  1. Don't have to pull the pistons. But you do have to pull the jugs. You will have to pull the pistons to get an accurate measurement on the large end play of the rod. SP
  2. Alright......(sigh)....what's the count now?
  3. And after this you took it apart to find the rings slightly worn but not bad enough to cause compression loss and the lateral play in the connecting rods? SP
  4. I am pretty friendly with my impact. We have been together for awhile. I don't know what else to say. Tight is tight and it is a large diameter so you would really have to put it to it to fuck up the threads. It needs to be tight and then lock it into place. But I really don't think many people torque it to spec. SP
  5. Its getting limp! Pushing hard is just smashing it! lol! SP
  6. I just zip it on with an impact wrench. Lock the washer down and call it good. Anybody else torque the flywheel nut? SP
  7. Connecting rods will have a little play. The lateral tolerance is called out in the Bible (Clymer manual). How would a bearing cause low compression. Compression is obtained by pressurizing the volume between the top of the piston and the dome above the exhaust roof. Intake and transfer ports are closed as well so the reeds are not in question. The top of the piston doesn't provide an adequate seal, that is what the rings are for. The only other place to leak pressure is through a hole in the piston, the spark plug thread or the head seal (o-ring or gasket). Crank bearings play no part in this. SP
  8. Sounds more like rings or cylinder to me. Bore and hone and new pistons is more likely. SP
  9. If you are going with 16/40 gearing and can pull it you wont want any more top end. Depending on the porting you may need bigger carbs (all depends on how much the port job can flow). There are all kinds of things you can do in the tranny, forks, straight cut gears, bearings on the shift shaft, bearings on the shift drum, remove dogs from gears, heavy duty bearings, port match the cases, etch the crank chamber, the list goes on. I run a "close ratio" 6th gear which is a little shorter then stock (closer ratio to fifth) not sure if you can find a taller one or not. But like I said, with 16/40 I don't think you'll be looking to go any faster if you can pull it! Sp
  10. Come on Snop. We grow weary and the anticipation is fading. SP
  11. Not sure where Hurley is at but most shops in the KC area charge about $40 to $50 a hole for boring. If you don't have the money to do it right I would wait until I did. It will likely cost you more in the long run if you try to get it done cheaply or half assed. And custom pistons are not going to be cheap! SP
  12. The reading really isn't important. The RPMs should be set according to your Clymer manual and both corbs should show the same reading. The lower the reading, the more accurate you can set them since the range lessens as the reading increases. I would imagine engines ported differently would flow different amounts so you couldn't compare readings. SP
  13. I've also got a 4 mill dune port from Kevin. I run 35mm PWKs with CPIs at about 195psi. It is a great dune bike! Has plenty of low end and pulls nicely through the RPM range. I haven't had it on a Dyno in awhile but I am guessing its around 75-80hp which is what Kev said it would be. Not to mention that he is always there to answer questions. I have seen alot of Jeff's bikes run and they run well also. I do business with him as well since he is close and he is an awesome guy. SP
  14. She's likely more interested in the girl in your avatar!
  15. The pins in the bearing need to be aligned with the recess in the case half. These keep the bearing from spinning with the crank and can cause the crank to be out of alignment. Sounds like you need to split the cases and check. Sorry. SP
  16. I had the same issue with the last one I had but it had an aluminum shaft. Modquad is no using a stainless shaft. Anybody have experience with the new ones? SP
  17. Pretty sure its the shaft. New seals less then a season ago and the impeller is about 4 years old! Shaft had wear on it when I replaced the seals. SP
  18. I am getting coolant in my tranny. I am sure that there is a groove worn in the water pump impeller from the seal. I was looking in my RM ATV catalog and for a replacement Pro Design impeller (same as I currently have) and noticed that Modqaud has upgraded the shaft on theirs to a stainless steel shaft. This has always been the issue with the inferior water pump impellers is the shaft wears out quickly. Anybody try the new Modquad impeller? If so, let me know, there is a $35 difference in price. If not, then I have no issue spending the extra for the one I know will last. Likewise, I don't want to give $35 away if I don't have to! Jeff also has the PD impeller for the same price. If it is PD then I'll get it form him anyway. Just curious if Modquad has stepped up to the plate. Thanks, SP
  19. WTF!?! If you tear it down now you may be able to salvage without boring. That is the life of your engine. 10 hours every rebuild is crazy! But I guess if you have enough money to throw at it and that is what you want to do power to ya! I would really try to figure out what is wrong and fix it so you can ride it and enjoy it. Riding it not knowing when it is going to lock up next doesn't make for an enjoyable time.. SP
  20. There is a set of Rockets on ebay for $200. 4 hours left. Item number 110326658704.
  21. Kevin will let you know what carbs will be best. I know his motors flow a lot of fuel though! Porting and stroking will get more power from your motor but you'll only get more speed out of it by changing your gearing. Taller gears will get you more speed but you need the power from the motor to pull them. SP
  22. I don't know! I guess to each his own. I'll sit here watching the kids play nintendo next to the fire instead of freezing my ass off and wait till spring to go ride in the sand! LOL. And whats with the "once its an ATV, it can never be made a snowmobile for use on state trails"? That seems like some bullshit to me! That's about like saying "once you go to the work force, you can't go back to school"! WTF? SP
