Only real difference is starting in 1991, they went to a-arms versus j-arms. The a-arm bikes are a little stronger in the front end and easier to upgrade later on. Otherwise, aside from really minor stuff (electrical connectors, etc) no differences. Any year bike in decent shape would be a good bet.

Thanks bro!! I checked there site, but didnt see anything about stators under the Banshee parts. I sent them an e-mail though.
-
Hmmm, that sounds like a good idea. I might give them a call and see what theyre charging for that. After hearing all of the stories about RS I really want to stay away from their stuff, at least until I hear it's better. The last thing I want to worry about is whether a brand new stator may or may not work next time I go riding.
-
Not mine and havent seen it, but saw it on craigslist. Seems like it has a lot of parts and work done. Not a bad price either. http://cnj.craigslist.org/mcy/822283036.html

Yeah, Id definately dump a semi stock Banshee for one of those. They look like theyre done right!!
-
Yeah, what makes that Ricky Stator better then the other Ricky Stators?? Ive done a few timing plates, flywheels, stock stators, so I definately know what Im doing as far as the install goes. Ive just heard stories about the RS stators burbning out, and shit like that.

When was the last rebuild?? I had a 2001 with a lot of hours, and abuse on it. I finally got it running right, but only had 100PSI in each cylinder, I ran it like that for a year before rebuilding it. It took a couple kicks to get it started, but ran fine. As long as the bike is tuned right, 110PSI isnt bad, and it will still run. But low compression can sometimes be a sign of a poorly tuned bike, in which case running it could lead to problems.

I run a -1 LSR swinger on my bike with a TCS rebuilt stock rear shock. The +2+1 arms will move the front of the bike out an inch, and a -1 will move the rear of the bike in an inch. So the bike will be same length as a stock bike, but your center of gravity will be closer to the back wheels. I'm a lighter guy so I noticed a huge difference with my new suspension setup. Definately hooks eaiser out of the corners, and gets way more traction (which is good for a high revving motor like these). Alot of guys are running -2s now, I was concerned that would be a little too short, although Ive never ridden one. The biggest thing is going to be making sure you have the right shock for the shortened swinger. TCS will rebuild your stock rear for around $300-$400, (includes new valving, recharge and springs) they do an awesome job, and the rebuilt rear is comparable to a $700 elka rear for a lot less. All in all, if you dont care about the price, or can find something cheap I would definately reccomend it. If you price out a -1 brand new, and a TCS rebuild your over $1000. I don't think it's worth that much. I found a used swinger, and did the $400 TCS rebuild so the whole rear cost me about $650. For that price Id reccomend it.

Damn... they are really the only ones I see around, I guess Ill have to keep my eyes open for a used older Ricky Stator then. Anybody else know anything I dont???
-
Bump for ya, watch ebay, and search for YFZ, and Raptor rims too, they all take the same bolt pattern but some guys list them up like: "Hiper rims for a YFZ450" and say nothing about a Banshee or Yamaha. I picked mine up for $750 with Holeshot HDs with 50% tread.

All the parts you CAN powdercoat on a banshee
LiftdT4R replied to 714banshee380's topic in Banshee Appearance
Yeah, I was going to say, basically anything metal on the bike can be powdercoated. Even the pipes if you use the high temp stuff. Make sure you get somebody good though or youll be kicking yourself. I had a dude do my calipers, and he completely fucked them up. I eventually just junked them because there was PC places where there shouldnt have been and then they never worked right. Prep is the key. Some of the stuff such as the foot brake lever is easy, pices with more bolt holes, grroves, etc will be harder because they require more prerp work. Id use good judgement and do the easy stuff first. Kaotik1 did most of my PC on small stuff, and Id definately reccomend him, definately knows what hes doing. -
Hey, what's up everyone?? I'm looking to buy a 200 watt stator for my my 01 bike, but I was wondering who's all making a decent one now?? Have the Ricky Stator ones gotten any better? I know they were junk when I looked at them last year. I also saw some Chinese stuff up on fleabay from time to time. ny info would be appreciated. Thanks guys!!!
-
Yes! Even if the engine is blown, you could still part out the good stuff and make some money on it.
-
Anywhere near NJ?? You can pick one up at my crib for free. No petcock, but has all good holes on it.

It seems like most of his deals go just fine, but there are quite a few posts on here about bad deals as well. Check his feedback too.

Damn, that's a tough call, because I dont know anybody in that situation. Personally, I think Id rather have the Banshee to put around on the street on. If your planning on riding it alot the parts and maintenance should be less expensive then R1 stuff. Ive ridden a R1 bike, and it was a ton of fun, Ive never ridden an R1 quad though, and Im not sure if that would be more fun then a Banshee. Also, what frame are they using to build these quads? Any how is the craftsmnaship. For that price, Id definately check out the welds, and just the overall quality of the design. When it comes down to it Im leaning more toward the Banshee, because it is a really decent design, and your going to have a bike thats really easy to get parts for. Ive never done any serious street riding so my experience is limited though.

Uhhh, a year later, and bump for ya again. These tanks still hold a lot. Purple is going to be a tough sell though my man. But, this could be painted up real nice in a different color, not too hard either.

When your the best there are bound to be haters.....

Nice bikes!!! It good to see people still romping on these things in the woods, trails, and tracks.

I ran Works, front shocks, w/o rezzies, and I really liked them. I now have Elkas w/o rezzies, and I really couldnt tell much of a difference. Are you doing +2+1 arms too? If not I might wait, and do both at the same time or else you may be revalving the shocks for +2+1s later on. Either way, anything is better then a set of blown out old stockers and youll see a big improvement.
-
They do have the pussy scent but theyll only sell it to you if you ride a 4 stroke!
-
Hell yeah, I love mine, they put dual rate springs in there and valved it to match my Elkas up front. If you just want to have them rebuild it and reuse the stock spring, and dont want anything fancy I believe it was less then $300.
-
If you do a search around here there was somebody that posted directions for doing it. Be forewarened it's not simple. As I remember Yamaha doesn't make the shock completely rebuildable. When you send it out to Elka, Works, TCS, they put a lot of new parts into it to change the valving, etc. I don't remember what's all done, but for the $400 TCS charged to rebuild/respring mine it was well well worth it, they have their shit down to a science.
