I covered the air gap earlier in the thread. Tedder hit the nail on the head or more properly MTC did! You need a minimum air gap for the clutch & of course there's a maximum. IMO, for tuning purposes there's no reason to fuck with it. Unless it's causing problems like MTC somewhat explained. Now, someone mentioned reaction times associated with air gap. In our testing, changing the clutch pack height can help to quicken or slow the quads reaction time. While changing the clutch pack height changes the air gap. It's the change in pack height giving the quicker/slower reaction. Here's an example of what we do. We use a thicker than stock clutch pack height for .400 pro tree racing. For full tree we use a stock clutch pack height. For the air gap settings with the 2 different clutch pack heights. We machine different thickness pressure plates to keep the air gap the same.

Stock is supposed to be 3mm or 0.118 we always measure them new. We very rarely have any that wear below 0.117 before throwing away. Most of the reasons for trashing them has nothing to do with the wear of the friction/fibers. It has more to do with the condition of the friction/fibers. We can generally get max performance out of the fibers for around 100 heads-up runs. That's any type of run 300', 1/8 or 1/4 mile. The next 100 runs we consider them for bracket/index racing. They have lost some of there performance, but are still consistent to use. We have tested them over 200 runs, but that's when they start breaking. The above examples are from a well inspected/maintained clutch program.

Thanks! I took over 1st place in the points for the 3rd time this year. This time I have a 4 rnd. lead over 2nd & a 6 rnd. lead over 3rd. It has been 1 rnd. or less between 1st - 4th most of the year. I have 3 more races to win or lose the Championship. I must say, this has been the tightest points battle I've been in to date.

Official Call Out For Tedder Or Anyone Else!

This thread can R.I.P. To bad no one wanted to come out & race the old man. I can somewhat understand why my cross dressing buddy (Tedder) didn't want to race. He said his lace panties would get all twisted up when I beat him & chap his junk. As for O.G., never expected him to even try & back his diarrhea spewing keyboard up. -
The Old Man wins again! Until last night, only 2 of us in the class could claim 2 wins. Last night, I changed that with the only one to have 3 wins. I only post these because it pisses off RadarRacing. LOL! I wish I could say Justin was having a great year with the quad. The quad has been plagued with problems. Probably because my focus has been on the race car. He's setting in 3rd place in the points, but a Championship is out of the question.

Here's a GoPro camera vid on the 535. The other quad is our Secret Weapon ridden by a friend in the left lane. https://www.facebook.com/justin.king.752/videos/976499585717238/

Official Call Out For Tedder Or Anyone Else!

The June 27 deadline is fast approaching. I thought for sure O.G. would at least talk shit on the callout, but we know he never backs anything up! I even sent the yellow back chicken shit a PM on 27 May. He doesn't even have the balls to read it. As for the other 2, non shit talker's. I barely have enough quad energy to make the remainder of the year. No more quad trips left in this old man! -
Matt takes 2nd place again on the Secret Weapon, Justin & I take early exits out. Still a great weekend!

Hey Sprinkle's get it right, I have a bigger basket to fit my trophies, cash & depends! Old Man racing FTW, if certain BHQ member's don't like it. Come try & show me how it's done. I'll take anybody's lunch money & the win from them or have fun trying.
-
Thanks Guys! I was really happy to have a Father & Son victory at the same day/race. My win was just icing on the cake after Justin had won. The last thing to do on my bucket list is for us both to win Championships in the same year! Heck, I'm giving everything I have to get Justin his 1st Championship! As for the bike it was wounded yesterday. We lost a stinger/silencer & ran it that way for the win. We have to race it that way today also. It is only being ran to half track & we coast the rest of the way. We have our old 7mm pipes in Phoenix that we may put on or have these welded. Now, it was pretty cool having our 2 Banshee's take 1st & 2nd place in the motorcycle class. Needless to say, the motorcycle guy's were pretty pissed. The secret weapon served well to a good family friend. The kid has never drag raced before. He went 13.95 @ 90+ mph on his 1st pass & got faster. Then he gets 2nd place to Justin. Congrats Matt, job well done!

Two qauds in the motorcycle final today. Justin's wins with broken fast qaud & secret weapon takes 2nd. Then the old man wins with the hoopty Camaro. It's nice to win on the same day as my Son.

Official Call Out For Tedder Or Anyone Else!

Well, how did that Ice Racing pan out for you? You must have been in Stealth mode! Here's your chance! While this new motor is not in the 9 sec range yet. It's coming to your backyard if you or the 2 other's want to come out & test me. I'm plenty rusty with the few runs I have made & only going to make a handful of runs before Labor Day. I'll give you a good race, but I'm far from being on top of my game. Looking for your "BACK IT UP!!" -
For asphalt we only have experience with Keihins, but nothing wrong with the other's. It's more of a personal preference. We started with 35's, don't waste your time that small. ET/mph wise the 39-41s is the way to go & make a big difference over the 35s. I wouldn't get to hung up on running Alky. We started on Race gas, switched to Alky, then went back to Race gas. With the right Race gas, you can be just as fast as Alky. Our 1st set-up was an 7mm, 417cc stock cylinder. Then bored it to 68mm, 443cc. We then went to the 7mm Cub cylinders.

Thank god no, LOL! I had a nice 4 day fishing trip, nice to get out of the city. I have race vehicle maintenance to start tomorrow & into next weekend. We are going to start racing the other quad also. So, with 3 race vehicle & I'm staying pretty busy. The next testing is June 5th with #7 & # 8 points races on June 6 & 7.

I figured if I ever had to break in another set. I would use an old used up set of frictions & do it in the bike. I wouldn't know of any better way of doing it. Maybe most of our problem is we run so much slip. It might be just fine for what you are doing.
-
No link, they removed it for some reason. I have a well used hard copy. I don't have time to post it up right now.
-
What fuel are you using? Our plug chops are grey using leaded race fuel. I have a VP fuels tuning guide that states that's the proper color for their fuel.
-
I like to use both the cryo'd steel & aluminum. The thing I found about the Barnett's was the coating smeared & fucked up the frictions when they were new. Once broken in, I don't have a problem with them. Are they worth the money, heck I don't know. I do know they last a long time. That coating is still on them damn plates. You might try calling them on the CF frictions, they should sell you just the frictions.
-
I don't have enough runs with the spring loaded basket to base an opinion on it. Hands down, I'll take the Barnett Basket over anything else out there. The stainless steel inserts prevent the grooving in the basket.
-
I was going to test the quad tonight, but decided to race it in points tomorrow & maybe Sun. The T&T was $35 & to race is $40. Justin is on vacation & not racing. So, maybe I can take some of his competitor's out this weekend. Plus, get the testing done on the Multi-stage set-up. I will also be racing the Camaro, racing 2 classes should keep me busy.

The boys set it up with spare parts on hand. We normally run a Barnett basket with Barnett or Hinson cushions.
