  1. Why on earth did yamaha use rear tires with the exact same tread on each tire? makes no sence.. I am sure you all know what I am talking about. Both tires have the same directional tread and when you spin it always throws the quad to the right. Pisses me off... I need new tires.... Maybe I am the only one here so broke that I still have original rubber on my shee
  2. I have a question.. Why is it that shees have grease fittings but no other sport quad that I have seen has them? My buddies brand new z400 doesnt have them. I make fun of him and tell him that the z400 is a throwaway quad His suspension is squeeking all the time and my shee is quiet as can be. I love the fact that I can pump grease in there and push all the nasty shit out of the bushings. You would think grease fittings would be a standard item on every quad made. Any insight on this?
  3. Well that sux. I will ask you all this then. I bought my shee from my sister in law. She bought it brand new for her 12 year old son so it never really was riden hard or much until I got it. It sure was abused though..I have had it for almost a year now. I ride on average 60 - 70 miles a month. When I first brought my shee home the tranny oil was milky and looked like it had never been changed. I changed the oil before I even started it up. The clutch went south a couple months after I got it,From the shitty oil needless to say. I now change it every 3 rides or so. The kid knew nothign about the shee and was running regular 10w40 for the premix. It took a while for her to clear up to say the least! Compression is great in both jugs @130psi. Basically I am asking with the info I just told you would it be feasable to split the cases just to weld the crank or should I cross my fingers and hope it doesnt seperate and weld it when I have to split the cases? There is some sort of gear noise in the bottom end. It has done it since I have owned it. Could this be the crank seperating? Man you all have me worried now
  4. Is there any way to tell if the crank is seperating without splitting the cases and phisically looking at the crank? Will it make any noises or run bad or anything? In other words are there any warning signs before it is too late?
  5. Thats the same oil I use (valvoline atv 10/40). Good stuff. And it doesnt cost $7 a quart either. Around 3 bucks.
  6. I was under the impression that you shouldnt use automotive oil because the additives will cause the clutch to slip and wear out faster.. Everybody using regular automotive oil should switch to an oil made for wet clutches with no additives. Just my 2 cents.. I also change mine after 3 or so rides. A magnetic drain plug is cheap insurance too...
  7. LOL Damn Boon. I bet that one took a few mins to type.. Ding..fries are done...
  8. Now,now lets play nice.. No name calling.. I have an idea... My uncle has been a diesel mechanic for over 20 years and I can find out everything you all need to know. Just make a list and I will ask him and reply. Sound fair to everybody?? We can settle this shit once and for all..??
  9. I have to agree, My friend and I swap bikes alot (he has a z-400) and no matter what terrain we are on I am always glad to get back on my shee... I havent found another quad yet that I like riding better and feel as comfortable on as my shee. I would take a shee over a rapturd anyday but It is ultimately your choice.
  10. Boonman, Alot of vehicles have plastic-composite intakes. They have been on engines for years. I guess you dont keep up with the automotive world... GMs LS1, fords 4.2 and VW VR6 are just a few examples. There are many more...
  11. I dont know about anybody else but I use automotive wax on my plastics and frame. Best thing I have used yet.Easy clean up, they shine better than wd-40 and arent greasy. WD-40 didnt impress me at all.The coats of wax prevent scuffing on the plastics as well because they are so smooth and slippery.
  12. Yes I got beat so bad today it was funny as hell.. This guy at the sand pits had a bayou or mojave(cant remember which one) with a 900cc ninja motor. Talk about a nasty quad!! We lined up for shits and giggles. I stayed right with him til around 4th but when he finally hooked up he shot by me so fast in a wheelie I couldnt do anything but laugh. Man that thing was crazy!!Next time I go out there I am gonna have to get some pics and a video so you all can see this crazy thing!!
  13. I see me breaking out the dremmel tool tomorrow. Didnt even think to hog out the underside of the lid.. Learn something everyday
  14. I got the same clutch from Rockymountain (tusk) and I used the bands as well. Sounds like you just need to work on your adjustment. I had to adjust the screw-nut on the pressure plates because mine did the exact same thing you are describing. It is a a must that the arrows line up exactly because if they dont you will not get full release when clutch is disengaged. Or it will slip (depending on which side of the arrow the tab is on). I would start with the arrow adjustment and if that doesnt do the trick you will have to adjust the screw on the plates. If the basket is groved you can smooth it up if it isnt too bad.Fortunatly my basket was like new with no marks whatsoever. This one was my first clutch installation and I thought I screwed it up as well. Just be paitent, get your adjustments right and you will be fine.
  15. You all have to admit my buddy has a sense of humor. He really has a future in riding . In the few months he has been riding he has had some of the most serious wrecks I have seen(and some I havent seen but heard about). On a good note he has really impressed me with his progress and skills in riding. I seriously wish I was in his shoes right now. A whole life ahead of him and admits he is a pothead at 15..... Thats really something to brag about.. On a brighter note in just a few months he has gone from nothing to a good rider.
  16. I am not gonna argue with my buddy... He is the man.. I will let you all handle this...
  17. LOL nothing to brag about here.. I have an 88 gmc s-15. Nice truck with only 104,000 miles. I bought it wiht a blown 2.8. Put a 3.1 in it from a 91 camaro. It pulls my 21 foot boat and my trailer for the quad.Thats all I care about. Just bought a new chevy venture for the family but that is a minivan......Yuck!! it is convenient though...Sold my baby to buy my shee. 88 IROC L98 (vette engine from factory) . I loved that car. I had it running 14.20s in the 1/4 (with 188,000 miles) right before I sold it to my buddy.
  18. I am an inexperienced rider and I will be straight about that, but I still managed to whip some ass yesterday. Raced a few z-400s and a modded 400ex. Believe it or not the modded 400ex didnt put up as much as a fight as the stock z-400s. A friend of the guy with the 400ex was riding a 300ex and he said the guy with the 400ex had around $2,000 in mods. Personally I tought he was full of $hitt and I told him that if I had a 400ex with that much money into it and get beat by an inexperienced rider on a banshee with the mods I have I would set the 400ex on fire. The owner of the 400ex never said such a thing but I know he had a pipe, nerfs and graphics. Anyway now for the good stuff!! I cant launch my shee. I started out in first in each race and either popped the front up (hit second while still in the air) ,got out of the powerband or spun. My tires are stock 2000 model year and are pretty bad. I am scared of wheelies because I am a sissy I guess. I feel comfortable riding wheelies on my buddies z-400 but not the shee. I kind of like having the front end on the ground or within 3 feet of the ground on the shee... Anyway basically with the 400ex he got me on the launch everytime by about 2 quads but by the time I hit 3rd or 4th gear I was pulling by him at a good pace. Every time we ran it was the same thing. Believe it or not my 15 year old neighbor gave me a better run on his bone stock z400. On his best run (15 year old neighbor on the z400) he said he started out in 2nd. To be honest at the time I never even thought about starting out in 2nd. Now that I think about it I probably could have done better in 2nd. Hey!! I am an old fart whos first quad is my shee. I rode 3 wheelers in the 80s but it was nothing like my shee (needless to say). I am an inexperienced 32 year old who has fallen in love with beating some thumpers asses in just 1 day. I know there are some serious runners in here who probably has heard this same story from their kids but nevertheless I felt I had to tell you all anyway. Much fun!!! If I could only learn how to ride my shee and get some tread I might could do better. I have mostly rode trails and obstacles but I soon found out that like racing as well. Just thought I would share my first kill with you all..
  19. Good lord... What will it take to get one picture posted??? This is really dissapointing....
  20. You really dont need a "tors removal kit". You can do what alot of us average Joes do. Most would tell you to do a search on this subject but that would be rude in my opinion. I will give you a really crude general description to disable and remove the tors. I offer no gaurentee but it has worked great for me and I got the info from this site.. First thing is to locate the main tors brain (if you want to call it a brain). It will be under the left side of the gas tank-frame towards the front of the tank. Unplug the wires going to that little black bastard. Actually you can probably stop at this point but I kept going. What I did was remove the parking brake switch and cable completely. It is connected to the tors. (follow the wires. You will soon see the clusterfu(k the tors really is) When you remove the cable it will lead down to the rear brake caliper. You will need to remove this concraption from the caliper and in its place install a simple block off plate. They are available on ebay for 10-12 bucks or at your local cycle shop all day long. I broke off the circle holders that held the e-brake cable on the swingarm and filed-ground them down smooth. Next locate the wire harness coming out the thumb throtlle. Cut that bad boy as well. Take the remainder wire and plug out. Locate the tops of the carbs. Cut those wires as well and remove the excess. That should be a good start. If you have money to spend you can buy new carb tops-idle kit ,clutch perch-lever to clean things up.Ect.. I know I am not perfect and there will be some posts with things I may have forgot.. All I know is that help is sometimes hard to come by on this site (at least for me anyway) . I have been begging for somebody to post one lousy picture for me for about a month now so that I can find out what kind of pipes I have and nobody has done it yet. Hope this helps. Good luck!
  21. I agree 100%, It took me 2 days after I brought my shee home to figure out the tors was causing it to run like shit. Imagine just buying a shee and having it for 2 days and couldnt ride it!! Needless to say I ditched all the tors BS. Well almost all, I still have to get carb caps but other than that everything that has anything to do with tors is gone. It is up to you but I would recommend doing the same to save you some heartaches in the near future. It is a proven fact that the tors systems will eventually give you problems.
  22. Dont mean to rag on ac but I bought an ac rear skid plate and it was so bad I got a refund and havent messed with ac since. Shitty workmanship from all ac stuff I have seen. I am hooked on PRM now. Great stuff
