2004 Yfz450 Vs. 2004 Banshee
Toomey Banshee replied to lov2xlr8's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Sad but true, I too would like to get a 450, but I would keep my Banshee as well. The newer designs are where its at. Two strokes are being phased out and they are actually making the new 4 strokes act alot like a two stroke, i.e. faster reving, no bogs off of starts etc. With that being said, I still love my shee but am open minded, and maybe in a year or two wind up getting a YFZ, to keep my shee company. -
Yeah, thats not too bad of a ride. Close motels? Wouldnt mind checking it out this spring. Thanx.

Hey NYUK, how long of a ride is that for me? Coming from Manahawkin, by LBI? Thanx.

May Have To Sell The Shee

umm, what year is it? -
I'll give you 150 shipped. I bought a new set last seaon on ebay for my 99 for 175 shipped. I would like to try them out in my new beast, my 94. Let me know. Thanx.

The parking brake is an electrical nightmare. Follow the wires from the parking brake under the tank and disconnect it, dont think twice about it. My 99 was running like shit over the summer, backfiring, bogging, I took my carbs apart several times, cleaned them, rejetted and it would stop and then all of a sudden it would just freaking backfire. Drove me nuts. In the pit one day I just disconnected the sucker and it ran like it always did, strong. Again, back to your compression, bring her down hombre, too high is not alway that good. I run 17's in my 94 but its ported and polished, which lowers the compression a bit. As far as mix, I run, as well as a good portion of us in here a mix ratio of 32:1. Some more, some less. That has worked for me. Jetting is a totally differnet issue, MANY variables, elevation, temp., mods, pipes etc. Trial and error. Read your plugs, let us know how they look and we can help. Good luck.

155 without the timing advance is right on the edge. With the timing advance I would run half race and half pump.
-
Agreed, straight race fuel. 200+ is a huge compession #. I hope your crank is welded. As far as the backfiring goes, I assume you have your parking brake disconnected, if not that may be the problem. Back to the compression, try bringing that down a bit, try some 19's. It will be more reasonable to tune and your motor wont wanna jump outta the frame.

Yeah the yamalube works great. I have used it in my 99 since she was new and still on the stock top end. The 2S is for the oil injection unit on the Blaster, so I would steer clear. I'm not sure if it would hurt anything but just use the 2R.

Now I have you beat, chrome SPRAY PAINT exhaust is the tits.

Greatest Comedy Movie Of All Time!
Toomey Banshee replied to thecabinboy's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Yupper, the shack is outstanding! "Mrs. Green, I'm looking at you. You wore green cuz you thought you hide". "Cinderella boy. he's got about 150 yards to go, I think he's gonna use about a, 4 iron, he's got a beautiful back swing, Its in the hole, tears in his eyes I guess". Another classic, AWESOME movie is, without a doubt Smokey and the Bandit. Those two are right on par with one another. Jackie Gleason was a genous. Great flick, grat cast, VERY FUNNY! For you younger folk who like Caddyshack, without a doubt watch Smokey and the Bandit. A traysure, a buried traysure. (who knows that reference). Anyway, two grat flicks. -
From where I sit, Stock is the king. No doubt.

We have a TrailBlazer 250 that I bought new in 98. Just had the Tranny rebuilt, other than that it was/is a great machine. Compression still near perfect and the ride is nice. Great for a buddy bringer quad or for your wife to put around on. I have to admit, I dont mind buzzing around on it either. AHEM, I mean my ported polished bored ticked out Banshee is the only ride out there, oh well you know what I mean. Nice little quad, regardless.

115 per cylinder is not bad at all, assuming this is a stock motor and head. New is 130 at sea level. A general rule of thumb is a difference of over 10 lbs. between cylinders or under 100 lbs. per cylinder before a rebuild. You may be able to get another season out of her, and you might not. If it were me I would wait, however. Good luck.

With that info, no I wouldnt be concerned with getting it welded. I would want to know EXACTLY what size dome you are running and what EXACTLY your compression is. Remember, the higher your compression is the more likely you will have crank problems.

I have a bike with T-5's, all stock except for some bolt on stuff, see sig below, and a ported polished bike with CPI's, see that below as well. The CPI's and T-5's sound very similar. The CPI's seem to rev out a bit more than T-5's. My one suggestion is if you are going to or already have your bike ported, get the CPI's, if not and no porting is in your future get the Toomeys.

Take it easy, You post and expect someone to post immediately right after? We'll try to help you out, just relax. Whats your compression and what size domes are you running?
-
Have you actually checked the compression? If not now would be a good time to. As far as the 160 mark you are absolutely correct, but the timing advance coupled with your increase in compression will increase your chances of detonating over just the shaved head, so to be on the safe side, I would run the mix. As far as waiting till the top end goes before you weld the crank I dont think that is a bad idea. How long is on the top end? Still running good? Again, take a compression test now and check it regularly and when the compression starts to drop rip her down and do the whole thing, port/polish, pistons and crank.

You Guys In Here Have Beeen So Good

Evil, are those your Shees? Anymore pics of the Black one on the back/right? Nice looking machines. -
I would get a firm handle on what your compression is. Also with the timing advance AND the milled head I would at the very least run 50/50 race/premium.
-
Without a doubt your valves need adjusting. Very simple. My youngest sons Rap 80 had the same EXACT problem. I adjusted the valves and it starts by just touching the starter. Throw a new plug, clean the air filter and take the plate with the holes in it from in front of the air filter after you adjust the valves and you'll be good for another season of riding.

Change Domes, Or Change Fuel
Toomey Banshee replied to Blacksmith's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Its not just the question of will your crank hold up, over time it wont, but your top end wont hold up in the here and now. Anything flirting around 160 lbs I would run a mix of 50/50 race and 93 or 94. Anything NEAR 170 I would run straight race. If anything I would throw in some 21's if you still want to be on pump fuel. -
Yeah Willy, thats right by my house. We rode there 3-4 times a week last spring summer and fall. We pretty much rode every day I was off. Pretty good place, not as good as Sarco, but still pretty good. Its not Georges Reas11, thats off of 74. Let us get done with the wrestling season and the warmer weather to come and I'll show you around. Lemme know when you get that Passion motor in, I am very interested to see how it runs. The Red Banshee is now the boys since I just bought Steves, and I have to do the top end this late winter or early spring and maybe get it ported for him. Later, Bob
