A clymers manual a set of wrenches, sockets,a flywheel puller, a clutch holder, I have allen bolts on mine. And a area to lay your stuff out. When you split the cases you'll probably say "damn that was easy"
The magnets come off the flywheel?? Out they hit the pick up? Did you use a 3 jaw puller to get the fly wheel off? The crank could be bent, did you check it with a dial indicator for run out? I'm still kind of confused by what you said.
Well there you go, I've been told where you were at is the cut off point. But weren't you saying this motor is running like shit?? This might be the problem
A good cleaning and some RTV. You can use 3 bond, yamabond, I heard some one used hondabond too. Don't use tools to clean the cases. A decent bead is all you need. Not to much, it can get all over the moving parts.
I always had luck with an impact gun. Just zap it in one shot. ALWAYS USE A TORQUE WRENCH FOR REASSEMBLY!! Follow the pattern in the manual. Other then that, this is one of the easiest engines to work on.
If you never touched the motor and that part is missing,I would want to take a peek inside to see if there is anything else that may have been over looked.
Your best bet is to swap with KNOWN good working electrical parts. a business card is a good gap for the fly wheel and pick up. And I forgot what it was but people always check one part with a meter and it test good. But is always the problem.
