tires and paddle tires(for winter snow) and they are pretty cheap on ebay and come with rims too. but i wanna know what bolt pattern i need before i buy anything. what is the bolt pattern and can someone explain how its measured on quads? thanks guys!
  23. yea i have no idea i've never had a quad before and i have only had this one for 4 days now. haven't even gone riding with anyone else yet. we'll see though. harvest is coming and there will be many more places to ride. maybe the gearing will be better. Now is the timing plate really that easy to do? i downloaded and printed off the shop manual so i'm sure that will help a lot. And i am good at wrenching but with how easy things are to break on these(i'm used to diesel trucks) i dont want to end up costing myself a bunch of money....
  24. So i traded my truck for the banshee and the truck. banshee runs awesome and i never knew what you guys were talking about when you said it hit hard but wow i know now! LOL The problem is that i'd like a little more bottom end. timing plate adjustment? another thing is that i ride in open fields mostly and its soft ground. I dont get much of a chance to ride wide open sixth gear. should i change sprocket sizes to get a little less speed in each gear? seems like i would want to be running in sixth more often than i am. how many of you guys changed your sprocket sizes or gearing?
