I wouldn't stray from a 14/41 sprocket combo. We have played with the gearing a couple times on our play quad. The best times & mph have come with the 14/41 combo & a 20.5 dia. tire. My son weighs 210-220. Our best mph in the 1/8 was 80 mph & 1/4 mile 92 mph. I think most of the information is in the thread below. http://bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=173690&page=3

OK! I should have thrown in the carbon fiber frictions while I was at it, but didn't want to get to far off base.

3 weeks away for the season open race Feb. 15 with the 1st T&T the day prior. Have a lot of new things/changes to work out in the car & quad. Today we spent the day setting up clutch, Dyna ignition & a lot of little things. I baselined the clutch today, but not too many changes from where it was. The 1st thing was to measure the spring installed height, weigh the arm weight & checked the air gap. We loosened the base pressure, kept the arm weights the same & tightened the air gap .016. We also installed new FAST frictions & plates. We are also trying 10w30 synthetic motor oil for the 1st time. The Dyna set-up is a little different for this motor. We are using one of our milder cub curves to start out. The biggest changes was the launch rpm & the shift rpm. We lowered both 1,000 rpm from the cub settings. Hopefully this gives us a good baseline & competitive set-up for the 1st points race.

We run these fuels because we have to for 1/4 mile. When we run shorter distances we get more aggressive with the tune with those fuels. If we only ran shorter distances we would probably do more testing with lower octane fuels & not so aggressive with the tune-ups.
-
Minimum we run is C14 & run Q16 for heads up.
-
I have a trusted guy at VP & that's is what I was told. Then I tried it & found it to be true. I like both fuels, but mainly run race gas, but change to the oxygenated stuff when heads up. The oxygenated fuel will not run as cool as the alky, but does run cooler than standard race gas. That's because of the volume of fuel you have to run thru the motor.
-
We drag race & some of the race gas makes more HP than alky. What it doesn't do is make more torque. Either way we are fast on both fuels, but chose to run specific race gas most of the time.

I got the bike home yesterday. I have a few minor things to do, but overall the Boys did a great job! We decided to put the black plastics on & you can see the ouch mark on the front left corner. All that mattered to us was the Trinity sticker was still unharmed.

Your right, but we did have success with it & some issues to go along with it. I could have painted a pretty picture about the whole ordeal, but I choose to tell the truth about it.

Here's our Fastest Quad On Earth, sorry I guess only the title was funny. LOL!

I'll start with the 1st quote, because that was the root of our problem. The problem we was having with the 12 paddle extremes was not being able to shift into 4th gear. The last gear we were using in 300', we leave in 1st for a couple of reasons. The main one being we have a 1-4 override & manual 5 & 6 trans. Anyway, we determined it was spinning the tires during the 3-4 shift. So, we decided on the 14 Rippers to get the hook & it did. That's why our Ripper mph went up over the Extreme mph. Plus, we were able to shift into 4th gear no problem. Now getting to your quote. Our clutch was tuned for the extremes & not for the Rippers. The only change made to the bike was the rear tire change. The results was killing the 60' from low 1.30s on the extremes to low 1.40s with the Rippers. With some clutch tuning we were able to get some of the 60' back to mid - high 1.30 with the Rippers. With more time on that set-up we would have matched or bettered the 60's, but we decided a bigger motor was better. Whole different story, LOL! Without getting into specifics, the Rippers pull the rpm down farther than extremes did at the drop of the clutch. We started lowering the primary clutch pressure using the springs. To raise the rpm when the motor loads the clutch. We needed to lower pressure even further, but sold the motor. As for the lock-up weight. We have set weights we use & very rarely do we need to change them. That came from many years of trial & error. Same as all the other clutch tuning. Like Tricked said "There is a whole write up on clutch set up that STY spawned in the drag section. Check it out. I'll bet it answers any questions you got." Hope that answered what you were asking, without me giving away too much information.

I mainly dealt with Little Jimmy & we didn't get off to a good start online. All is good now with him & we BS/have a beer at the track. Last time out there was 2010 @ Rockingham.

I've been back East to race 4 or 5 times. I'm know of Keith & Sanford racing from my trips.

Is your boy Keith or t-wayne ?

This was with the 433 Cub. Most street/strip type superbikes have little to no chance of winning 1/8 mile match ups. Against a properly set-up asphalt quad. That changes when we compete against them 1/4 mile. They have a better advantage there, but we still get some 1/4 mile wins against them.

Your comment is relevant like Windy's posts lately (none existent), but you are his Son. I guess you have to take over for your Father. The win light is on in my lane, both races!

These videos were taken by someone else of our quad. I remember the runs & the D-Bag on the bike. I just happened to find these by mistake on youtube. This guy had a Suzuki Hayabusa stretched, lowered, bolt-ons & nitrous. The 1st race, this Douche was adamant he wanted to race our quad. After trying to explain that wouldn't be a wise move. He lined up with us anyway & got beat. I have to give him credit for being stupid. He wanted to try it again & stated this time he would win. I told him I was toying with him on the 1st run. He lined up again & I saw him turn on the nitrous. I thought this might be a better race. It was a little closer, but we still won. LOL! He loaded his shit up after the 2nd race & took it home.

Believe it or not the set-ups for 1/4 & 1/8 mile really aren't that different. Typically our 1/4 mile set-up will run in the low 6's & has dipped into the 6.0's on occasion. Our main change when running 1/8 mile is using only 5th gear thru the finish line. That's to keep our rpm where we want it in the traps. During our 1/4 mile runs we are in 6th gear about a 100' before the 1/8. That's the only change gearing wise made for the 2 different distances. That change alone nets us around a .10 decrease in ET for the 1/8 mile. Now, when we travelled for head-ups racing we change a few other things to go along with the above 5th gear only deal. 1st, we change out our 1-4 manual 5 & 6 trans and put in the full 1-6 override. 2nd, we add more timing. 3rd, we sometimes lean out the motor a little. Lastly, we sometimes have to run our larger rear tires. So, what do all or some of these changes net = right around a .20 decrease in 1/8 mile ET.

Lighten up on the old man. You are hurting my feelings, LOL! The 1st stock frame was completely replaced along with most of the components. That's what happens when you go off a 70' razor back & lawn dart a Banshee. The 2nd accident was pretty mild compared to the 1st & the last one was on the sand chassis. Anyway, I have always put these things together for the 2 boys to race. This was the 1st time to let them have their choice on what they wanted to do. Angel is a great builder & Justin is a great racer. It was good for them to work/learn from each other. Especially Justin to learn the building side of the quads.

What is the rider weight? To me, this is one of the most overlooked question when picking a swingarm length.
-
It looks like it is & I also thought the right wheelie bar wheel was higher in a vid. The boy's assured me everything is straight & the pics/vid is deceptive. I haven't put my eyes on the bike yet, but will make sure to check their work.

We ran our 443 Cub with a +8 arm with 12 extremes & 14 haulers both 74"-75" RO. It only stood up one time with around 300 passes. It carried about a 6"-12" wheelie to the base of the hill. Super easy launch with the right clutch set-up.
