I think the air box design itself is less restrictive then you might assume. There is quite a bit more space around the filter itself compared to the other brand name aluminum units that you are referring to, also the inside of the air tract is very smooth with very few to no dead air space pockets in it. Also the tubes are 2 1/2" OD versus 2 1/4", with the intent of allowing more air flow. I am fairly certain the issue is with the length of the air tract itself causing flow issues. Again, I was following my builders instructions. After sitting on the sidelines reading and sifting through all of the info on here, both good and bad over the years, I finally decided to venture out and try things that my builder didn't endorse, but seemed to be consistent with quality results. My understanding from the Duncan boys is that most pod failures that they were seeing that weren't directly related to neglectful installations were/are the result of torn intake boots from the weight of the pods and carbs with no support like what the stock air box provides when it is secured properly. My visit to Cam's was the first time that I have had my bike on a dyno and the first time I have made big changes to my setup. Like you are pointing out, currently none. Keep in mind that I built my bike in 2008, only a couple of years after the last PDV race that Duncan raced a Banshee on, a race, specifically a pretty torturous endurance race, which they dominated for many years. I wanted to mimic what they were building and accomplishing.

JDS Customs phone number no more!

Tyler is right, that if you don't' get back to "most" people quickly they will move on, especially if there is no established relationship already. If there is already a relationship in place, the good customers will be patient for a reasonable amount of time. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk -

Email certainly works for small orders and especially ones with specific details. A business like mine requires contact by phone and in person. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk -
JDS Customs phone number no more!
LaegerEliminator replied to 87sheerips's topic in Sponsor Spotlight
I know for me regarding the phone, that can be a double edged sword. I must rely on my cell and I don't use my landline much. If I answered every phone call that I receive and properly reply to each one, I would literally spend my entire day talking to people and getting zero "work" done. The first work day after we completed the big job for the 4th of July, I made over 70 phone calls just trying to catch up on the worst of what I was behind on. I could have easily made 200+ to have covered everyone of them correctly. I am currently in the process of hiring an assistant manager to help me to take care of the stuff I can't and shouldn't have to so that I can better serve my clients and hopefully myself and family. As I said earlier, I have been following the advice of my original motor builder, Duncan to a "T". They have always remained adamant that pods are the single greatest cause of motor failure from their experience. It's hard to argue with someone who has the race winning history like they do. This air box setup, and my exhaust mods were the best scenario I could create in consideration of the Laeger chassis and different challenges that it creates. The performance difference in handling make it all worth while. On Cam's dyno I picked up about 4-5 HP when I switched to the pods with no other changes. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk

I like how JD seems to have level headed responses. I am fairly certain that he is doing his best to navigate all of the surprises that running your own business can throw at you while trying to keep his customers taken care of while also trying to maintain his own sanity. Until you have been in the trenches of owning your own show, very few can grasp how it goes at times. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk -

I am thinking the same as you Sprink. Let me be very clear, I think very highly of Loren and Leonard Duncan. They are passionate about what they do and they have acted with the utmost of professionalism with me. The wealth of knowledge that they have is amazing to me at times. I have zero regrets using them. Like both of you have said though, it seems as though they did not stay ahead of the competition in the Banshee department as the four stroke scene came into play, and why would they for business reasons. When I built my bike in '08 I thought Duncan was still the primary Banshee builder at that time. I had no clue as to how many other builders were out there, both good and bad. It wasn't till a Buddy said I needed to join BHQ at the end of my build, that I became aware of how large and broad the Banshee following really is. My first visit to Redline was to purposely make a few tweaks to my bike and to get a feel for Cam, as I had already given quite a bit of thought towards a Serval, I just didn't want to join the nuts swinging band without some direct experience first. Needless to say I like what I saw and felt comfortable with Cam quickly. Time will tell what my long term experience is with the new motor. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk

Alrighty. I spoke with Loren about this recently. He didn't seem very enthusiastic about this motor and thought I was better off sticking with my 403 build. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk

Do you have a link to where Loren made that comment? Or any other details on that build? Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk

I was thinking the same thing. This would have been my approach if I had to do my PT's over again. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk

Pretty certain after seeing this that CPI's won't work for me. Thanks!

^^^ EXACTLY !!! ^^^ Dave, from looking at your pics on the desktop now, it sure looks like the Snipers will clear my nerf bar spud with just a bit to spare. My concerns on the silencer/pipe connection area is that I saw a couple of pics of Snipers that "appeared" as though the connection in that area ran kinda low as the pipes meet the silencers and transition around the rear upright frame. Things are very different on my frame in that area.

Ha! That's probably what Rod kept saying to SKOOTER in his camper... Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk

Awesome! Thanks Dave!! Now can you or someone else give me a pic of where the pipes meet the silencers near your pods? I have concerns there as well with the Snipers. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk

I think it is probably a stronger design to have one solid piece in there. In the other frames that I have seen pics of, they have used the same install technique, but again, all of the others have been closer to the motor. The nerfs I used were built to fit a YFZ. That was the closest fit with the style if nerf that I wanted. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk
