I have broke way more Snap On and Mac sockets than I have Craftsman sockets, but that is because I have way more Snap On than Craftsman. Usually Snap On is made by Snap On while BluePoint is made by somebody else and Snap On buys it from them. As a professional mechanic it is nice to have the tool truck come to you EVERY week instead of driving to Sears. As a home mechanic it is easier to find a Sears store than a tool truck. So my professional box is mostly Snap On while the tools I have at home are mostly Craftsman. I bought a set of metric combo wrenches from Craftsman and they were made overseas- the first time I used them the open end spread. I took them in a couple at a time and they replaced them with American made ones.

At this point, I would do a compression test and a leakdown test. Due to the mismatched jets, and torn boots you may have some engine damage. What is your elevation? If you are near sea level, 270s might still be lean.I would also put the 27.5 pilots in and see if it helps. When you get it running, you may want to try the Moose needles, they might change the way the powerband comes on or how much power you have in the mid range.

RZ350 have a 64mm bore just like a Banshee and in fact the Wiseco catalog says the 513 series piston is the standard piston for both the Banshee and the RZ350. It should also fit the RD350LC and/or YPVS motors, HOWEVER I do not know about the RD350 air cooled motors.I just looked at Wiseco's site the aircooled motor is a 64mm bore with a 54mm stroke,BUT it takes a 393 series piston- I believe they have a different rod length and/or deck hieight, maybe squish angle is different.

Twist is way nicer than thumb, my thumb NEVER gets tired/sore on a ride. The brake lever NEEDS to be where it is reachable and comfortable. I usually set the brake where I want it and then mount the twist so it clears, nothing says that the housing has to sit above the brake lever.

oof's with or without silencers add more power?

Why do you want to make your bike so loud that it PISSES EVERYBODY OFF around it. Unless it is a drag only bike that runs at an unrestricted track, you are just giving the tree huggers another reason to kick us off of more land. The only reason a bike will be faster without silencers is if the ENTIRE motor package was designed to run that way, otherwise it is just more noise. -

Did the needle get damaged while it was out? -
Did Front hubs change at all?
bansheesandrider replied to 007banshee's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Front hubs are the same from 1987 to 2006(or later outside USA). -
I would stay with an OEM box- a used OEM is better than most new aftermarket units. I bought a Ricks Electrics box( not Ricky Stator) on a trip to St Anthonys because it was all I could get. It lasted for the 4 remaining days I was there. We came home and the bike sat for 2 months and then we went on a day trip, the bike would not start when I unloaded it. We towed it and got it going. As long as it was warm it would start but as the day progressed it got worse. After sitting around the campfire in the evening, it would not even tow start. Ricks did warranty it after a major hassle and I do carry it as a spare, but I am back to running OEM. The only non OEM box that I have not heard bad things about is the Dyna FS.

Was not an issue for me when I was there in 2008, I did not have one and they did not check. As I have stated before, a spark arrestor is required on ALL federal land. BUT, it is usually not enforced in sand dunes as there is nothing to burn.

If it is coming from the clutch cover area, you could have had the clip come off the kick idler gear and run through the primary drive roughing up some gear teeth and make them knock. Just my 2 cents.

anyone have info in shaving stock Carbs ?
bansheesandrider replied to thinkblue86's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
I have my stockers bored out to 28mm. It cost me $35 per carb and I have the advantage of being able to buy stock parts for them at any Yamaha dealer if I ever have problems while on a trip. I don't think that Keihins that cost $150 per carb would perform any better than my setup. -
BUT, there are inaccuracies on that list: the bike shown as a 1987 is actually a 1996- it has a silver frame instead of white, it has the factory foot guards that did not come out till 1992. Also, there has been an all blue banshee every year from 1999 to 2006, the seat solor and/or pattern varied over those years. And it does not show the 2006 Anniversary edition in yellow/black/white.

Bump I see a set on Mr Blings web site on the prices page. Does anybody know where you can get them?

All FEDERAL land in the USA irequires a spark arrestor, it is aForestry Service/Dept. of Agriculture rule. But, it is not enforced in many areas where there is no chance of a forest fire, ie: sand dunes. Spark arrestor are supposed to be on the bikes in the Oregon Dunes but it is not enforced. But that is one of the reasons I quit riding at Brown's Camp as it is enforced there in the forest.

ALL Banshees take the same light bulbs in the headlights! All years have the same output stators stock. You should be able to run 2 35 watt bulbs no problem, if the box says 75w on it then I think you have 2 75 watt bulbs, not 2 35 watt bulbs.

Then you have been lucky. I have seen them set up a test on the main trail from South Jetty to the open dunes, and check EVERYBODY that goes through. I have seen this also at Win. Bay and the Horsfall- Spinreel areas. I have even seen them use radar to enforce the 10 MPH speed limit on the access trail at Winchester Bay- my buddy got chased all the way back to camp and was given a ticket for going 35. I have seen them do courtesy sound checks and then write a ticket later if they catch you out on the dunes, so I only let them check me if I am heading home.

I did this to the silencers I had before I bought my old style CSFX silencers. I used aluminum pipe and bent a 90 on it. I then had a buddy who is a certified welder weld them onto the silencer end cap. I repacked them and put them together( my old packing was in good shape but I put new in anyway). It seemed to make a difference, I was never checked so it did what I was hoping it would do- keep me from getting a ticket. Eventually I bought the CSFX silencers, because several people told me that with those on the bike the sound check people would not even bother checking me, I did have the courtesy check done on those and it was 87db, but they did not seem much quieter than the ones I modified.

The first thing you do is fix anything and everything that is wrong with it. Then you should spend some money making it as reliable as possible- remember your bike can travel farther in 1/2 hour than you can walk ALL day. Weld the crank, billet impeller, pancake bearing, TORS elimination, PB rev limiter elimination, make sure your suspension is setup for your riding and in good shape. Some things to make it easier to ride- modded shift star or EZ shift kit, modded shift shaft, handlebars that fit you, better lighting, move the footpegs, the list goes on forever.

Using the key is a POOR way of changing your timing. You are far better off either modifying the stock timing plate or buying an aftermarket plate that will let you change your timing in a manner that you know how much you changed it.

Still looking for D arms, can't seem to get together with quadpro26 to make a deal. He seems to have dropped off the earth.

Stator are the same from 1987-1994 and from 1995-on. And the only difference between the two is the plug on the wires. You need to ohm the stator and if it checks OK I would go with the CDI box first. See if you can borrow one from a friend to see if it will run.

You have to connect the red/black and the black wires together!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Not and have it look good. You are going to have to live with the standard ugly black grille that comes from Maier or you are going to bite the bullet and buy one from JDS Customs. I have one of his on the wife's bike as she had to have a pink tank and radiator cover and I did not want to deal with the paint chipping and peeling. It looks good and we are both happy with it.

I tried it 1 time in my Banshee when my local dealer was out of the Klotz- it shifted like crap with it and I came home from a 1 day ride and drained it out. I put the Klotz back in and the shifting was 500% better. It is expensive and somewhat hard to find locally(for me) so now I just add 2-3 bottles to my order every time I order from RMATV, that way I have plenty on hand.
