  1. I think the Ultimate shock would be high end Elkas with Ohlins valving in them (which is actualy what alot of the Pro's run)

Justin, your on to something there....At the rate they're going ohlins will be the shock to beat in 6 months... I"ve never ridden a set of elkas that were dialed in tits from them this past year .... 90% of the time somebody that knows what they're doing has to re-work them.... Another thing... TCS seem to work great on banshees but they're LT setup is awful on the yfz's and trx's.... My axis on the 450 were rebuilt right before I bought it in may of last year and they were ready to be refreshed right around september..... not that there was a heavy decline in performance but when the oil gets burnt/dirty the shocks aren't as fast as they were before....

On a side note I would love to see WALT chime in about the whole penske buying axis and them moving to PA thing... From what I hear in the pits it's more of a business with them now instead of doing it for the love of the game...

  2. Only problem with them is the 2 wheel drive. If my next truck isn't a powerstroke, I'm thinking of the Roush FX4 F150 since I like having 4x4. You might look into the Roush, not sure if they have any more power but they look meaner than the regular F150.

I worked at a ford dealership about 3 years back... from my experience the roush edition anything is basically interior re-badging and an exhaust system.... They MIGHT have changed them now but I'm doubting it.....

Those harley editions are badass if you can have a 2wd truck... posi-track rear end to boot.... You won't believe the rubber those salesmen left on the ground just from dropping it from a dead stop...

  3. I've always felt the top 3 were

    Axis

    TCS

    PEP

in that order.  Several others have agreed with me on that one.  IMO elka's specialty isn't in suspension, its in marketing.  Give out a bunch of free sets to key people, slap fancy names like "elite" and "dune edition", add a few bells and whistles that don't really make it perform any better and you've got yourself a winning combination.

Several shock rebuilding companies (j-h racing, balwdwin, precision) have told me that ELKA makes a nice shock... the problem is nobody there knows how to the damn things up.... Sure they ask about your riding style and bla bla bla but when you don't know valving that's all pretty much useless.... I'll agree with your shock choices on standard travel shocks.... I should've been more specific when I posted earlier.....

I have rode several PEP standard travel setups and I was far from impressed to say the least but there LT setup is hard to beat... It's the exact opposite with TCS and well elka.... ya, um... marketing goes a long ways :P .... Guess I need to go change up some stickers on my axis so there ready for the dunes  ....

  4. Matt:

Catch up with me next week after I get back from Dumont or maybe I'll give you a shout over the weekend.  I can give you the FULL story on Axis (rumors, truth, fact)  and I will explain a few more things to you. I'm not about to debate anything on here regarding suspension. Im sure you understand why. I'd hate to irritate the sand in someones vaginal cavity :)

your # end with 8656? If I dont call you tonight I'll try over the weekend (while at the dunes) hehe  :)

I was gonna put my .02 on this until I saw your post <_< ... Walt you make me feel dumb when it comes to suspension talk :notworthy: ....

On a side not.. Matt, I love my axis... the only thing I would even consider over these is PEP big clicks or possibly the new ohlins.....

  5. Thanks, thats what I figured and it worked out good. Not exactly the easiest way to set preload though. Does anyone make a tool to make the process a 1 man job> I had to have someone help me compress the springs while I moved the ring.

I can do it by myself... I just squirt a little liquid wrench on there so the clip slides better...

  6. :P

Just need to keep eating clean, and get over this god damn cold so I can get back to the gym.

I definitely don't look like the guy in the photochop though. Wish I was that big.

    210lbs isn't that big on a 6'2" frame.

    Guess i'm a scronny piece of shit... I only weigh 195 and i'm 6'3....

  7. I just got a used Lobo 2 front end setup with dual rate axis adjustables. How can I change the preload on these shocks, It looks like the retaining ring at the top of the body holds the spring stop in place. Any help would be great.. Thanks

    486486[/snapback]

Just take the weight off the front end.. have someboy pull the shock down and then slide that ring down to were you want...

  8. Hey I just think the guy should know before he dumps all that cash in a LT setup and is disappointed w/ the performance.

    I'm with you... it's a shame 65% of the others aren't...
