  1. You getting in any asphalt time in this year? Some quads from out of state are coming to race at Ubly on Labor Day weekend.
  2. You are making it harder than what it is! I know one that uses data logging & I chose not too. It's not a guess; timers, log books, video, hearing & the butt dyno. All equate to low 60' times when done with or without data logging. X2, was you drinking early? LOL!
  3. VP has M1, M3 & M5, they are listed towards the end of the page below. http://www.vpracingfuels.com/master-fuels-table
  4. The Secret Weapon is not so secret anymore. The competition has finally adjusted to it pretty good! Last night Justin got 2nd place & should be 2nd in points. It was race #10 of the twelve race series. The last two races will be the end of Aug. & 1st weekend of Sept. It's now shaping up to be a 4 way battle for the championship.
  5. We run your same basic combination using Toomey's guidelines. Our cool head has 22cc domes & run 280 mains & 27.5 pilots. Our base altitude is 2300' & our Density altitude is 5000' - 7000'. We run 1/4 mile asphalt with this set-up & have been 92 mph with this tune-up. It's hard to go wrong with Toomey's T5 recommended tune-up. http://www.toomey.com/index.php?option=com_phocadownload&view=category&id=1&Itemid=10
  6. The basic theory is the basket driven one follows engine rpm. The hub driven follows rear wheel speed. There's more to it than that, but copying ShanYEwest. "Thats about as detailed as i'm going to get on a keyboard.."
  7. I'm pretty sure the multi-stage started hub driven. Then it progressed to basket driven, but what do I know. They both provide a true multi-stage lock-up. The basics/principles are the same, but the set-ups are different. This is a hub driven lock-up. This is a basket driven lock-up. A good set-up standard lock-up can provide great dividends when properly set-up. It also provides a good foundation for basic clutch tuning. In the majority of set-ups the multi-stage will give you more tuning options & quicker 60's/ET!
  8. How are you working that one. Sight seeing in between race weekends.
  9. Just out of curiosity is Ron making this race?
  10. I will let you know when the time gets closer on the Wed. We are running Ubly on Fri., Sat. & Sun. Labor Day Weekend.
  11. We have points races 8 & 9 coming this weekend. Justin is in 2nd place one round out of 1st, but 3rd place one round behind. This is shaping up to be a 3 way battle for the championship. Here's our quickest 60' & ET so far.
  12. I'm planning on making a few runs at Milan the Wed. before or after Labor Day Weekend. Come on over & say hello.
  13. I think Justin ended up in 2nd place in points today. I guess he has 5 more races to make it back!
  14. +4 on the swingarm. Here's some vid I posted on face book from test runs in the pits (hope it works). Sorry no track photos yet, his class runs right before mine. https://www.facebook.com/bryan.king.37017
  15. OK, once in a while I use subjects from PMs I get about clutch tuning. While I don't give specifics in PMs or in this thread I will point you in the right direction. What do you do if the engine sounds like a centrifugal clutch going down the track or can't hear or feel the shifts. The base pressure in this situation is low enough to cause slip & that's the start of process. Now, you have to stop the slip. IMO, there's no reason to have clutch slip past the 60' & in most cases it should be locked before that. There are exceptions to every rule. Back to the problem & how to start fixing it. The basic answer is to start adding weight to the arms, but how much weight do you add? This is where you start with your baseline. Say in this situation we have 10g of weight on each arm. The important thing is to pick a weight you want to add in grams & keep it in your records. Lets say 1g per arm & go run your set-up. The ideal situation would be it fixed the down track slippage. In this case probably not. Back to the clutch being locked up by the 60'. If it's still slipping the rest of your run. You are way off on your arm weights. Now, lets say your clutch locks at 50' out. Then has slip down track in 4th & 5th gear. That indicates you are closer on your arm weights & may only need a small amount of weight. Don't get hung up on the numbers of base pressure & grams. You need them, but the important area is to make changes from them numbers, evaluated the data & determine if the change(s) help/hurt your run.
  16. Justin is still in 1st place after today, still have tomorrow. As for the tires, we threw on parts that I haven't destroyed in my accidents. We have a set of small ARs, but haven't bought rims for them yet. I was mistaken on the air pressure. Justin upped them to 29 lbs.
  17. We are really not trying to go faster! The main thing is to make the bike more race able. The old clutch needed to be changed. It was used for desert/dunes & with the first 4 drag races on I, itt was toast. We did nothing other than the install new frictions & steels. As for the tires, we had been running them at 25 lbs. & upped them to 29 lbs. Remember the tires are way too big for this quad & was probably a little big for our full drag quad. So, taking away bite on these tires is helping as you can see. We are running points races 6 & 7 today/tomorrow. Justin is still leading the points & will hopefully keep it that way.
  18. Test & tune tonight, the Secret Weapon screams to a best ET of 13.32 @ 91 mph with a 1.74 60'. The only changes made to this was a new clutch & rear tire pressure changes.
  19. Sorry no vids, but will try & get some one of these days.
  20. Wow, what happened to slow your numbers done that much? Your adjustments raised the mph by 3, what was done for that? The Secret Weapon yesterday was pitiful or might I say the rider was. High 14 for the 1st run & a low 15 for the second. Justin realized he was not fanning the clutch enough for the shifts causing missed shifts. 1st round of eliminations he fixed his problem for a 1st round loss.
  21. Our desert/play bike runs stock gearing (14/41). It's in 6th gear before the 1/8 mile mark & hits around 74 mph. At the 1/4 mile it hit 89 mph this past weekend. Talk about screaming into overrev for a long period of time. We have about 40 runs on it this way & not showing any damage yet. LOL!
  22. Thanks! Please do that. As for the Secret Weapon, this whole ordeal started out more of a joke than anything else. I'm sure you don't have to worry about its numbers. I know we have more left in it, but not sure if we can get into the 12s. Our goal with it was to go out have fun, be competitive, be slow, with little to no maintenance. We are having fun, now hoping to win a track championship, faster/quicker than we wanted & the only maintenance is the clutch.
  23. I forgot we are also going to put on the smaller tires, 20x8x10 ARs.
  24. Heck, you don't have to say anything. Good luck & have fun Sat, I'm sure you will. We have to put in a new clutch this week. The boy is giving it a pretty good work out hand clutching. Between have the clutch partially engaged when he stages for the pro light & slipping it on the launch. The clutch looks like it's being used in our Multi-Stage lockup. We are still using the stock 14/41 gearing. Last night at the bar, we were discussing doing some testing at a faster track than ours this summer. The main thing we want to change is the gearing & maybe put in the V-Force 4 reeds. We are hoping to get it into the 12s at a low elevation track.
  25. Secret Weapon Weekend Race Report, LOL! Double header #3 & #4 points race. #3 race Justin didn't fair to well with a 1st round loss. #4 race he took another 2nd place. That tallies (1) 1st & (2) 2nds out of 4 races & is still leading the points! This is mainly for Patsi. The quad made it's fastest pass today at 13.58 @ 89.09 mph with a 1.784 60.
