  1. I'm getting ready to go out next weekend and was thinking about all I need to do to get ready. What do you all do to get ready and to prevent the onslaught of the sand getting in every crack and how to make it easier to clean up afterwards? Last time I went I didn't have any problems except for some sand in the fuel and no filter, I have a filter now so that should eliminate that issue. I'm changing my carb boot tomorrow, this one's starting to crack, not too bad, but that's the last thing I need right now. My main concerns are making it easier to clean when I get back and what to do to keep it from getting into the motor and what preventative measures do you take to ensure your machine will stay running perfect for the whole duration your there. Later.
  2. HOT DAMN!!! My shit's already for it. Got the new stator on with out a hitch, well a little grinding as usual, but like a glove. I'm set up for the dunes this next weekend. Damn, I feel like I've got a birthday coming. Later. Scott
  3. There's a pretty long thread on that here in the Tips & Tricks forum.
  4. Did someone say nippe??? Yeppers, take it with you to compare. The damned dealer should be able to pull the right one up, though they did give me the wrong wheel studs twice.
  5. I really like the TRXUS, had them one last two trucks.
  6. Wet plugs mean rich, black and dry mean you pretty darned close. Lean your main one more size and check the plugs. You'll probably be alright one size leaner, see if it helps. Good luck.
  7. First off, think about it this way. Your machine won't need less fuel now than it did when it was stock, now that you've ported you'll need more fuel to match the additional air flowing through, so that should tell you something's up. How long has it been doing this? If I were you, I'd pull those carbs and check the intake. I have a feeling you might have a busted reed. If it turns out you have a busted reed, you could be screwing your jetting all up when that's not the problem. Your jetting sounds pretty good, possibly a little large on the main, but that's only known by plug checking, but I don't think it would be causing that big of a problem. Hope that's understandable. Take a peek and let me know.
  8. yfz450 shocks or new carbs off Ebay, maybe single carb setup?? that'd be another bone or so.
  9. I'd say that you might need a few sizes larger also. I'd also say 4th maybe even 5th clip on the needle. I'm on the 5th clip needle with my below mods, no porting or stroking, all stock internal, original bore. I was on 4th w/ my stock carbs. First and foremost, do a plug check. Second, it won't hurt to keep going till she get's a little blubbery, I usually get blubbery in 6th gear.
  10. How high would you say it's revving, maybe rpms or percentage of how high. Is your throttle adjusted correctly, you might have too much slack in the cable and your throttle lever is not pulling the slides all the way up. I was also thinking float bowls, might need to be adjusted, but could be wrong there. Those are just a few thoughts. Your jetting doesn't sound like it's off that much, if any. You might back off one more main size and do a plug reading next time you can. I know how those duals can be changing mains all the time . I'm no expert, but I'm just kinda brainstorming, hoping something will pop out right.
  11. sorry, should've clarified all that. if you have an idea of what jets you need, CarbParts.com can get you exactly what you need without the "extra" stuff you don't need that you pay for in the kits. Get the number off the site and call them and they will help you out. If you just want to buy a kit, try Magic Racing and they'll have FMF or K&N jet kits available. Later.
  12. It sounds like you might be rich on the pilot. Set your air/screw to 1 turn and lean your pilot a size and see what happens. If it's under 1/8th throttle, chances are the needle won't do too much, it helped a little cause it did take a little fuel out of the pilot circuit, but not much. What adjustments did you do to the pilot? Did you go richer or leaner? Play with that and see if it helps.
  13. lean your needle one clip and see if it goes away. I run 5th clip all winter and when it warms, like it is now, I fall back to the 4th and eliminate a little bog that will develop if I don't. Another scenario if you want to get real technical with your needle (since you have an aftermarket one already), you could experiment with a different taper that would be richer than your current around 1/2 throttle and run it in the 4th. You'll get similar performance you have now above 1/4 / 3/8 throttle while still leaning the 1/8 to 1/4 circuit. Scott
  14. Depends on what your running with your T5s. If your running a 280 with your T5s, then a 185 or 190 might be better suited. If your running a 310, then you might be up around 200, maybe 210. As an average, I'd say 190 main, 45 pilot, and 4th clip on the needle. I run the needle in the 5th clip in the winter and 4th in the summer. Remember, you could be a little richer or leaner. My bike runs richer than most, and I'm at 220 main, 52 pilot and 5th clip on the needle. You most likely won't be that rich, but you could be, or you could be at 185 / 42 / 4th clip, so try the 195/45/4th and check your plugs, you'll know if you need more or not.
  15. the brand of shocks do not dictate what they are for. Price dictates what brand to use, not style. With any decent shock manufacturer, they'll "interview" you about your riding style, your weight, and all the specifics of how you ride, gear, bike setup. They will then design the ideal setup shock for you. If your on a budget then go for Works, good dependable shock that performs well, if you feel like dumping some pennies and want the all out, go with some Elkas. They all will make a shock specific to your application. So figure out your budget, call around and find out what is in your budget and then send 'em the dough.
  16. yeah, benbb's site is very informative. good luck with getting 'er fixed up.
  17. take your carb cap off then loosen your thumb throttle screw. Then try putting your cap back on. Try it a few times to see if you can get some play in there. I bet that's what it is. The way that cable attaches can be a bitch. When I pull the cap and go to replace it, I pull the cable end out of the cap, thread the cap then work the cable end back in. Hope it works out. Scott Just noticed your other question: I haven't had an opportunity to ride with my work going crazy. The north forty, is that what they call the track out past the railroad tracks? I've never been to Jills track. We'll have to hook up and ride some. I'm going to the dunes next weekend, and I got room. Come on!!! Hell, if you want, bring your quad over and we'll get 'er fixed up!! Well, todays mother's day and my son's mother is giving me the evil eye for even being on here. Seriously, get your stuff together and come to the dunes with me on Fri.
  18. Thing is, jethro's wanting to run a program on one computer from another computer. I'm not really too sure about that either. I finished my network yesterday of connecting my office to my house 350' away. I have a wireless network in my office, then the network runs wirelessly across to the house and then wires into an access point inside. It was a real PITA, but I love it now that it's done. My laptop is wireless in the house now, my pc is and so is my ps2, all at 54mbps to the network and broadband internet. Now, back to the subject, I think everyone is misunderstanding, he's not wanting to share files, sounds like that's already done, he's wanting to run a program on another computer. I'd actually like to see if you can do that also, but I don't think you can with Microsoft, maybe with Linux or something.
  19. have you checked your plugs? It's fine to bump up till shee bogs. Try the 195 and see if shee bogs, if not, go higher, until she does and back off a size. If you don't know how to check plugs, there is so much info on it, check this forum a page back or two and search if need be. There's a picture of what it should look like a page back.
  20. Check that your throttle cable is not bent or kinked. The cable is a tight fit on top of the carb cap and fiiting in between the tank. It can get kinked up in there and cause that. I changed my needle the other day and put it back together and that happend. First thing I thought was, "oh shit, what did I do", but after I calmed down and just thought it through, I found the cable had just got kinked and wasn't letting the slide close. Check it out.
  21. you ought to be pretty close, it will probably be alright, if you don't have your timing advanced. If your timing is advanced you'll probably want to go with the 20cc domes.
  22. they're never a good deal. "kits" or always a ripoff.
