Time will tell...

Did you unplug the plugs on the TORS boxes on the carbs? I am trying to rule out a jacked wiring issue. MIght do it to make sure. Yes, idle screws work regardless. TORS box would have no affect on idle performance. you have something else going on.
-
Sometimes this Inet tuning is a PITA. Something sounds fishy. I would just like to hear the problem to determine if this is fuel or ignition related. If you have not tried this, unplug the 2 wire connectors on top of the TORS AND the black box just above the LH exhaust pipe. B

Yes, choke hose between carbs is OE. Setting idle can be done several ways but we generally back both screws out until slides are bottomed out and adjust from there by mic'ing the slides. One thing you have to watch is just because they are ok at idle, does not mean anything at half throttle. This is why vacuum testing is important for good tuning. You should also hear the slides tap down at the same time when you chop throttle. B

You should certainly be able to find a bad cable before replacing it. Remember also that there is cabling inside the TORS boxes. If they are sticking and not letting the slides come down right, that is a problem. There are contacts inside the TORS. You should be able to remove the main throttle cable and inspect for fraying and such. If there is a problem, it could be found in 5min. If you only have one side idling, there is an issue there. I am going off your statements mind you. If you have a plugged jet, it will act similar but as soon as you said there was an improvement when unplugging the TORS, I went to throttle cables and slide balance. The way the TORS works is there is a switch in the thumb throttle that indicates you are off throttle. If the slides do not hit their switches at the same time to indicated they are "off" too, this will enable a ground loop to cut the ignition. ie, sticky cable, bad cable, carb sync, ALL get put on the "junk TORS" bandwagon . It was a good idea, just needed more refinements. B

Just replied with your answer. 15yrs of ATV repairing. trust me  B

TORS is doing it's job. You have a bad throttle cable or need to sync your carb slides. Again, the TORS is working. Probably cutting ignition when you chop throttle and when you get back in it, it pops as it picks back up. Either way, I feel confident in my diagnosis. Brandon

I don't think promoting gang violent is an acceptable way to deal with the situation.

Looks pretty easy to me!!

What are your machine requirement minimums for small run pistons? ie, can a mill-turn lathe be slowed down and pampered along to get the job done for low quantity mfg? I will admit holding .0001" OD will be tough. I have, however, been told never to grind in the lathe but we have done it about 5000 times now on an aero part and hold .0001" on that part. It is, however, a round part. GD grinding is a whole nuther industry in itself! We thought about trying to obtain forging blanks to have on hand for experimental piston mfg. Likely not worth the investmet since the piston only covers one aspect. Rings, wrist pin, and clips need to be sourced or bought too. No wonder companies focus solely on pistons, and nothing else.

what should i do with this cylinder?
blowit replied to official_style's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Nof off the top of my head, no. Even if PNs are different, there is likely only minimal differences. I recommend hitting up a YZ rider or dealer on that question. -

Nearly any competent bike shop can inspect and repair that. Keep in mind we have found many shops will not take the time or have the skills to properly measure a bore and just say "bore it" and cost you a bore job. Your bore may be fine but no clue without measurements. An engine machine shop should also be able to help you. I would recommend just getting a used head to reduce the complexity of this repair. Until the bore is measured, it is only a guess if the cyl needs bored. It is not plated. That is a CI sleeve from the earlier days. Everything looks salvageable but you need to mic the bore first. Head will need recut or just find a used one from egay. Brandon -
Your best bet is you determine all the critical dims of your existing pistons and see if wiseco can match it up with something close. You may also need to go back with OEM pistons if they are available. Nothing wrong with cast pistons! Having pistons custom made would likely be out of SIGHT in price. The price indicated already would not even touch what some mfgs would charge that actually make pistons. 2 stroke throws even more in the mix here. Trust me, if all else fails, you will haveto talk with wiseco or someone and get a comparable piston from a jetski, snow ski, etc. brandon

I did not realize this Loco. I would say that unless someone can offer FIA (finite element analysis) on a piston design, eccentricity of the pistons would just be a guess and making them concentric would just be a mistake. This does not even account for the forging process which is certainly not like cutting from billet. We have designed a few but the equipment would be a LARGE investment, not to mention the tolerance we would need to hold. In order to maintain a .0001" tolerance, you need a machine that repeats at about .00003". Thermal comp of the machine, ambient temp, humidity, etc, all play a roll here too. Brandon

RU you a shop? do you make pistons? PM me if you like. We are a full CNC mfg facility but piston mfg requires specialized equipment we don;t want to invest in right now. Thanks Brandon

I prefer KC strip, rare, on Apple wood only flame

I can't give everything away  I have been there. That is for sure. Like trying to grind a hard shell off a stick of butter.

There is a tricky on that Nicasil stuff  B

What day is it again??????????

I just have to comment on the police. here. I think someone here commented a while back "but who do you turn to when your shit gets stolen???" Well, this is pretty typical. It was also said that they do not do any heroics like save lives because pay is too low to care, don't recover stolen property. That just leaves me wondering, what do they do? Besides rail roading people that will actually pull the car over and accept responsibility. Remember, criminals don't have any money. Go after the up standing citizens that can pay the fines!! Just another another sour note for me with the cops. The day they do something "for" me is the day I change my mind. I am not going to hold my breath. By the way, we use trip wire detection around here. It works. Hell, when we were in grade school we were doing this to keep from getting TP'ed. Basic K-mart trip wire is made with a mouse trap, 9V battery, Estes rocket engine ignitor, and a can of Black cats. You want to see someone shit their drawers.........Guess we are a little pyro over here but never had anything stolen.... You guys give me inspiration. K, I am done now.

Vision X Solstice Led Lights ( DC Conversion )
blowit replied to Snopczynski's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Not at all. I just cannot figure it out. Since we do a bunch of work with LEDs, we have only had one reason to use PWM for LED lighting. I was wondering if this is giving the light a variable intensity for high and low performance. No, I am not totally sold on LED lighting yet as I do not think they quite meet the candle power of HID but to be honest, I have every confidence LED will take over at some point. Probably more so when LED becomes cheaper than HID lighting and advantageous for OEMs. Some people are probably closer to the technology bubble than we are though. I like the simplicity of LED and shock performance is good making them a certain candidate for off road use. By the way, I really like the modular configuration of those lights. I can see where certain industries could really like that idea. B -
Vision X Solstice Led Lights ( DC Conversion )
blowit replied to Snopczynski's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
K, Snop, where did you get the PWM info for the lights? I am still trying to find a good reason why someone would put a micro controller in a headlight unless the intensity is to be adjustable. Just seems a more complicated way to go. There are much easier solutions for allowing for a 9-50V variable input. B -
The indication was that something simply slid out. Not sure what happened but sounds like it is as the shop now. New crank, pistons, and bore will probably get it going again.

ANYONE INTERESTED IN A DIY BANSHEE PORTING TUTORIAL
blowit replied to blowit's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
One thing we have to consider is the type that will be able to reproduce viable results. Just a guess here but if a guy does not know what the piston is, maybe porting is better left to a pro.
