Tusk Clutch Kit / Heavy duty Springs
dajogejr replied to Satsol67's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Another for FAST's clutch... If you're gonna buy an EBC or Barnett, Jeff's is only a few bucks more and worth it. Since you trail ride, you could easily use three HD springs and 3 stock springs. His clutch put up with a year of abuse on my stock motor, piped shee last year, and is holding up fine in my 4mil cub this year. About 20 dyno runs and 30 plus passes yesterday at the 300ft sand drags, it is going purrfect! However..you did say "save up for" a Tusk, which is about half of a normal clutch getup...so, if money is an issue, get the Tusk if you can afford to wait for it. If not, spend a few more bucks and get Jeff's...it's worth the few extra $$ IMO -
If you kicked it until the needle stops going, the tester is bad, period. Keep in mind, if the threaded part of the tester is not as long as your spark plug threads, you'll be a few pounds low, too. That's head volume that would normally be dispaced when a plug is in there...

Yep, I agree with Wes. Generally...at sea level, you'd be "around" 330 to 350 mains with that setup. Drop one size main for roughly every 1000ft. Again, as Wes said, it's how your bike runs with your jetting...period. No one can tell you exactly what you should be running, they normally can get you close...then it's on you...
-
Very, Very good point. It normally takes a good 10 to 15 rapid kicks to get the reading. You either tested wrong, or the tester is garbage...unless you're 10,000 feet above sea level... You should probably be around 130PSI or so...21cc will raise the compression, and porting may lower it just a tad...
-
If you went from stock pipes to ANY aftermarket pipes, I hope you went up more than just one on the main. Y2K...help us to help you. List all your mods, elevation and temps you ride in. We'll take it from there.... Dual carbs are not always ideal for all riders/riding locale...If I were to build a trail shee, that's probably what I'd go with to be honest...

The open end should point towards the back of the bike if it's on top, front of the bike if it's on bottom. Think about the direction of the chain as it travels, and the open end should be pointing towards the other direction.

Jetting Change for flywheel/timing advance
dajogejr replied to LiftdT4R's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
Depending on the length of the race, weight and skill of the riders, you should be KILLING that 400EX. I'd say you're on the right track. If you take the lid off, you need a pro flow adapter so the filter seals correctly against the airbox. Or...you could just cut out the top of the lid, leaving the front piece there to seal it...but, what happens if you ever want to put it back on??? 280 or 290 will be good without a lid... I don't think it'll be worth a bike length, the timing and flywheel should, though... Those little 400EXs are good off the line, but that's it. -
The ring is what you go by, and it sounds perfect. Time to work on your launch, gearing, tire pressure and tire diameter... Boysen reeds are ok for replacements, you will barely notice a difference, if at all. Get some porting on that motor...that's where all your power is.

Jetting Change for flywheel/timing advance
dajogejr replied to LiftdT4R's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
What...you expect me to actually work on a Sunday and scroll up? Sheesh... Sorry...didn't re-read that. I think 290 is a bit rich if you're running with a lid, normally close to sea level and average temps like that, 260 or so is the norm, but...each bike is different. I would say you're pretty safe with that for a flywheel and timing bump. Just check the plugs to be 100% sure... Have fun, you're gonna notice a whole new feel about your bike when you do these two minor things!! -
Huh? Do you have any information written by a reputable source? I'd hate to see a plane go down because they had bad gaskets.... Sounds like horse dung. People run AV gas cause it's cheaper...but not usually as much octane as leaded race gas. The difference in price for AV gas vs. VP U-14 is substantial, you might as well run leaded race gas for the price of that stuff...

Jetting Change for flywheel/timing advance
dajogejr replied to LiftdT4R's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
True...more fuel actually cools the motor a tad, so...advancing timing may make it run a little hotter. As said, you might have to...not always. Any idea of what size main I should be running. All my info is in my sig and the first post. Like I said, I beleive I have a 290 main, but I can't remember. Thanks, I see pipes and filters. What elevation, Temps and do you have an airbox, lid, clamp on filter??? -
I think I still have mine in a box in my garage, yamakid. I've gone lights out...so, If I still have mine, it's yours for the cost of shipping...probably 5 to 8 bucks... Would you like me to see if I can find it?

Most of the time, you get the 4mil crank with 5 mil longer rods... that gives you 421 with a 68mm bore.
-
Screw that....if he's financing it, we're goin to a nudie bar we can park our shees outside of in the parking lot... Drinks and table dances on night... After I have a few, I'll give you a lapdance, Brooke...so you don't feel out of place... WE'll leave the shemales for your lapdances, night...

Jetting Change for flywheel/timing advance
dajogejr replied to LiftdT4R's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
Timing and compression normally doesn't effect jetting. Plug chop it to be sure... I didn't have to change my jetting at all when I went to +4 and a lightened flywheel... -
Well...true Muslims may want to send us back to the 9th century..but, the radicals who call themselves muslims who don't follow their book, the Koran or whatever...adapt to our technology as you said. They may not be college educated...but I think you'll agree...they are very, very street smart...so to say. Yeah...both of us are pretty close to Southfield. I have Chaldean friends, a few of them, and if you ask them, they love Bush, Love him taking Saddam out of power, etc. They are very Americanized... I love hearing people around here bitch about how we shouldn't be over there, how we treat them, etc... If they had it so good over there, whey didn't they stay? They came here..period. Now...learn our customs, speak our language, and when in Rome, do as the Romans do. On a total side note here...am I the only one disgusted that damn near every phone call you make is "Press 1 for Spanish, 2 for English...".... Just makes me sick...period. How bout your local ATM...Espanol or English. If I traveled overseas or out of country...I'd learn or keep my mouth shut, period....

You guys are all sorry asses. I bought this and picked it up today (Since I live in MI). I have a lightweight motor and chassis...and it just dyno'ed today at 280 HP on 87 octane... I'm gonna be whoopen all your asses... Your Daddy Shee

You want a tan ring 2mm thick at the base of the insulator if you did the plug chop right. There were some VForce 2's for sale cheap here...me thinks...

This is actually a worthless post...period. This is what you're asking: Who makes the best: Car Truck Beer Coffee Airline to fly Place to visit Time of year Season Climate See what I mean? The list goes on and on. There are back yard builders, big name builders and everyone in between. You forgot: A&S, K&T, Redline, RDZ, Patriot, Passion, SSR, Tyson, Grand River, the list goes on and on and on and on.... You basically want to know who can give you the most power for the buck, right? You do the homework.... Read some posts, call each of them, and compare how they treat you on the phone (if they even answer) and their pricing.... I'm not trying to be a dick...but this post will either get you no answers, or 10 pages of answers to whoever thinks is best....there is no ONE porting GOD....

For 20 bucks it's just not worth reusing those orings unless you're in a pinch... Get some orange hi-temp RTV and put a thin layer on each and every Oring. This will not only help keep them in place when reassembling it, but it will seal better as well. And get that torque wrench. I normally torque in sequence 10, 15 and then finally 20 to 22 ft. lbs...

Going from K&N no lid to PODS. Worth Switching?
dajogejr replied to jbooker82's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
About 2 to 4 sizes on stock carbs, not sure about the PJs though... How do your plugs look Josh? Are your K&N flters overoiled? It's just possible your port job wants a fatter main... You should at the very least get as goof of performance, if not a little better. Too bad I didn't know you needed spacers, you could've bought those along with the sheilds... They would've been a cheap alternative to buying that Boss intake, although a built in crossover is nice! -
Canada has rocks, mud, snow and no sand!
dajogejr replied to swag's topic in General Banshee Discussion
I LOVE the fact they all have Ohlins or Elkas....I'm jealous!! Swag, here is the difference. If you get a straight edged paddle, they will accelerate better at the expense of some turning. A V Blade style paddle will turn better, but will not dig in as good as a straight edge. Since you're all used to MX...and none of you look to be drag racers, I'd opt for a set of V Edge paddles... -
Ok...you're banned again... I'd settle for ANY thought at this point.... :yankyank: On second thought...nevermind, ban me too...

If you ONLY have pipes, K&N filter, Reeds, and down 1cc on the head (stock is 22cc) which is what you've listed...and it said 66HP, I'm not saying you are full of shit, I'm saying that dyno is way off or broken. You could have the best bolt on parts direct from Yamaha...you aint getting over 50Hp on that motor until you start porting it, period. I'm not debating the fact the dyno said that, but I'm telling you with 100% certainty it was way off, peroid. Not to mention, I think when Ricky Charmichael rode for Honda a few years back, HIS 450 only made 58 or 62HP... RC got parts Joe Byrd could only DREAM of... The forks on his bike probably cost more than Joe Byrd's whole quad...

I am not a religious person, first off. I grew up catholic, but have long jumped off that bus since I was young(er). The middle east has a hatred for the western world that is hard to fathom. If you think racism in the south was bad 50 years or 100 years ago...that's like Sesame Street compared to over there. Where we use religion often as a punchline to a joke (C'mon...priests, altar boys...we all know it)...they live it, breathe it, etc. I have two fears...nothing can be done to stop the fighting over there. Sooner or later, someone is gonna hit the button and a nuke's gonna fly. it's only a matter of time. And...these terrorists are getting smarter and smarter. People tend to think they're just dumb arabs with a towel on their head and no idea of the civilized world. That's our first mistake. They are very educated and unpredictable. I truly fear we'll have a few more attacks on our own soil within the next 10 years. All these tree huggers bitch and moan about the US tightening up security at the ever known leaking borders... Guess what, we're losing that one too. I say warn 'em once, then shoot 'em to send the message.... And Brooke, why do I feel shitdriver will be here soon spewing BS all over this 95 page thread...
