  1. happy birthday Brooke! and yeah.. to the rest of ya's, agreed on the dirtrider comments. hehe
  2. any good small to medium sized jumps?
  3. ...when I was teaching the gf to ride.. when she stalled it and hadn't mastered kicking it over yet, I'd kick it backwards (like the R) from standing next to it. man was that easy. But, once you learn to kick a CR500 over successfully... the shee is *easy*
  4. Its the 4.3L, right? They're good engines. I have a few bones to pick with the 4L60E transmissions but... the engines themselves are pretty good. But, have seen more than a few sticky thermostats (including new ones). Glad the noise was just a plug wire... If it makes you feel better... first time I did my plugs, I hated the middle one on the drivers side bank. Had to disconnect the intermediate shaft (steering) to get it out. Somehow in all the blah of having to deal with the intermediate shaft I forgot to hook one of the plug wires back up. Drove down the road and was a little ticked off when it was clearly missing. Simple fix and a smile..
  5. Have heard good things about Tony Doukas cranks. Anyway, working on the crank isn't something you can do yourself as the stocker isn't really rebuildable. Your best bet, by far, price-wise, is to get a new/rebuilt from TD cranks or similar. I dunno what to tell ya about the +4. If you're looking to just drop one in, you'll need a 2mm spacer (base plate) and an extra base gasket. Not sure how well it works with stock porting though.
  6. You might be looking at a hosed (no pun intended) water pump. Or your thermostat might be sticking... new or old, I've seen many a thermostat stick. Lucky for me, mine stuck open on my '96 so it just never got past like 145 degrees in the winter and took forever at that But, that would account for those exact symptoms.
  7. Hehe not a worry... just had to be a picky person
  8. For the *ultimate* cleaning experience... boot into safe mode and run them. Works wonders... Ad-Aware is my fav, then Spybot... Hijack-this is good, as is CW Shredder (for some stuff). Between those 4, you can kill anything.
  9. I thought it was... "Honey, do you think KFC is still open?" in Old School..
  10. Scrap the stock head. Get a Noss head or Cool head. Then you can dump in slightly smaller domes with it and get more power out of your pump gas (or race gas). When you get the crank out, get it welded so it doesn't come apart in the future. Probably the best preventative fix you can do on the shee, period...
  11. Get the crank welded, fo sho. Otherwise when it eventually grenades you'll not be very happy. You can get the head milled, or get a Noss head or Cool head with smaller-than-stock domes. As for carbs... whoever is doing the porting should be able to recommend carbs to you. Everyone has different recommendations.
  12. Only problem might be getting your cycle endorsement. Had to be 18 here in MI to get mine. But.. if you buy a used one, and don't get collision, insurance is not too bad. Mine's a 93 so I don't bother as they wouldn't give me beans for it. But, it does sound like a jetting issue now that you've got fresh seals, a fresh top end, fresh port job, and the whole 9 yards. Once you get it jetted and broken in, you'll just be like.. "woah". Did Jim make any jetting recommendations?
  13. If I had a welder I'd do it... looks like hella good fun. anyone wanna weld me up a set?
  14. Yup, found out about that when I tried painting my CR500 tank and it all bubbled up. They *do* make sticker kits with pinholes in them all over, like the one that came off my CR500, which seem to work well on tank plastic. I got the 5.6gal IMS tank (yellow). Seems to be nice, just need a 1" spacer for the bars now. But yeah, as everyone else mentioned.. its fugly.
  15. You'd also have to deal with creating enough amperage to run the pump. A high-output stator would be a start but... I don't think its really worth it.
  16. Yeeeshhhhhhhhh chill! I'm not insulting you and you go off about how you think I don't know what ISDS is, and telling me I have some catching up to do. But, you know, its so easy to insult someone over the internet when you have *no clue* what their background is, what they currently do, etc. Whatever... either way, I'm not insulting you. So anyway, now that that's done with.. And, yes, point made on the hard drives, but when you do an entire variety of stuff from web development to gaming to compiling applications -- even unzipping the 40MB file of a bazillion files of kernel source -- a fast drive is a world of difference! I have a buttload of *NIX machines I maintain, and when it comes kernel upgrade time.. man do the drives make a difference! And for a lot of people with just one drive, the Photoshop deal is quite a bit faster because its scratch space is no longer as piss slow as before. An extra drive is optimal but... you work with what you have. And yes, Windows does load its kernel into the pagefile. Read anywhere on the web... Good info on the AMD stuff. Yes, I was primarily referring to the older chips, but have also had difficulties with the newer ones as well. I never got too into overclocking on my own machine.. one of those things you assist a friend with and let them find out Redhat 9 is good. Was just curious. I run Debian on numerous machines, though a bunch of the servers I maintain are RH Enterprise. Bout a month from my RHCE, just need to get the test over with. Oh well enough ranting
  17. Yup, I'm from MI though I'm not familier with those two areas. Would be willing to give anything a shot if you lemme know where they are, etc.
  18. You would have to be a geek to run intel. I to am a computer nerd. I have a online bf1942dc clan I play matches with, build my own computers, and I am going to College to be a Electronics Engineer. do you play Battlefield Vietnam? If so download X-fire and send me a PM, and I'll set you up, or msg me on aim. Im getting tired of DC myself after playing so much BFV, waiting for BF2 to come out. I'm a Hardcore overclocker, only limited by funds and the amount of money I spend on the Banshee. For all you CS geeks check out this link! http://www.pwned.nl Requires flash and takes a while do load, but it is WELL worth the wait. Gotta check back to this post and see what you guys think I feel the opposite abotu AMD vs Pentiums. You can pump alot more voltage into an AMD chip, let it run hotter without problems than in Intell. Then again I have only been overclocking for years so what would I know about ISDS (intell sudden death syndrome) I buy whatever give mroe bang for the buck and overclock the shit out of it. Running an AMD 1700+ and a 333MHZ N-force2 board (the old chipset ones not made for 400) and have the CPU running 200x12 or aproximately @ 3200+. Bought an ATI 9800 np (after having 4 nvidia 4600 cards fry for no particular reason ) and flashed it to a pro. machines are not constrained by HD's all that much, only durring load and access. AFter everything is in your 1 GB + of memory you can run for hours at high speeds. Just graduated with a degree in Comp Sci, run my own website off my linux server as well as host all my pictures for the HQ on there Damn I'm Fuckin L337 Not to be a dick but... there are numerous tests out there showing that the AMDs are not nearly as durable as the Pentiums. To each their own, though. Been using Pentiums, overclocked, for many years now without a single problem, and have had nothing BUT problems with AMD. What distro of Linux? And.. yeah, they are constrained by the hard drive. stuff HAS to be accessed off the drive. Sure if you could load everything into RAM, in a perfect world.. but that doesn't happen. Even Windows loads its kernel into the pagefile (e.g., virtual memory) so access time is everything on a hard drive. The drive has to be accessed, no matter what, and it is usually the slow point in the machine.
  19. we need cabinboy's avatar in here... "Dirtrider.. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY!" still laughing about the alum thing..
  20. I run Intel ever since a roomie's Athlon overheated and the mobo didn't shut the machine down, and melted/ruined the processor. Oh, that was in conjunction with the infamous heat sink tests you see on the net, where the Pentiums just get hot and start acting froggy and the AMDs melt few bucks extra but worth it, IMHO... Processing power is slightly overrated anyway. most machines are constrained by their slow slow EIDE systems. 8.5ms access time... ha! What a joke. My scsi drive which is like.. 2 years old.. has a 3.6ms access, and a spindle speed of 15,000 rpm. Mmmm speed. Gotta iron out the bottlenecks in the system first but anyway thats ranting too much for Fri morning.. glad to see some fellow geeks in the house!
  21. Eh, i'm a geek. I use Windows on only one machine, at work. Linux person, through and through. Just a month or so away from my RHCE cert. I do a bit of UNIX networking and security consulting on the side of my current job. After school is done with shortly, on to *NIX administration, full time. Funny about the hacker/cracker comments that I've seen here and elsewhere. Generally when someone calls themself a hacker/cracker, they're really just a lamer or a script-kiddie. The people that know wtf is up also generally stfu.. at least in my experience.
  22. Good ol NGK BR8ES.. and whatever the going rate at Murrays/Advance Auto is for 'em. Like $2 or so.
  23. Actually it works best in the Autoexec.bat file, and works even better if you do format c: /y
  24. tell your uncle that if he manages to get spark to the other cylinder, it'll ride a lil faster i could tell him but hes not into the whole banshee modification thing, he just gets pipes on it and rides. nah man i was just messing, implying that the shee was only running on one cylinder... just playing no worries.
