Keeping The Shee Running Cooler!
LiftdT4R replied to 06specialedition's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Here's a couple mods I did on mine, ebcause I run a lot of tight trails, and sometimes the ehat is a factor. AutoZone Temp Gauge Cap I re-ran the coolant overflow lines, basically, I ditched the overflow, and ran the one light out of the rad along my bars. If the bike overheats, I can see it spray coolant. You can see it zip tied to the hand guard on the left side of the bars. I also did the billet impeller, oversized rad, and coolhead. I just run plain jane antifreeze 50-50, but I have heard that Engine Ice makes a big difference. From what Ive seen don't bother with the inline coolers, they dont lower operating temps significantly, and you have to cut your hose, so you end up with more places for leaks. -

Wow, old post but did you try Carb Parts Warehouse, CPW, they usually have harder to find stuff.

The above poster is right, different gauges will give slightly different readings (but it shouldnt vary a lot). 115 is decent assuming your running a stock head. I think off of a fresh rebuild you should be 125, so even at 115 you have plenty of life left. When you get down around 100 you should be looking at rebuilding.

I couldnt see it helping a whole heck of a lot. Are you having problems running hot? AN OS Radiator or a cool head along with a billet impeller should be your best bet. I never had a problem with my stock rad and head though. You just don't want to run too much timing or compression. And keep the bike moving. -
Bump for ya bro. Jeff is a standup guy, some nice parts there too!
-
Really? Where can I get the petals at I'll have to give them a shot. I never really noticied a big difference in reeds, I run Boyesen Rad Valves now, but I barely noticed a difference over stock.

Whats the diffrence between years?
LiftdT4R replied to jean-gui-rubber-boots's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
This has been covered a lot. Not much changed. 87 - 90 had J-arms 02 and up have a brake light there were different styles of electrical connectors over the years Early Banshees had a different rear wheel pattern 4 on 156 if I remember right, this was the same pattern as the front. -
The rear does not. I have yet to find a dual piston caliper that will bolt up to the rear bracket on a Banshee. There was a thread with this a while back with different suggestions, but as far as I know there isnt a dual piston caliper that will just bolt up. You would have to make a bracket to use one. The PDV Banshees run them, and a few other racers.

Sounds good bro! We ride decent for the most part. Some of our group isnt going to be wearing lids, but I see that there isnt a helmet law up there anyway. I'll have my new Banshee, but I just fixed up my YZ, so I'll be riding that most of the time.

Give it a couple of years....
-
That's a tricky one, probably going to have to pull the side cover and take a look at what's going on in there.
-
What your supposed to have depends on your setup. Are you running a stock head? And is it ported? http://www.nossmachine.com/banshee_heads.htm has a chart about half way down. To check it you buy a compression tester, from a store like Sears, and you screw it in the spark plug hole. Turn off the kill switch, and hold the throttle wide open, and kick the bike until the guage stops moving. Presto! You'll have your compression. Generally on a stock motor at sea level you want to do a rebuild when you get down to around 100PSI.
-
Ohhh, you'll definately know. The bike wont run anymore if the top end blows. If it's starting to go the bike will also be very hard to start. If the head gasket blows it either wont run or will run like shit and burn coolant. Also, you'll have very little compression left if you want to throw a compression guage on there.

If you run into trouble on those PWKs, call up Carb Parts Warehouse, as long as you buy stuff from them they should be able to help you out with the jetting.
-
I second that, +4 is a great, cheap mod. More low end, and a good bang for the buck. The timing makes it run a hair hotter, but other then that you shouldnt even have to compensate for it in the jetting on a mild engine. As for the tires I'm kind of partial to the Hole Shot HDs, definately a heavier, more expensive tires, but one of the best Ive found.
-
I have had more trouble with axle bearing and hub bearings then anything else on my bike when I beat on it. The motor never gave me any issues. Like the above poster said make sure its jetted right, and tight.

I'm jealous. In the U S of A you can own almost any firearm you want, but you can't own a 2 stroke quad. We need to form an NRA of sorts to protect 2 strokes! [rant off]

Nice find!! I love the 66-77s, they are awesome trucks!! I'm guessing it probably has the 3 speed? If you have any pics post it up, I love to see the old Broncos, Scouts, Jeeps, Defenders and FJs.

Awesome man, yeah we're staying in Bingham, I think it's me and about 12 other people so far. Some 4x4s, some sport quads. I know we have 1 other Banshee going and a couple YFZs. I'm mainly going to ride my bike, but if the trails look decent I might take out my new Banshee. If you guys wanna meet up one day and do some trails that would be awesome. I'll shoot you a PM as I get closer to going up there. I'm still in the planning stages yet.
-
What's goin on man? I'll be up there aug 19th through 23rd. Anybody that wants to come out is definately welcome, just don't bring a clunker out on the trails, we wanna ride, not wrench. How are the trails up there? And how are the Conservation officers? We've only heard a couple of stories so far, but the pictures look awesome. I wanna know what Ive gotten myself into with this trip.

Hey, what's up? I found out yesterday that I'm heading up to Maine at the end of the summer for an 4 wheelin' trip. I was wondering if anybody on the board was familiar with the area or lives up there. Me and my buddies usually go on one trip a year, for the last 4 years it's been out to Pennsy, but this year one of my buddies wanted to try this place. It's near Bingham, and we're renting a cabin. Supposedly every quad has to be registered in Maine. I wanted to bring my YZ too, but I'm not sure if they allow the bikes on the trails or not, and the people at the lodge didnt really sound like they knew. Anyway I was wondering if anybody has ridden up there, and how it is, also if theres anything/anyone I should watch out for? Thanks guys!!!
-
Sounds like theres nothing wrong with your bike it just sounds like you havent ridden a 2 stroke before. What kind of pipes are you running? You don't have to spend crazy $$$ or do a ton of mods to the bike. It should be very rideable, especially in trails, with very few mods. I think the above poster is referring to making the bike "race ready". You can probably choose a better bike if your racing MX. But as a play bike it should be fairly easy to smooth out the power delivery and should be a very fun bike to ride, if your into 2 strokes that is.
-
But what kind of bike and a-arms were they valved for? If it's not a Banshee with your style arms, then they could ride worse then a blown set of stockers. As long as they are for the same bike and arms the riding style, and rider weight shouldnt make a huge difference.
