1. Wrong, it's a full size quad. It's made for a man. The 400 is for little boys, who are not big enough for a full size machine and are still developing their riding skills.

LMAO.. It weighs 550LBS!!! You are totally wrong and actually quite rude by saying that it's "for little boys who's nuts haven't dropped yet" Both have their place is in this world.. just on opposite ends...

  2. so what part of it did your cousin not like?  the Motocross aspect or what?  like i said, this will be on the street and in the dunes.  i will still have the shee for hardcore duning, but want an all around bike for desert/dunes/street.  thanks for the info

Nothing you'll notice.. his riding style changed... but he didn't change bikes <_< .... PERFECT for what your gonna use it for... The powerband is SMOOOOOOTHH...

  3. Basically how do you like the bike.  I'm an aircraft maintainer by trade so normal maint. will not be a problem.  just wanted the opinion of a few people on how they liked their Xs.

    493865

I have a crf hybrid and My friend has the crf bike... My cousin has the X.. .. Honda had the TERRIBLE idea of putting Ti intake valves.. those will clap out if you don't keep them adjusted... Don't let that scare you.. the modern 4-strokes are not 1/16th bad as the myth claims... take care of it and it will take care of you...

As for the bike itself... It's a trail bike.. top heavy, like 30lbs heavier than the crf.. different cam/flywheel/subframe/set/plastic... Basically a totally different bike.. You can ride it literally for days at time :headbang: ... If your looking to hit doubles.. go with the R....

I can tell you one thing.. when my cousin rode with my buddy and I.... he wished he had the crf half way through the day...

EDIT: With a pipe/filter, gearing, cam and brass balls 100+ is EASILY obtainable... I'ts already got a mellow cam.. throw some fat motard tires on there and let er eat :headbang: ....

  4. Still though, you can use a front TCS w/ any brand of arm as long as it isn't LT.  Same w/ Axis, Works, Elka...  Actually I take that back, occassionally you see arms that were designed around a remote ressy and they bump piggybacks.  Other than that, there might be a c-hair of performance loss, but not anything that most riders would notice.

    493784

Matt.. that was just a general piece of info about LT shocks.. I should've clarified myself..... we all know that LT and banshee don't go in the same sentence ... With that being said... You can use ANY shock on ANY a-arm as long is it's not LT and for your mahine... If the arms are bumping the rezzies that's bad R&D.... By bumping the rezzys.. you talking about justing's custom creations arms?

IMO... TCS is the only people that care about 'shees anymore... Every set of aftermarket shocks I've rode on banshees in the past year have been tcs or badly setup others...

    Mike

  5. All shocks are gonna be the same length unless you go with a 19" long travel.  The difference is in the spring and the valving.  That's how shock companies setup shocks for stock arms, +2 arms, 100lbs riders, 250lbs riders, etc...

    493741

Just little info: You see manufactures like walsh/pep, roll/elka etc... Well the a-arms are actually designed around those shocks... Like my axis are 19'' so I run JRD.... Elkas are 20''... Some are 20 1/4''... PEP are 19 1/2'' etc...

  6. The kfx400 is OK for little fellers. Nice play quad as long as your not to big. But when your nads drop and you get a little bigger, then the kfx700 is a bit better choice.

The 700 easily out runs the 400. Unless your under a buck fifty.

It's a honda goldwing with 2 extra wheels and a thumb throttle...

  7. Here's kinda a run-down on some popular suspension brands in order of ride quality (some might argue w/ me on these) 0-10 scale.

    Stock - 0

    YFZ's - 2

    works - 3

    elka - 6

    tcs - 8.5

    axis - 10

There's others out there but those are some of the more common ones.  Works has a new line out that I haven't had the chance to ride yet but I'd imagine they'd fall either just above or just below elkas.

The 450 shocks are still gonna be shittier than even some cheap-o works.

    493726

Matt, Mark my words.. in a year... ohlins and progressive will be the top dogs in the suspesnion dept... Followed by PEP then AXIS.... I'm glad somebody agrees with me about the yfz shocks... why would you spend the time to take off your front end.. grind it all up.. just to put some stockers back on  ....

I've seen the progressives in action... It's like poetry in motion...

  8. Wow.......I asked for replies that had substance to them, and I get smart-a$$ remarks. Thanks for helping me understand. I ask this question because I'm contemplating sinking some money into my 'Shee's suspension. Also, I find it strange that I have yet to bottom my stock suspension on 4-5' of air, but I saw a picture of a guy on here last night that bottomed his on 4' (and he's running YFZ shocks up front and weighs 135lbs - I'm 175lbs).

Personally, I don't think that the stock suspension is as bad as everyone tries to make it sound, and I don't think that the 450's are as good as everyone thinks they are - they just have alot more adjustability that the Banshee (which is 19 years old and virtually unchanged, mind you). To me, 4-strokes are for less-skilled riders (b/c they are easier to ride), and 2-strokes will always be able to produce more power for the same displacement.

    Ok, let the smart-a$$es reply.............

    493606

Everybody in here gave you a reasonable reply..... I am a huge smart ass... but I was actualy trying to take this topic somehwere... hoping you would reply with something other than you did.... I can think of 5 threads off hand were this has been discussed at length... Go head and type in "long travel" in the search... Or do you know how to use it? . I have BOTH a 450 and a 'shee.. yes... the 450's are 300times better than the 'shee at doing anything but going in a straight line...I would be more than happy to help you out but this is a LOOOOONNGG discussion... If your going to be a prick to anybody that replies you can go find your help somewhere else :flush: ...

  9. i can knife edge it pretty well if i take my time.

what do you mean by transfers? u mean by knifing it? and enlarging exhaust ports by on the jugs or both jugs and pistons? per porting specs of what?

    493533

If you had to ask that, I seriously reccomend you have a shop do it for you.... There's a hell of alot more to porting than a dremel, an hour and a six pack...

    Mike

  10. Surf, Don't mind those guys, they are usually rude to anyone that is new.

    493422

 .... It's the fact that you get people that register for the soul fact of answering there question... no searching... no even a quick scroll down the page... So somebody does the search for them.. post a reply... not even a thank you... never hear from them again... Cruise around the HQ a little more before you make a blind assumption such as that one....

I mean... seriously... do you have to ask somebody ACROSS THE COUNTRY what rims are on YOUR bike  .... If you make an ass out of yourself... we will sure as hell let you know  ....

  12. No big difference on the riding with a good set of shocks and standard travel aftermarket arms.LT are very expensive just for 19'' shocks

    492059

I'm going to have to disagree with that... if both front ends are dialed in tits... there is actually quite a difference in LT and standard travel.... For you average rider though, the biggest difference he'll get out of LT and standard is the visual appeal.... The people that started that rumor about LT being a waste are full of bologna....

  13. the arms are american star racing

    492965

That's your problem right there.. You have the arms mounted right.... Bad engineering/R&D is to blame... Is It really 1/2mm... does look pretty close but not that close... You can run it... not like you have much of a choice :shrugani: .... Think about it... once that arm is bolted in... Were in the hell is it gonna go?

    Mike

  14. I can't figure out which direction the upper a-arm goes in. With it installed this way the bung for the balljoint is about 1/2mm away from the spring. If I switch it with other one then the balljoint is 3in forward from the lower one.

    492947

What's a bung? How'd you manage to get the balljoint 1/2mm from the spring...
