  1. Another vote for the shee. If your racing MX, GNCC, or something like that, then the 450R might be better for you. But if it's just a play bike your going to be unbelievably bored if your used to riding a Banshee. Everytime I ride my buddies 4 pokes upstate, Im thinking "neat, this bike handles good, and has even power delivery, very easy to ride" but I'm never really scared or excited. Jump on a Banshee, totally different story, never had a trail ride where I didn't come back with stiff hands and sweaty palms.
  2. Youc ould have built one hell of a Banshee for trail, dunes, play, whatever you want to do for the price you probably paid for that thing. Come on, who goes on a 2 Stroke Yamaha board and posts up something like " I just got rid of my Banshee to buy a 4 stroke Suzuki", it doesn't make any sense. Either way, good luck....
  3. Hey, whats up man? Yeah, it is the same Mity Vac, and I'm doing just that, but it wont pull fluid through, all it does is suck in air from the threads/base of the bleeder valve. I also tried using the EZ Bleeder, which pushes fluid through from the bleeeder valve up to the master cylinder, and same deal, it just pushed fluid through the threads of my bleeder. I inspected the caliper, taking it all apart, but no dice, everything looks clean and good. Thanks man.
  4. Ohh, and when I say its pulling through the threads, Ive tried it with the bleeder valve from about 1/4 turn open to 2 turns open.
  5. Hey, whats up? So Ive been fucking around with the back brake on my 2001 build for a few weeks now. Ive never had issues bleeding it by hand before, but this time I just couldnt get any pressure to build. Only a few drops of fluid come out, and there looks to be no air bubbles. Anyway, the master cylinder, line, and caliper are all brandy new, as well as the banjo bolts and gaskets. I can move the piston in the caliper with a pipe, and everything appears to be mechanically fine. Anyway, I have an EZ Bleeder which is pretty much a syringe that injects the fluid through the bleeder valve, and up through the lines, but all it did was push the fluid through the threads, so I said fuck it, let me buy a mity vac, since thats what everyone beens talking about. Anyway, the mity vac does basically the same thing. Instead of pulling fluid from the resevoir it pulls air through the threads of the bleeder valve. No fluid. I even disconnected the pin from the brake lever thinking maybe the master cylinder was closed up, but even with the master cylinder all the way down, still nothing. I was wondering if any of you guys with the Mity Vac have any ideas. How do you usally do this? I think I may have other problems here, but the Caliper looked fine inside, and everything is brand new.
  6. Try craigslist, theres always a ton of shit on there when I surf at work.
  7. Wow, I have to take a look at the stocker I just pulled. I could have swork those wires didnt come off. Maybe it's just the plug boots Im thinking of. I think I paid like 140 for my Nology with the hotwires. But then youll have to fab up a bracket to mount it on. I just used some angle aluminum.
  8. Wow, you guys have a ton of bikes!!! How much are you looking to get for it?
  9. The compression check will tell you what you need to know, that's the first thing I would do.
  10. My bad, I havent ridden a z400. But I ass-u-me they arent far off of a 400ex. Once you have the jetting figured out you should be good for a long time. But as soon as you get the bike Id take apart the carbs and bee 100% certain its correct. I clean my carbs once a year, but that's a little anal, you could probably let them go every other year as long as your run it enough. An 06 should be in good shape and have less abuse then some of the older clunkers out there. Use the search too, somebody posted up a guide on what to look for when buying a used bike. But basically make sure all the seals/gaskets look clean, and theyre not leaking, check the wheel carrier/hub bearings for play. And make sure all the fluids are filled. Usually if you talk to the owner you can kind of tell whether he took care of it, or just beat the hell out of it. If you ask him about the jetting, and he feeds you a line like "ohh these bieks will run on water" or if he tells you "this thing will do 100 mph" Id stay away, it's some dumbass who ruined the bike and is trying to unload it. Good luck, and if you do pick it up post up some pics!!!
  11. Bump for ya. Im in the same boat, my old lady got me a PS3 for Christmas, I havent even touched the thing yet.
  12. Are you the dude running the +4 timing key? If so, that might be your problem. :yelrotflmao:
  13. You have to do a compression check and see what PSI your making in both cylinders. If the right side is really low, then you know there is a mechanical problem somwhere. If both cylinders are fine, then you more then likely have an electrical issue still. Whether it be a coil, or the wiring, or plugs, or stator, who know. But the compression check will narrow down to electrical or mechanical. If I had to venture a guess, assuming that your carbs are perfect. Id say your compression is probably low in the right cylinder. I would say that you might have a bad seal from the head install, but again this is completely a guess. Once you get the compression test results you can go from there. You can also check the reeds. If the right side reed broke, or is worn out, then that would also cause this to happen.
  14. If you get one that was not abused, and you keep up on regular maintenance then of course!!!! I see too many people buy the first cheap junk bike they see, and then wonder why they have a ton of problems. Banshees arent as forgiving as other bikes when it comes to tuning them. Wrong jetting = blow piston. People beat the crap out of them a lot of times, never jet them right, and then unload them. Just like a lot of other bikes. I have had great luck with both my Banshees, but I keep up on oil/fluid changes. When a bolt falls out, or a chain skid goes I replace it. I just rebuilt my 2001 last year. All it really needed was a top end after 6 years of riding, but I did a total rebuild on it. My 02 is super reliable too. The only thing Ive ever done was misc. bearings here and there, but thats about it. Jetting is going to be your biggest issue. If you can stay on top of that, and have the right jetting then 90% of the mainetnance is done. That said, a 400ex to a Banshee is going to be a big jump. Completely different animal. I rode a 400ex a few summers back and I wasnt a big fan, the engine was pretty sluggish and handled like a tank. But, it is an insaely reliable bike from what I hear from my buddies that have them. It's always going to be a trade off, the faster you go, the more work your going to have to do.
  15. Bump for ya, you guys do some sick work!!
  16. Chrome don't get you home!! :yelrotflmao: Looks good bro!! If chrome would hold up for me Id definately get some. Looks like hell though after a few rides at the coal pits.
  17. You could also call CPW, Carb Parts Warehouse, if you buy jets from them they will get you in the ball park on where you should be. They got me close when I had my 28s.
  18. I had 1 hell of a time trying to jet my Keihins, not too many people running them. If you have trouble finding info, call CPW, Carb Parts Warehouse, if you buy jets from them they will get you in the ball park on where you should be.
  19. On my PT mids the rad house almost always touches the pipes. I tried to rig it up different ways with zip ties and such, and I got it decent. Just make sure the hose isnt starting to melt and it should be ok. As for jetting are you running a full air box, just without the snorkel? If so you should be at a 260 main 25 pilots with about 1.5 turns out on the air screw Needle with clip on the middle Those 290s and 300s are going to be too big if you still have a lid on that air box.
  20. On all my Banshees I've had, if I leave the gas on, I get about an ounce or two of spilled gas on the floor when I come back the next day. A certain amount is going to be expected. In fact Ive even see 4 stroke bikes do that. If you get a lot, if it's like emptying out your tank then you have some carb issues. This has been covered ALOT before.
  21. On a stocker the plug wires are permanently attached. I wouldn't go cutting them and splicing new wires in.
  22. Your floats either arent set correctly, or are dirty. Search around, there are a lot of topics on it.
  23. Is it the High Capacity one?? If so let me know Ill trade you a Boonman lightened stocker with like 2 rides on it for it. Hit me up.
  24. Yooo, long time no see! Did you see my finished bike? It has a few things from your old Banshee on it. http://s38.photobucket.com/albums/e130/JHu...banshbuild8.jpg Damn, all this talk about Rs makes me want one again. Ask the dude is he wants my 02 Banshee, Ill tell you if was worth it or not.
  25. Also, a few words of wisdom because you come off as a newb. Don't get discouraged. I'm guessing this was/is a used bike. You never know what your getting into even when a bike looks perfect. You can save a ton of money by buying used, but this is what can and does happen. That being said, Banshees are easy bike to diagnose and fix, and this board is a huge help. Your bike honestly doesnt sounds that bad, definately fixable with a little bit of patience.
