If you're doing a No link, it's best to set it up with a new upper perch that allows the shock to be more vertical.
If you decide to do a laid down shock from the swing arm to the factory upper shock mount, it will take a quality shock or Marvin that is set up with that in mind. Typically when people use a lay down set up, the ass of the bike will lurch up and the nose will dive. So it takes valving to correct that behavior.
