Nope, 93 octane, 140psi compression, 40:1 klotz R50. That may be, but I can tell you it's not lean. I got 4 years out of my last top end so I'm not concerned.

The jets might be a little smaller than "normal" but they don't seem alarmingly small to me. I did numerous plug chops to verify. It might be a 160, but I know its right around there. Hard to remember exactly after changing jets and needle setting 5 or 6 times. Bear in mind, I'm running a PJ, I don't know what you're used to tuning. The couple air strykers I've jetted also tend to like small jets. That's jetted for ~2500ft. Next week I'll be at ~1000ft so I'll be rejetting agian. I can't comment on the bottom end difference it made on mine. The only time I rode mine with dual carbs was when it was still the previous owners and was a long swinger ice drag bike with OOF's, 33pwk's, methanol, 18cc domes, and drag gearing. The only reason I went with a single was becuase the bike didn't come with carbs and I had a 34pj and some metal laying around. So total cost was $65 for the carb boot and custom cable compard to ~$200 for a new pair of carbs. Besides, being a broke college student at the time, any money saved meant more beer money...

While it may not be totally "ideal" for your setup, try it with one of the 35pwk's you have. You might be pleasantly surprised. If you don't like it, you can always go back as you said. I'm sure it's even less theoretically ideal for my setup as the motor was originally built for an ice drag bike. But, it runs well enough for me and surprises everyone who rides it. Since I'm usually in a different location or season every time I ride, it's so nice to be able to rejet in under 2 mins. Biggest thing is getting the needle selection right though. I'm running an EEJ, 4th clip, 155 main, and 35 pilot, 2.5 turns out on the airscrew with my 34pj. If it's just a play bike and you're not after every last 1/10th hp you can get at 10+K, the pro's might outweigh the cons. Since I don't live on a dyno, they do for me.

The next time I have the clutch cover off I'll snap some. Was in a "get it done" mode at midnight on sunday to have it ready for my gaskets coming in this morning. Somewhere in the middle of the 6 pack the thought of taking photo's got sidetracked... It's all back together and running around the yard now. So far so good. I'll pull the cover off and basket out for a good wear inspection when I get back from my 1 1/2 week riding trip/vacation. Should be a good 50+ hours of hard riding to see if it holds.
-
I totally agree also. That's why all the rivets were drilled out and replaced with countersunk head screws, self locking nuts, and red loctite. About 3 hours of work but should be better than the rivets.

I run ATF for oil and it gets changed after every couple of rides. No negligence there. The oil wasn't even that dirty when I drained it out when this happened, just full of metal haha. The amount of AL shavings that were in the tranny when I split it was plain silly . Here's a pic of the Barnett Upon initial inspection, it's definitely much heavier than the boss basket. Everything is thicker and all edges and corners are nicely radiused. Specifically where the fingers meet the basket. Barnett also states right on the package that it's made from 2024 aluminum. As soon as my clutch cover gasket and water pump drive gear get here, it'll be back on the trails.

I was disappointed and surprised to see this myself as I had never heard of anything bad about their baskets before hand. The grooves really get me too. It's not the "saw teeth" my stocker had, but for 15 hours of real riding, it's very perplexing . As Firehead said, it seems like either the alloy is too soft or the anodizing wasn't correct. What are other billet baskets? 7075, 6061? The calling part is my biggest gripe. They've never once answered their phone when I called either. Maybe it's just me, but I find that a very odd for a decently sized business. In that rare occasion that I don't answer, I call customers back usually within 30 mins; a couple hours at absolute most. I wish I could tell you what dealer the basket came from. My friend bought it for his banshee but he totaled the shee before he put it in. So I bought it off him still in the wrapper. In theory, with the stainless plates on the fingers, the Barnett basket should last forever. As long as I don't rip any more fingers off anyway haha. The basket technically was in there for about 1.5 years but it sat at my cabin for over a year since my house at that time didn't have a garage. When I finally did bring it from Gaylord down to Lima this spring, my girlfriend and I putted around on it in the yard a few times, and then the riding trip a couple weeks ago. So yeah, maybe 30-35 hours tops on that thing...
-
Hard to say. I hope for your sake though. Hell, the stock basket took 4 years of ice drag racing with the same port work and oof drag pipes when the previous owner had it. I only had to replace it becuase it was grooved so bad the clutch wouldn't release. To my great surprise, Boss finally called me back today and offered to give me a decent deal on a new basket. When I told them I had already ordered a new once since they took so long getting back to me, they offered to give me a decent discount on any of their products. So I guess I'll be upgrading the radiator later this summer as it's the only thing they sell that's of use to me.

Yeah, it's pretty gay all right. The grooves in the fingers are probably somewhere between .030" to .040" deep. Rather insane for ~15 hours of real riding if you ask me. They've had two weeks to make it right, and haven't made an effort. I don't expect them to do anything at this point. I own a small welding/fab shop and customer care is rule #1. If someone calls me up with a problem, you better believe that they are called back asap and the problem fixed. I considered the magnum but after seeing how bad this aluminum basket grooved after very little riding, I figured I'd try something different than the norm. Since this was unplanned in the monthly budget, I prowled flea bay first and managed to score a Barnett billet basket for $148 shipped  . I'll write of a review of it after a couple weeks of riding.

Two week ago at Wellsville, Ohio, I had my motor lock up on my climbing a moderately sized hill. I pulled it back to camp and started pulling it apart. Found that 2 ears were ripped off the basket and are what caused the bind against the bottom of the clutch cover. Three others are cracked more than halfway and ready to fly off also. The basket is also heavily grooved for only having 10 hours of hard riding on it. I attempted to reach Boss about the matter since there was less than 30 hours on this basket (and most of which were putting around my 1.5 acre yard teaching my girlfriend to drive). After 2 or 3 left messages, they finally called me back and told them to send pictures because they didn't believe what I did was possible with just a ported and piped motor. So I sent pictures, heard nothing for a couple days, called back 2 or 3 more times and left messages since they have never answer thier phone, got a call back the next day with the excuse that they haven't had time to look at the pics yet, wait a few more days, call back and leave 2 more messages, and now haven't heard anything in a week. Every time I talked to them, I mentioned that I was going on a riding trip very soon and just needed to know if they going to replace it, give me a deal a new one from them, or not do anything at all. Was never answered, best I got a was a "We'll see what we can do". I'm going on another riding trip this coming weekend so I had to order a new basket from another company. Definitly not cool when the pocketbook was not planning on it. I'll post pics when I upload them later this evening.

Steves banshee - Yeah, it runs pretty good I suppose. I'm really schocked myself at how it runs. It's never ran like it does now in the 6 years I've had it. I hear you about the trails in MI sucking. My family has a cabin between gaylord and lewiston in the middle of the crapo creek trail system. Looking at the map, it's about the last one left. I've been riding it since I was a kid and am dreading the day they start cutting the routes down. I'll be up there the whole week before and the weekend of 4th of july. Give me a shout if you'll be up there.

NN2 is spot on. The top end loss that's always talked about has been dyno proved to exist but seems to vary somewhat from setup to setup. With my highly scientific butt dyno, I couldn't feel any top end loss when I switched to the single from the stockers. Going from dual 30's to a single might be a slightly different story though. Search for Snopckzi's (i'm sure I butchered the spelling) thread dyno testing singles vs duals. Very neat read. Personally I run a single with drag port and love it. For all of the benefits I'll give up 3hp on the very top end. It's making enough power that I ripped half the ears off of my billet clutch basket the other day.

The official Big Rock Banshee HQ trip
Whitbread replied to JasonsBanshee's topic in Riding and Events Forum
Hmmmm, only 172 miiles away. Only major thing holding me back is my shattered billet clutch basket. Unbreakable my ass.... If finances permit, and I can get a new basket in time, I'll be there. Going out to wellsville last weekend really got the riding bug goin again  . -
Your buddies running PT high revs knew what's good. They're my favorite all around pipe. They're about the only ones you can change plugs on a hot engine with and ride with shorts on. I'm running mine with pro circuit spark arrested silencers. The PC silencers needed about 3" worth of 1" stainless tubing to make them meet up with the PT pipes. Something you'll probably have to do too if you try to use FMF silencers with the PC pipes. I question thier 96db rating though, they're rather loud at full song. I hear you on what you want. That was my goal too which is why I'm running a somehwat strange setup. I just got back from a 5 day riding trip to Wellsville, Ohio (which is a 3000 acre moutain terrain off road park). I finally had an oppertunity to really ride my banshee since I got all the bugs worked out of her and rebuilt the top end. And holy crap  . With the mods listed in my sig, I had excessive amounts of power for any of the hillclimbs and drag races but was able to putt around on the trails easily enough. Everyone in the 15 person group I went with rode it and couldn't believe how mild mannered it was on the trails until you pushed the thumb. On pavement, I had the chance to drag against a Ron Wood stage 2 ds650, ported and cammed yfz450, CT built honda 330R, and a trail ported and piped banshee. We did best of 3 races with each and I beat all of them. The DS650 was a really close race and always took the holeshot but it fell off badly around 60-70mph where I was able to keep pulling hard.

BansheeHQ trip to Haspin Acres May 16, 17th CONFORMATION THREAD!
Whitbread replied to run's topic in Riding and Events Forum
D'oh! I need to check this section out more often. I only live 2 hours from haspin. Oh well, next time. Glad to hear you're ok Crash471; my buddy was out there last weekend and watched the crash that killed the one person. I just got back this evening from a 4 day trip out to Wellsville, OH. Totally bad ass place. I managed to shatter my billet clutch basket yesterday evening though... -

pro circuit or pt hi revs for the dunes
Whitbread replied to SLORYDER's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
Between those two pipes, Pt's no question. They're my favorite for a non dedicated drag bike by far. A nice side benefit is that you can actually change plugs with them on without burning yourself. -
No problem at all! Just glad to help out a fellow banshee rider who likes something different  . Please follow up on how the pt's run compared to the rockets. I'm very curious as those are one of the pipes I wanted to try but never had a chance.

They'll definitely clear and you'll love them. By far my favorite set of pipes that I've tried. I'll snap some pics tomorrow and post them up for you. There's tons of room over there. Btw, you have my dream banshee. Way cool man. The only thing I could possibly think to add is an efi setup. That would make the ultimate reliable, retardedly fast, all around bike.

do pt mids make good desert pipes?
Whitbread replied to banshee#44's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
Go with the high revs and never look back. Definitely my favorite pipe I've tried on the banshee by far. -
I ran them for a couple years and I though they were OK. That is until I picked up a set of PT high revs and holy crap. I never realized how sleepy the motor was. Maybe its just my motor, but the high revs have a MUCH stronger low-mid range than the gnarly's ever did. Throttle response also picked way up. I do mostly trail riding and absolutely love them. The power hit is much smoother with an almost silly top end pull. I'd also take a good look at a set of PT mids, they're supposed to be the pipe all other low end pipes are judged against.
