  1. Heli-coils or if your machinist has them ask for a keensert. they are even better than heli-coils. Last time i did the top end on my shee i put helicoils in all the holes for the jug studs. When i replace the crank i am going to heli-coil all the case mating holes too.
  2. Get some 400 grit or finer lapping compound. Very lightly coat the round side of the key with the paste and slip it into the groove. Wipe up any excess without moving the key. Shouldn't move then.
  3. I have a lathe. Where can i get some blueprints on the mods necessary to cut the domes for my cool head? 4mm over stock stroke means it goes 2mm further up the bore. .079 inches roughly. I would prefer not to run a spacer plate that gives away you are running a stroker crank. I want to be able to say its just a 370 and be believed. I just sold one of my "extra" bikes and have some money burning a hole in my wallet. Want to make my shee put the whoop ass on my best friends extremely worked over yfz450 (Hi comp piston, cams, ported, piped, aftermarket ignition) this thing Hauls ass!
  4. Like the description says I need to put a new crank in my shee. It had a stock stroke 5mm? hot rod using blaster pistons. Do i want to replace it with the same style of crank or stroke it 4mm? How about some opinions?
  5. I agree. save up for some cubs or send your set out to a professional. Those don't look worth the money. I have tried porting several cylinders. When you don't know what you are doing you can ruin a good flowing cylinder with the quickness. But asking professionals for some input and paying attention to detail can get you a good set of cylinders.
  6. with as often as we tear down and rebuild the top ends on our banshees it doesn't make sense unless you are looking for every tiny bit of power. Ceramic coating and dry film lubricants are worth power if used and applied correctly. Will it be worth the effort and cost for 2-3 hp?
  7. I was at the Buttercup "comp" hill in the south dunes. There was 1 LTR450 there. It was holding its own against everything except a custom 450r. win some lose some. All he had done was remove the spark arrestor and pull the air box lid. I liked the way it looked and it sounded alright for a stock bike. Just waiting to see what one does with a bigger cam, more compression, undercut sodium filled titanium vlaves, 5 angle valve job and a wicked mid range port job.
  8. I'll give you $50 shipped for the carbs, slides and springs to Ca 92040 You can keep the tors and throttle cable.
  9. Its a pity that the rest of the country doesn't have the market for banshee's that socal does. If you see one listed for less than 3k you need to jump on it right away or someone else scoops it up. good luck I hope you get what your looking for it.
  10. I have 2 shee's i ride on a regular basis (almost 90% of my riding is at glamis mind you) One has COMPLETELY stock shocks and suspension (2003 LE) The second(2000) has +2+1 roll arms and PEP rezzies up front with stock swingarm and Precision concepts rebuilt stock rear (single rate spring.)It also has a +4 width axle too. All set shocks up for a 200# rider. You can fly through the whoops faster and for longer stretches before arm pump sets in on the suspension worked bike. it rides smoother. Is more stable. But, From stock to worked you will notice a huge difference.
  11. Or you could go to Grainger or your local industrial supplier and get a thread size checker. If you do this kind of stuff a lot, its the best $40 you will ever spend. I have one for standard and metric threads. It has paid for itself many times over already.
  12. buy 290-330 (all of them)mains and 25-30 (same here)pilots. get a carb sync tool too. Read the jetting FAQ's Tuning is tedious but very rewarding Have fun.
  13. not trying to hi jack this thread but would there be interest in some O-ringed plugs for the exhaust and intake ports to seal them while storing or washing you engines? I could make em out of delrin or teflon pretty cheaply.
  14. First off my condolences to the friends and family of the deceased. That sucks to hear regardless of age. Those kiddie tracks bite. My girlfriend is recovering from a fractured wrist because of one of those. She went over the bars of my SHEE i can still see it in slow motion in my mind. I didn't know she was that limber!
  15. Those are sone great pics! Looks like a lot of fun. I take it with the sand frozen you don't need paddles? I am kinda spoiled i live 2.5 hours from glamis and 1.5 hours from ocotillo wells. I can go riding whenever i want in the winter. Never paid attention to how long it takes to get to cantemar in the summer. Socal has great riding available year round.
  16. where is the truck located?
  17. I have 2000 white plastics. Race cut fronts stock rears. Some scratches not beat all to hell. I want some black rear fenders without creases for the white plastics. Don't care if they are maier fullbore or factory as long as they look decent and are shiny.
  18. What are you looking for for the truck? Does it pass smog? Is it registered or non op'd?
  19. Spray it with Polyeurathane. Give it 3 coats and it will last a long time.
  20. They came with the bike. I didn't buy them. I am getting some Black T-5's. When the paint flakes off i am getting them ceramic coated. I want to see what that does to the power and power band.
  21. well my duner isn't pretty. all that bling is a waste of money in my opinion. if it doesn't make it handle better or go faster why spend the money on it. I have the carbon 2003LE radiator shroud and black fronts. Black tank cover and still need the black rears. Then it will be just the look i want. Except maybe some of those stock black banshee rims
  22. I think it looks good. I personally don't like the fact that Yamaha ran this bike pretty much unchanged for almost 20 years and only really changed the fromt suspension. All else is pretty much unchanged. Stock plastics, fullbores. still unmistakeably BANSHEE. Good job on taking YFZ plastics and adapting it to your banshee. Looks like a quality job of modification and fabrication. I was considering putting my spare Shee Engine in a Suzuki LT chassis i have sitting in my back yard.(with purple plastics and a black seat) It is either the Shee engine or my 85 CR500 engine. That would be Hot Rodding OLD School style. taking a big engine and throwing it into a smaller lighter chassis. All things being equal the LT350Z be faster than a Stock chassis'd banshee. My 87 weighs 312 lbs with a full tank of fuel. my 85 weighs 310 lbs full. What does a banshee weigh full? How much weight will the tubing and engine add to it? But by the looks of most of the replies here it would be blasphemy to do that. Wasn't it Loco that had a cr500 powered shee chassis? That bike was sick. I want to do something similar but have everyone think it is just an LT at first glance. Either banshee or CR powered
  23. Well for those of us in San Diego / socal Darryl Smith in spring valley has great prices for sand tires. 22x10x8 9 cup haulers on .190 douglas wheels for $231 OTD
