Soon To Be Owner First Mods Should Be?

The Clymer is a given -
okay, cool! Hehe.. i've got feeler gauges, no problem. Wouldn't a dime be a lil thicker than .02 though? Good idea though... just have to bust out the feelers. Didn't know it was as easy as 2 screws holding it on Thanks for the info.. it is greatly appreciated! Now I can't wait for the stator or plate.. hopefully no filing needed though.

Hehe... Well I don't know whats in the powerplant.. thats the thing. Been having too much fun going way too fast. The sprockets and chain were pretty toasted when I got it so I threw on new stock geared sprockets -- 14/41. It just spins spins spins, but is sick fast on hard ground or concrete (got some ol worn holeshots for that very reason!). I dunno. Hate to "downgrade" and have a problem but don't really want to rip it apart right now and find what is truly in the powerplant. It definitely is not stock with some pipes and intake and carbs thrown on. Porting from hell? possibly. Other than that... dunno....

Here's the deal. Just bought my Banshee a couple months back. Its my second one -- the first was a slightly modified 91. Had Toomey pipes and the intake and ran real nice, pretty typical. This one has the Toomeys and ProDesign w/ K&N and it runs insanely faster. I don't know why. It *does* have 36mm carbs. They're Mikuni. They were 34's (I believe) and were bored to 36mm (maybe 35.5.. my ruler is relatively accurate..hehe) The engine has an insane port job, according to him. Haven't really looked at the porting yet but I have (and have misplaced...) a piece of paperwork showing an expensive and extensive port job on the engine (serials matched up just fine). It still runs fine on pump gas but *really* likes AV gas. I haven't ripped the powerplant down to the point of identifying anything super that would require the 36's though. Ah... its confusing. Anyone got any ideas? Might just have to tear it to pieces eventually and put some pics on here and have people tell me WTF is going on In the meantime... enjoying the speed. Wishing I hadn't misplaced the paperwork. Wondering what is lurking in the powerplant. Gonna go on a paperwork hunt later tonight...

Pipes and an intake (or just a K&N). You can drop the airbox lid and get some good airflow. If those don't break yer wallet... consider some of the minor stuff like a stainless steel water pump impeller cause the stocker will probably break eventually. -
On the topic of clutches... how are those hydraulic kits? The magura jack kits, in particular. Does this totally eliminate cable breakage and similar, or are there other items that occasionally need replacing?

I took a quick look through my "kind-of-a-service-manual" here at work.. I see the whole pickup coil deal and it is pretty straight forward to adjust? It didn't have the "howto" on adjusting it unfortunately.. Hopefully minimal tools needed
-
Any trick to adjusting the pickup coil? I've never done that...hehehe.. My RS 200w stator and adjustable plate should be here today or tomorrow Gonna start it at +2 for now since still on pump gas.

Well, if the clutch is stuck engaged you won't be able to turn the flywheel when the quad is in gear. Might want to tear that clutch out when you have a few minutes and make sure everything is in it in the right order. Haven't ripped a Banshee clutch out in a long time so I don't remember how many wear and friction plates there are but.. get your manual and make sure everything is in there right. When you pull the lever, is there tension? e.g., does it feel the same as before this problem happened, or is it really loose and easy to pull?
-
Yeah.. the foam deal would work if you're worried about getting water and such in it. When I got mine it had a couple small vents in the airbox lid... I'm just like.. whatever! Dropped that lid quick and never looked back

Play around with the different settings on that multimeter. The 20M setting will probably work fine for that last one -- it just depends on how many decimal places it shows. The 200 setting might work just as well if it goes out to 2 decimal points (i.e., 182.88) since that's all you need. The multimeter will read the same amount either way -- most of 'em just use the different ranges as a way of placing the decimal point in a different location and giving you more accuracy where you need it -- either in really large numbers or really small numbers

Yep. You can throw any sized bulbs you want in there but if your stator can't push 'em, they'll actually put out less light than smaller bulbs that your stator *can* push. The quality of the lights is a huge thing, also. Keep in mind that the PIAA may have not been adjusted, or that there may have been other things in the background (e.g., rewound stator, battery) that weren't readily apparent. Better quality lights should almsot always be better, but only if they're adjusted right and pushed by the right amount of juice
-
Yep, Motion Pro here too. Of course.. haven't tried the others but... the Motion Pro is nice.

2500 for the quad, and about 700 in parts for now. But... when I bought mine, it needed a new chain and sprockets, cables, skid plate, and more. Plus the RS 200w stator and some new lights didn't help. But... not going to keep track in the future. I don't want to look at it any differently

What Is The Best Terrain You Like To Banshee On ?
nater006 replied to xt45's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Dunes are a good time, though most of my time is spent in orchards. Nice grassy riding Some woods mixed into it, also. Just gotta watch out for trees! -
I just have an old stainless steel measuring cup. Its got markings for 1/2 cup on it also so its really easy to get a pretty accurate mix. Plus it rinses out easy with gas Plus it was free

I can help you with the first half... You want the setting that's close to the Ohms you're expecting to get. The K is just a fancy way of saying "put 3 zeroes here" and the M is just a way of saying "put 3 zeroes in front of the value (and a decimal point..)". If you have 3K ohms, it is 3000. If you have 3M ohms, it is .0003 ohms. If you're expecting to get a value between say 3 and 20 ohms, set it to the 200 setting. If you're expecting to get a value between 0 and 1 (e.g., .000x) set it to the 20M setting. It'll measure the same at any setting -- however, the accuracy returned may be severly rounded off if you're using the wrong setting. If you're measuring something thats .032 Ohms, having it set to check in the 200K section will just round it to "0" on your readout probably. Sure thats rounded off relatively accuratly but if the allowable range is like +/- .002, well... just seeing a 0 kinda sucks! you get the idea... Good luck!

Oh man, not what I want to hear. I just ordered the RS 200w stator and adjustable plate. If it just needs a lil filing, thats cool. Sounds like the install is kinda interesting though....

Holyman, Tractor oil? Guessing... hydraulic oil? How's that work? I have ATF type F in mine at the moment... seemed to be a popular choice.

Figured Out What Was Wrong With My Tranny
nater006 replied to got1banshee's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Dang... Mine's got a very hard-to-find neutral. Can't wait till its time to tear this thing down. Hopefully they didn't get you too bad on the new parts though? -
If you're flushing it, don't forget the two drainbolts on the block. It takes a lil less than 3 qts usually, if you've done a good job draining it.
-
Not having any super good drilling tools at my disposal, I just spent the $35 and got the adjustable plate from Ricky Stator. But, thats a great idea there! By the way... since you folks obviously know about timing... sorry to steal the thread but.. with porting, etc, whats the max you'd want to advance the timing to still run on pump gas? (94 octane). Just don't want to blow a hole in a piston...

Service manual says 15mm or .6".. brugal is right.
-
To me they're just about the size I want. Eventually I'll probably end up with the small ones but.. the stockers aren't bad sized. The larger PIAA/Hella ones are fine, too, but I don't want to get into much over 6". Something around the stocker size would be great. Dunno.. just a preference thing I guess. Nothing bad Just not wanting to get anything much larger, and the smaller ones are nice but not really my fav at this point. The HID would be a lil too expensive for me at this point. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Yup. I want a set of those shift forks too. Read some stuff about those and how they improve the shifting and would love to do that mod.. if I could find a set
