I think it would be a huge mistake. The 2001-2002 years have major issues with carbs & there not cheap. If you want a dirtbike you can grow into I would recommend a 250 Two-stroke. You already know how to maintain two-stroke machines. The rebuild is less then half the cost of 4 stroke models. You WILL NOT be happy with the throttle response of that bike. Plus by the pictures you posted the bike was not properly maintained. Honestly it looks like it pretty worn out. You can find 250 two strokes in much better shape for $1,200 or LESS.. Don't make a mistake you WILL REGRET.....

Ok let me share my story. I've spent almost three weeks doing everything I could think of to solve the same issue. This past monday I unpluged my brake sensor plug ( right behind radiator) and the damn thing runs perfect Good luck.
