http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_demographics_of_the_United_States What numbers you lookin' at Matt? To the OP... Alcohol will add power and run a bit cooler. Along with that, it is easier, IMO, to tune. You can be very fat on alky and it will run well. You get your most power on the bleeding edge of lean/deto, just like on gas or any fuel. You'll burn through twice as much, so proper fuel system delivery (tank, fuel valve, carb bowls, possible fuel pump, etc.) all need to be taken into consideration. For a two stroke, I wouldn't put a bike on methanol unless it was a drag only bike, strip or dunes. You simply burn through too much of it and you need the throttle to be at least half way open for the power jets (deliver additional fuel) to work... Does that help/answer your questions?

Just to be clear. Venting about blowing up your shit is one thing, we've all been other and done that on cheap builds and mucho $$ builds. But you started this off in an accusatory tone, and then played the I'm gonna name the builder if I don't get my way card. Reason is all good for the post. Your handling of it is what is getting you smacked around a bit. 13 hours is not a fresh build. Some motors don't see but a few hours all year. I'm sure Andy will do his best to be fair....just be careful how you say things in the future. Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD

Without pictures and trying to figure out what went wrong, why are you getting all amped up ready to go after a builder? You have no proof of anything other than what you can see on the outside. AND...after it kicked back hard enough to break a clutch cover, that was your sign something is wrong, not just throwing a band on it (spare cover) and riding it anyways. You popped a motor, you're upset and I get it. But you're already starting to blame a builder without knowing anything. Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD

Tyler's favorite app is "what's locos ass now HQ." He gave it 5 stars... All I'm saying. Although I'm an android guy, apple makes nice stuff. Since I've had my tablet(s), I rarely use my home PC anymore. I will be the first to tell you, there some apps on Apple that blow away android. You can do just about anything on them, from business to gaming. As said tapatalk HD is much better for tablets than the std. Edition. Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD

It may separate if left sitting for periods of time. But if you ask any of the drag race guys that run methanol and castor (have to run castor, won't mix at all otherwise) it stays blended just fine. So if you leave fuel in the tank, shake it up before use...same as fuel in the gas can. That's a disclaimer because eventually it will separate....but if used properly, it'll work just fine. Promise...

I have a few things to say about this... One, if it looks like a shit deal, it's a shit deal. The fact he was "low on gas" yet had that kind of cash to give you was a NUMBER 1 tell tale. Second, you brought your preggo wife with you for a CL deal? To a gas station, late at night, in BFE? Really?

WOW. Who in this business does this to take care of their customers? Glad Chariot is a MI business and in my neck of the woods. Mouse, you've been bad...go to your trap. At this point, you OWE Chariot a future purchase or two just for him being a stand up guy. Glad it got sorted... HMFIC/Goatrapist, this should be moved from roosting room to either Seller Feedback or Sponsor section, IMO

That's where the right builder chimes into play. Smooth power delivery... NOT cub type delivery is where he can maintain traction. Smooth power and torque curve. You should know that... You have a 12 port setup... It's not violent power, just usable power. The tires I've seen used, sticky track tires, will allow wheelies in the rain... From there its rider control. A properly prepped and cut trans (NO, not an override) should shift fine on that bike. Lack of traction is normally the problem on a banshee, std., cut or override tranny. Traction should not be an issue on a road race bike.

Bone stock RD400s weigh 350ish. 330 lbs with modern stuff is easily doable. I actually think his requirements are pretty easy to attain, his budget, however...may not allow it. I guess start out there. There are plenty of aftermarket cylinder setups that can be made to run well. Remember, he said these 600cc 4 strokes are putting out 116HP at the crank. Which means 90 to 100 at the rear tire, give or take. That's not that tough to attain IMO.

Tricked...where are you riding? I'm minutes from Lake St. Clair. Last year, it never froze enough to walk on, let alone ride on... You plan on making it out this way this year? Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD -
Slow brings up a good point, in which I mispoke/wasn't clear in my original post. You want to hit the traps at peak HP RPM, not peak RPM. Motor A may make peak HP at 9700 but rev to 11K...you want to be at the peak HP through the traps...after peak HP RPM, you're slowing down.

I wasn't sure on the exact math, so I didn't offer it up...thanks Finch. But you get the gist of it...509. I think, please don't quote me...the smallest sprocket you can get on a 6 bolt stock banshee rear hub is 38. It might be 39...not sure. I ran a 4 bolt Honda sprocket, so you could run a 36 tooth out back. I never ran smaller than a 44 on my drag bikes, I just got the best deals on the Honda bolt pattern axles. Which, sucked because I had to buy "custom" sprockets bigger than the 44...and I had 43 to 47.

I'm not going to say it'll give you more power..(other than the 1-2 HP advertised due to less drag while spinning.) I'll say they'll allow you to more effectively use the power you have. With any straight line, A to B racing, the goal is to be at the RPM limit of an engine design at the very, very end of the track. In other words, you should be running out of gear going through the traps. If you run out before...you're leaving ET and MPH on the table. Same thing if you're going past the traps. So, it's up to you on what tire size, air pressure and gear ratios work best for you. It's not about case pressure, it's about gearing and room. A big, big motor will blow through gearing available like nothing. The ability to run a sprocket up front that allows your motor to pull is key. You get a big motor (I'm talking big) even a 17, 18 or 19 won't be enough on stock primaries. Or...I'll go the other way. You've got a 19 up front and 38/39 out back and you still run out of gear at the end of the track before you hit the traps. Change primary ratios...and now you'll be able to put enough gear on it to pull through the traps, instead of stopping short. Hope that all makes sense... I'm not a pavement guy, so numbers, gearing are not my thing. But the idea and principles are the same.
-
Good question. It boils down to what size front sprocket you need to run for the motor. If you start getting above 17 ...might be a better idea to get a different ratio. I'm fairly certain you can go up to 19 on front with stock cases..but that's paper thin clearance...and that big of sprockets are harder to find AND more expensive. SlowerThanYou or Tedder can probably give good insight on pavement gearing/setup.
-
On your size motor, OP, not needed to be honest. However, if you're one of those guys that is a firm believer in overkill and insurance (nothing wrong with that...) it sure won't hurt a thing other than your wallet...

Customer satisfaction is the number 1 goal. You being happy is all that matters in the end. Regarding the other types of racing...here's my thoughts. If you are beating the other bikes and winning at your particular track...great.. You have exactly what you need. Here's where that falls apart...in order to be called the fastest, you have to race the fastest. You've done that Tricked...at your venue. Where most of the arguing and ignorance I've seen in this forum is straight line drag racing. People that have never had a drag motor talking about pipes and performance, setup, etc. That's like someone who watches ER Reruns tell their doctor how to do their job. Tricked, you're happy and beating who you need to, all that matters in the end. Good write up. -
You wouldn't know the truth if if smacked you in the face, fucked you in the ass, gave you a dirty sanchez and ate your last burrito. What the fuck are you talking about?

Motor Builder and tuner, Check. Suspension Guru, Check. Master Welder, Check. Damn Gumby, you must have some of the fastest shit out with the best suspension, when you opening up a race shop? Tyler...HMIC, WTF? You moved them where? NO linkie?

Adjusted timming to +4 now it wont rev just idle.

Every hear the term lean is mean? That's it right there....starve it for fuel and oil, and as said...it'll rev up and get away from you. This is VERY evident in Alky motor bikes, because you're throwing twice the fuel at them. -

Ha ha ha.... Try not to run it out of gas...especially important on two strokes. It gets ALL of it's lubrication from the oil in the fuel, as opposed to a 4 stroke. Easy to overlook the easy things. Unless it was an absolute obvious thing you made a mistake on, don't dwell on it.
