  1. You'll need some work to pull that...but, you should have it. If Wiseco pistons are cheaper than Vitos'...I'd go with them. Also...I'd save the money on the CDI and put long rods in as said...get the ignition later. An ignition box also curves your timing, so...be careful with the degree key or plate, whichever you decide to go with... A good port job with the mods you listed will put you there....
  2. Porting will help, too. Don't waste your money on a +4 degree key. Get a timing plate from RickyStator.com. For 35 bucks plus shipping, you don't ever have to worry about shearing a key...at least anymore than you would with a stock key... Here's a gearing calculator to help: http://home.earthlink.net/~gellett/banshee.htm Hitting 90 has more to do to it than just mods, it's tire size and gearing too! +4 timing with 20cc heads may require a little mix of race gas too, depending on your elevation. I'd PM DLNoss and see what he says, or...go to his site. Once you get in the 155LBs and up range...you're on the edge of needing more octane...
  3. Free Bump XRacer...I got stock pipes sitting in MY garage... You've got PM. (Sorry to hijack...Steve....at least it's a free bump...)
  4. I personally saw badassbanshee479's cub motor, 4 mil drag port stroker on gas run at Silver Lake this weekend. Built by Jeff @ Fast. I'm not saying Passion, A&S, Patriot, etc. don't build good motors, they surely do. But, JT's bike was flat out impressive....period. I've never talked to the other guys, either. But, I bought my clutch from Jeff, and I'll say it here again. The customer service he gave me was like I bought a 3K motor from him, not a 90 dollar clutch. I don't feel the need to talk to anyone else. FAST gets my vote...
  5. BrianEB... These guys are right on...I've had K&N's on the back of stock carbs for quite some time. These boys are running aftermarket pipes, too...that's why their mains are up over 300. If you have stock pipes...you wont' go that high. I'm in MI too...you can see my mods in my sig, and it works great. I sometimes switch between my K&N pods and my Toomey 2:1 foam filter ...same jetting. I'd say without knowing the rest of your mods, taking into consideration you probably have aftermarket pipes...you'll end up in the lower to mid 300's with your main on stock carbs at our elevation. If you think removing your airbox makes a difference....get your flywheel lightened and a +4 timing advance plate....even more so!
  6. Our friends make two trips out there. An April or May trip, and a October trip they just took a couple weeks ago. I'm telling you...you would have a blast on that quad...they are 4th, 5th and sometimes 6th gear trails...no tight twisty stuff. I'll let you know for sure!!
  7. My friend I went riding with this last weekend was teetering on the dunes or St. Helen... Neither of us are big on tight, whooped out trails...so, Bull Gap and Gladwin are out. However...If you like fast-wide open trails, Peacock is all for you. Probably less than 2 hours from Traverse City...about a 3 1/2 to 4 hour ride for us Metro-Detroiters...
  8. Suwheet... I saw a few bikes jumping a bowl and getting up pretty good...about 20 up and 30 ft out or so...but didn't see any quads doing this... Would've like to get my own pictures! This was my first time out to the dunes. After a fresh motor build I think I'm going to be hooked...we ride with anywhere between 2 and 15 people...so, next year I can't wait! Bc... are you local to the dunes, Metro-Detroit?
  9. Yeah, like I told JT...I'm not going that extreme with mine...but, it was cool as hell to see that rocket run. watching him pull the front end up still half way down the track was impressive on +8 over... I think in the next few weeks, it'll be tear down time. I'm going to be sending it on your way soon...
  10. Had a good day today.... Jeff W. From F.A.S.T. if you're reading this ....I saw one bas arse bike you built today. He's a member here, and I forgot his handle, I think it was 1bad370shee or something like that. Anyways, I saw a fast sticker on his rear fender, and ran over to meet him. He said you did the whole thing, cubs, 4mil, drag port, shearer's...etc. It flat out got it, and I was very impressed. The only thing he couldn't conquer today was a GSXR 1300 Hayabusa motored banshee...which, isn't even fair to be honest. And...he gave him a great race, it was no blowout.... So...Kudos to you....I'm planning on getting my motor all done up by you soon, it was nice to see one of your bikes run in person though...
  11. Going with my friend tonight to Silver Lake to ride all day tomorrow. I have a 96 shee...as in my avitar, and he has an 04 TRX450R. We'll be in a Red Dodge Hemi RAM...hope to see some of you there... Come up and say hi... DJ
  12. I'm looking for a good dealer for Amsoil in SE Michigan. Detroit Area... I'm going to try their gear oil for the tranny/clutch in my shee. Any place local I can go pick it up?
  13. Most of MI is under 1000 ft. There are mountains in the UP that are higher...that's about it. The legal trails in MI are all under 1000...
  14. Stock cc heads are 22. He is only going to a 21cc head. Plus...he's at 1300 to 1500 feet...lowing the squeeze just a tad. Compression has more to do with the need for higher octane than timing does, unless you're going like +8 or higher. You're not even sure what your compression is going to be yet...only theoretical numbers. I'd get it together, warm it up....hold the throttle wide open and check the compression. Over 155PSI...mix race gas at 50/50 the most. I have a feeling you're going to be at or around 150 or a little less. I'd stop worrying about what your compression **might be** until you get it together and find out **what the actual number** is... Best of luck!!
  15. Double check with DLNoss...it's his head. But, I think you're wasting your money on race gas for that. Premium pump gas should be fine.
  16. 450's...yep, no slouch. But a Craptor? C'mon... Unless it's got a ton of goodies...you should walk that. Usually the four strokes get out of the hole better, since they hook better. Nature of a four stroke.... Your shee also has about 50 lbs on that YFZ...too. I see porting in your near future...Jeff's a helluva guy at FAST. I can't wait to get mine done by him...hopefully soon.
  17. I would offer to help you...but I just mapped out where Thamesford is in Ontario... It'll be cheaper to get your local dealer to look at it rather than pay for the gas and worry about crossing the border to the US... I think a compression test would tell you what you need to know. From the pic in your avatar...looks like a 96.. A fine vintage indeed... Good luck, let us know what the stealership says... A fresh top end is fairly easy if you have just a little mechanical apptitude...
  18. Less than 1000 Feet. http://www.netstate.com/states/geography/mi_geography.htm
  19. Talk to minkia who sells the pipes. (Ray V.) He offers a demo set to test, if you'll pay for shipping. I'd bet he still has 'em. They are cosmeticaly flawed, and one of the first sets (the weld beads are not ground down or smooth) I tried 'em...and didn't like 'em with my mods in my sig. If I were going to build a strict drag quad or dune quad, I'd give them and Shearers a serious thought. But...if you plan on play racing and some trail riding, they're a little too much of a top end pipe in my opinion. I'm happy with the all around performance of my T5s, and I got them because I plan on porting in the off season... Peak horsepower doesn't mean squat to a trail rider if it's in a very narrow RPM range...and comes on too late.... I'm not saying they're bad pipes...they just weren't for me. Three more things...forget about shutting off your gas petcock if it is stock and the bike is hot. You need to get a screwdriver to get to it...or wait till shee cools down. Two...changing your spark plugs is more difficult...not impossible, but not as easy... Three... if you move around a lot on your quad (trail riding...) it feels like two brick cynder blocks under your gas tank hitting your knees. I suppose you could get used to this...but, I kept hitting mine. I'm average height at about 6 foot...I wear jeans to ride mostly...and almost burned me legs a couple times... They will give you more top, no doubt..and pull longer. I just didn't like the pipe before it got there. But...they do look suwheet and sound good too!
  20. Do yourself a favor...leave that key in the package, and take it back. For 20 bucks, you still have to remove your flywheel to replace the key. For about 42 bucks with shipping, you can get an adjustable timing plate from Ricky Stator, that has 0% chance of ever shearing and ruining a riding trip... You will be fine with Premium pump gas... If you shave the head...or get a Coolhead or Noss head and smaller domes than you might have to up the octane. Mine runs great with 92 to 94 octane gas...all day long. Here's that timing plate: http://www.rickystator.com/pages/Yamaha_Ba...ming_plate.html D'oh...just re-read your post. How much does that GYT advance your timing? You might have to go +2... You're only slightly above stock on the dome. Dave Noss is a great guy...you might want to PM him with your specs and see what he says about race gas. You MIGHT have to run a mix (25 to 50% race to pump) depending on how much that ignition advances it...
  21. It's soft aluminum...so, if you have a die grinder and a scotchbrite pad, that'll work just fine. I hit each of the 3 mounting spots on the plate for about 5 to 10 seconds each...fit like a charm. Nice thing is...once it's all back together, you don't have to take off the flywheel to adjust it...just get a quality open end wrench, loosen the bolts a turn or so...and tap the edge of one of the ears with a wooden or plastic handle... Coupled with a lightened flywheel, it's a great mod!
  22. I would just double check and make sure the flywheel and everything behind it is tight and torqued properly... Should be ok. Your motor spins up AND spins down quicker now due to less drag...mine runs a little different (much better) but it was a little adjustment for me to get used to.
  23. Agree... 340 is too rich. I have 330's in mine and it's on that edge of the rich side...I think 310 or 320's would be a hair lean for as much dragging with my buddies as I do. Stock carbs with no reeds/reed cages, your stock needles should be in the middle... I'd try 27.5 pilot, 1.5 turns out on the air screws....
  24. What is done to it other than the pipes?
  25. yeah...no shit. You got full coverage...right? We'll send you the videos...don't worry...
