  1. The Pro Design head takes longer studs. OEM studs won't work. If you know how long they are, you could probably get them somewhere else.
  2. There shouldn't be a lip on the tube that the bearings go in. Those needle bearings are encased with metal, so maybe that's what you are seeing. The bearings do not come out very easy at all, especially if they are completely worn out, or coming apart.
  3. If the damage isn't really bad, there are places that can weld them. Then you can use a die grinder on the welds, to clean them up.
  4. I should have mentioned this earlier, but when adjusting the air mixture screws, make sure the motor is running, adjust both the same, and give the motor 20-30 seconds to adjust to the changes. If 1/4 of a turn helps, which it should, but it's still not quite right, give it another 1/4 of a turn, and so on. If you get over 2.5 turns open, then you need the 27.5 pilots.
  5. You need the 27.5 pilots. Try opening up the air mixture screws on each carb, 1/4 turn at a time, and see if you can get rid of the rich condition, that's causing it to run bad. Make sure both air mixture screws are adjusted the same.
  6. You have to remove the main, and pilot jets to clean them properly. Also, make sure to squirt carb cleaner through all the passages in the carbs to make sure they are clean.
  7. You are playing with an unknown quantity of gas, doing it that way. Just rejet the carbs, and do it the right way.
  8. I've had the VF 2's almost since they came out, and never once, has a screw backed out on me. That's even after replacing the petals once. The only thing is, the replacement reeds are easier to find for the VF 3's. If it's not broke, don't fix it.
  9. You should always replace both pistons, rings, and gaskets at the same time. If you do one side, and not the other, it'll never run as good as it could, and you'll be rebuilding it a lot sooner.
  10. I replaced mine with some lighter springs from the local hardware store, and they have worked fine for the last 5 years.
  11. A bad crank seal on the clutch side.
  12. I'm guessing that you broke a rod. OUCH!!!!!!!!!! Time for a 4 mil.
  13. Just think about it this way. Nobody really has any money right now, so it's a horrible time to be selling stuff. Anything like new, or used is going really cheap around here. Too many people selling things, because they don't have a job, and not many people with the money to buy it. Don't sell.
  14. Try some new spark plug boots. They are cheap, and easy to change.
  15. Take a screw, and run it several threads deep into the metal of the seal, grab it with a pair of pliers, and pull the seal out.
  16. I called the idiot out also, but no reply yet.
  17. Having the air mixture screws turned out too far, or too small of a pilot jet will cause hard starting when the motor is cold. Let us know what size the pilot jets are, and how far the air mixture screws are opened up, so somebody can help you.
  18. If crud keeps plugging both pilot jets, it's time to drain, and flush out your gas tank. There should be two screens in the tank, that need to be cleaned also. If you have that much dirt in your tank, that it keeps plugging your pilot jets, it's only going to be a short time, before that dirt clogs up the inline filter, causing a lean condition, and very possibly blowing up the new top end. Spend the extra time to fix it right, so you don't have bigger problems, costing you more money, later on.
  19. Take the carbs off, one at a time, pull the mains, and pilot jets out, and clean them with carb cleaner. FMF pipes seem to like a 27.5 pilot, and the stock one is 25.
  20. The backfire at idle is caused by a lean condition. Most people run 27.5 pilots in their stock carbs, with FMF pipes. Turn both airscrews back in to 1.5 turns, and see if the backfire problem is taken care of. It might be wise to check everything over for air leaks also, because changing main jets couldn't have caused the lean idle condition, unless something got messed up, like an intake boot, or a gasket.
  21. Two strokes can, and will run backwards. That's probably what happened.
  22. It also sounds like your swingarm pivot bearings are shot. Put a grease zerk in for those bearings also.
  23. Use this stuff. http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores...uctId=100665892 Just spray it on, and the rust runs off. It's easy, and safe to use.
  24. Why don't you guys grow up, and quit trying to blame FMF for your problem. It's actually Yamaha's fault. Each frame is a bit different, and the motor in each frame doesn't set exactly in the same place, hence the problems with mounting pipes. Some have problems with the left side, and some with the right side. Just deal with it, and figure out a way to fix the problem, instead of complaining. Have a nice day.
