  1. I guess I'm the minority here.... I like V paddles a lot more than the straight paddles overall. I'm more of a duner than dragger (80/20) so for me, I'm all over the Sand Skate II's. I have a set of brand new 21x12x8 8 paddle haulers but haven't even used them but once since I bought them from RMATV last year. I'm gonna tell you to qualify yourself to determine your tire/rim. If you primairly drag, get tires on a 8 inch rim....preferably a set of straight paddle haulers. If you are more of a duner, you will immensely appreciate a set of V paddles on 10 inch rims. I have both but if I could only have one set of tires, they would be V paddles on 10" rims. The haulers SUCK for duning compared to my SKII's. You can dune on haulers, but it's only half as fun!! Besides, it's fun to smoke quads running haulers when you are sporting V paddles... CU in Glamis, Jay From SanD.
  2. I know They are only 12bux at the shop but if you have a set you need to get rid of...you can off 'em to me for less!! How's that for a deal?? I'll order a set next week if no one wants to dump theirs... Sweet!! Jay from SanD.
  3. Here is the contact info for the San Diego Distributor for VP Racing Fuels. El Cajon is on the way to the desert and is pretty much right next to the freeway....maybe 20 miles east of the airport you'll land at. You take 8 East to the des... http://www.google.com/maps?q=145+Vernon+Wa...ap&ct=title You can also have them deliver it to my house if you need that sort of service...I'm 5 miles north of the 8. I have a garage and you could pick your fuel up any time!! Let me know!! El Cajon - - The SoCo Group Inc. (619) 440-8811 daldrich@socogroup.com For additional SoCo Group locations, visit: http://www.socogroup.com/
  4. What is the next leaner needle from the CGL?
  5. Synthetic oil and conventional oil usually mix at different ratios. Typical mixing ratio is 32 to 1. That's 32 parts fuel to 1 part oil. That means 4 ounces of oil per gallon of fuel. Use good 2 stroke oil for premix. Secondly, you can't just bore a banshee to a 450. Impossible. You would have to have 9mm bigger bore to get that displacement. Welcome to the HQ!! Jay from SanD.
  6. I like the 3rd one...or at least that style. Maybe you could insert 3 photos showing Dirt, Duning, and Dragging. Maybe superimpose the words over Yamaha's 3 tuning fork logo. The dirt hill climb photo is cool, an asphalt dragger shot would be sweet, as would some type of sand shot. Looks good bro. Jay from SanD.
  7. No question.....the Fatty's. The T6's are for stock motors only. A lot of people badmouth the FMF's but I have them and prefer them for my type of riding. Wide powerband (comparatively) and you don't have to rev it to the absolute max to catch the next 4th gear...like some of the others with a narrower powerband. They fit great, great build quality, and are tucked in real well. I've tried CPI's, T5's...I kept the FMF's. Your results may vary... Hope that helps....
  8. Here is the chart I was looking for referencing clip position between different needles. http://www.keihin-us.com/am/_media/pdf/pwk-pj_jetneedles.pdf If I had a set of CGL's I'd give 'em a try...but I bought a set of BGL's. Anyone have a pair of CGL's laying around??
  9. Just got an email...they extended the cutoff date through 12/22. Just put a W in front of the code #. W2501, W2502, W2503,W2504 for the same discount rate as the original post.
  10. Is the BEL the next step leaner after the CGL? I was thinking that since I'm on clip position #1 on my CEL, I'd want to jump 2 steps. Someone told me that 1 needle jump = 3 clip positions. Maybe BS though...
  11. Ocotillo Wells is awesome if you are riding a dirt bike. I ride my YZ250 out there all the time. I'll NEVER ride my sand suspension quad out there, but if you have stock suspension you would be OK though. That's the terrain it's made for. Well, maybe I shouldn't say never... Park along Pole Line Road for a pretty good riding area. Turn North off the main road and follow the road fork to the left...near the rest rooms. The Mud Hills West of Pole Line on the south side of the road are great too. I'm not a fan of Superstition...if you are gonna go that far, just drive the extra 30 minutes to Glamis!!!
  12. So my Banshee jetting is too fat (rich) at 1/4-3/4 throttle position. The tech document from Keihin isn't exactly straight forward to me...maybe someone can help me decipher the info. I don't need another piston like the one in my avatar. 33mm PWK's on a dune port 4 mil. Glamis use only. I'm running OK on my main. A 150 was too lean at night but the 152 is good at 300'ASL. Can't remember if I'm running a 48 or 45 pilot. Needle is a CEL with clip on #1 position (top/leanest) and my pipes spit oil and the plugs are black. From Sudco/Keihin: http://www.sudco.com/vol33/135-136.pdf Looking at this graph right side it seems the direction I need to follow is up...the direction for leaning out my problem area. The thing is, the left side of the same page shows lean = down...opposite the info on the right side of the page!! Since I'm at the #1 clip position on a CEL, shouldn't I get a BGL needle and try that?? for your help... Jay from SanD.
  13. I was gonna go on the 12th too, but the weather report called for 45MPH gusts on Saturday. Decided to cancel...now I won't be out there until New Years!!
  14. I saw him over Halloween...friggin funny!! I was wondering where you guys were gonna camp.I'll either try to camp by all 'yall or camp at Gecko Loop. Figuring on gettin out either Wed or Thursday. Are the trucker transporters gonna block out an area for BHQ'ers to camp? I don't need that much room..gotta small trailer and 28"MoHo!! Glamis Map for you tourists... http://www.blm.gov/pgdata/etc/medialib/blm...x11closures.pdf
  15. The last U.S. RD350 was 1975. '76-'79 were RD400's. I had one of the purple RD350's....1974. Plus a '76 and '78 RD as well. Sold my RZ's a few years ago and the RG500 in '98. Oh yea, can't forget that '75 H2, triple I had in high school.... Traded it for a '70 Roadrunner. Nice looking bike!!
  16. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-bans...1QQcmdZViewItem No reserve auction...$75.00 so far!!
  17. I'm one of those "crotch rocket" guys.... I use the Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5w40 in everything. ZX10r Kawi, Banshee, Blaster, RV, Toyota p/u, SE-r. More than you need to know... http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/Consumables.html
  18. I went back to my Fatty's...and have no regrets. Go figure, huh??
  19. I just finished smoking a dozen 4fiddys up Olds Saturday night, parked, and saw my Banshee pissing oil out of the tube next to the radiator hose...near the water pump. I couldn't really troubleshoot on the hill under a sliver of moonlight, so I took the "ride of shame" (towed back to camp). Rode the blaster on Sunday so I actually didn't troubleshoot the motor 'till yesterday after talking to some of the guys in chat Sunday night.. I didn't know there were 2 vent tubes that are supposed to be connected together...mine weren't. Long story short...the rear vent tube plugged with sand. Heat/expansion caused pressure to blow oil out of that front vent...which was turned down venting to the ground. I had a nice puddle of oil going there!! Radiator was still full so I'm not gonna have to rebuild it....sweet. So thanks to everyone for info I couldn't find in my Original Yamaha Factory Manual. So I'm ready to ride again!!! Thinking the 12-14th at Buttercup....
  20. Hell yea you can already see it...just look at the California Green Sticker Program. The funds generated from this program were supposed to be used to procure riding areas and directly benefit OHV'ers. The reality of it is the fees are now 10times greater now than when this program began and they hand over something like 2/5ths of the cash to the hippie tree huggers who's agenda is to close our riding areas!!!!! Plus, you have to purchase a "ISDRA Desert Pass" for $120.00...another tax without representation...that ultimately pays for non-essential services and additional gen fund allowances. Screw this...I blame EVERYTHING on either Illegal Aliens or Religion. Somehow, somewhere this makes sense to someone...
  21. So how many gallons of fuel did you go through? You had an earlier post trying to estimate your fuel use.....so, what was your MPG?? Epic looking trip bro...
  22. I agree with you....I'm not a fan of the large tail lights either. Head lights, now that's a different matter!! Thanks for the props. I didn't notice the crappy glue job the camera picked up but I cleaned it up. Your setup looks great too. Confidence is high in that if my local auto parts store had those in stock one would be mounted on my quad....
  23. I'd recommend a set of Sand Skate II's. They are an awesome duning tire and they work pretty good for occasional dragging. With your basically stock quad, you will appreciate the duning qualities of the SKII's over a straight cup style tire.
  24. You know those '70's tail lights are Ugly. Not to mention, they draw something like 5 watts. Go to the trailer parts section at Walmart and grab the smallest (they have 3 different sizes) LED side marker they have. The one I used was $6.97, has 2 mounting holes...one on each side and 2 LEDs. I cut off the mounting tabs from each side, leaving a waterproof 2 LED red housing that measures 1" x 5/8" after I slimmed it down. Hotglued it to the CDI and it's friggin perfect!! Really bright and it draws 0.3 watts!! It cleaned up the back end really well and it's so far up underneath, you don't even see it until it's on!! For a finishing touch, I blacked out the top, bottom, and sides so it only projects to the rear. Check it. It's way brighter than my POS camera picks up. I'd say it's brighter than stock.
  25. This is the second great idea you've come up with to seize a 2-stroke motor. If you pressurize an intake tract in a carburetor, you MUST pressurize the float bowl as well to equalize the pressure or fuel cannot be drawn by the venturi. An unequalized carb would actually push air down through the main jet orifice into the float bowl. No fuel, no oil>>>BOOM!! Also, the output of the fan would have to be variable to meet the draw demand of the motor or it would have a greater effect at idle v.s. WOT.. But then again, you are only talking about a fraction of 1 PSI, so none of this actually really matters. I'd think the restriction of the fan itself would be detrimental as would the interrupted airflow and inherent turbulence it's presence would create. The mass of the central core of the fan blade/motor assembly would reduce the size of the intake pathway by 40% easily. It would make a nice plug though..... I'm sure this is just another joke.....or should be!! Welcome to the HQ!!
