  1. I understand exactly what your saying, I've never heard that before, but I understand. Your saying that the links on the chain won't hit the same spots on the sprocket near as often, spreading the wear more evenly. Definitely something to consider, thanks for the response. Scott
  2. what about your float bowls. have you tried spraying ether through the air intake to verify if it's getting fuel or not, that will rule that out. You need to check the compression, kicking over cylinders @ 98 lbs. will feel similar to kicking over 130 lbs. A gauge is the only way to tell.
  3. I don't think there's anything wrong with the BR8ES, great plug. I began using a BR8EIX plug about three or four months ago and I really like it. Seems to burn a lot cleaner and stronger. If your changing elevation much and you go up a little that would normally be on the rich side of the line, this plug will help burn cleaner and not foul as easy. This plug has been the standard in jet ski / watercraft racing also. Like I said, there is nothing wrong with the standard plug and it works well, but the Iridium is a very nice plug also, if you don't mind paying a little more. Later.
  4. Yeah, pretty decent. Sleeping is still awfully hard, but once I get up in the morning and loosen up, I'm okay. Don't you worry about that. I'm all over that. B76179, hope you feel better too, maybe I ought to come down and we can hang at the bars or something. Thanks fellas.
  5. not necessarily, the higher the gear your in, the harder your motor has to work to pull it, which will require more fuel and possibly result in a lean condition. Just because your mixture is right in 3rd gear doesn't mean it won't be lean in 6th. That's why when we tell people to run a WOT plug check, we suggest 6th gear, this will eliminate the chances of having a lean condition in a high gear. Chances are, he was lean in 6th and didn't have the fuel he needed to provide the power to pull the 6th gear. My 2 cents.
  6. sweet, sounds like it's worth a shot, although a little too late.
  7. are you sure the sand was getting in through the tops and not through the gas? Do you have an inline filter? I would highly suggest getting one if you don't have one. The slides are so much cause you got them from the dealer. If you have the new ones them just use them. As far as rejuvinating the old ones, don't really know how bad unless I can see them.
  8. An oring has round o shaped rings in the chain links, an xring has a rings that around the links in the shape of an x. Supposedly, the xring seals better, but has more rolling resistance. Is the resistance noticeably, I highly doubt it. If you like the idea of the xring sealing better then use it, it's just a little more dough. I use an oring and have no troubles, the xring is a great chain and super strong. Scott
  9. Mods to a two-stroke are all quite similar. Different motors respond a little differently, but they mods are generally the same. Pipe, coolhead, reeds, air intake mods, etc. You can step up to porting and carb mods, and keep going. Just like the shee, you can get a top-end pipe or midrange pipe. It's all very similar.
  10. Ben, I was trying to explain to my wife exactly what happened and why I did reacted how I did when I was out there. I grew up in Northern Colorado and am very familiar with "white outs" and that was the only way I could explain to her what it was like. It was very flat, not level, but flat colored, blended together. She is very emotional and was very worried and concerned for me, and being 3 states away made it tough on her. She'll be walking in the door any minute. We've discussed the whole quad riding thing and she understands that it's not just going to go away. I walked out to the trailer to take a look at my quad. Other than being driven in to my place, it hasn't been touched, unloaded or anything. There are a few black marks on the outside of the right rear fender and there are some on the left fender next to the seat in that little groove. There was a bunch of sand on the front master cylinder and all over the gas tank. I don't know what would've made those marks out in the dunes, but other than the few marks, there's no damage or anything, looks like it's waiting for a rider. I felt like I had to write that detail about what happened to help get it off my chest. I can remember it vividly right now and it helps to get it out about what happened. In one thought I feel so lucky, and then in another thought, I feel like I let myself down. It helps to put it into detail like that. All you guys, thanks for your kind words.
  11. Banchetta, let me ask you. I like running the 15 tooth front cause I can gear down pretty good and really open her up if I want. My question is, would there be much of a benefit of running a 14/39 over a 15/41? They're almost identical ratios, but would there be any noticeable advantage in having smaller front and rear sprockets, or is it way too minor?
  12. well, nothing as long as you take the few precautions mentioned before. If that happened, then you'd burn all your oil if it would even run and then be running straight fuel. It's also important to make sure it's mixed well before you take off. If those two aspects are covered, then there's no prob.
  13. If I remember correctly, ebilabuc had two of them. one's on his machine and he sold the other on ebay becuase he didn't need it. i tried to buy it but didn't go very high cause I didn't really need it either. He'll chrome it or powdercoat for a little more, but you can probably find a powdercoater around for pretty cheap. As cheap as I am, if I decide to get one, I'll probably buy one from them. Scott
  14. i'll take the hubs. i'll send you a pm.
  15. Eric @ Elka told me as long as I didn't lose more than 2 teaspoons of the oil then it should be fine and operate no different. I think I lost between 1 and 2 teaspoons worth. He also said that I need to find a local shop that can recharge the nitrogen back up to exactly 150 psi. So, appears to be no big prob. Scott
  16. if you haven't seen my "novel" in the Gen. Discuss. area, I had and accident at LS and cracked 3 ribs and my right lung collapsed. Basically I went over the front and the quad came over and the bars landed square on the left side of my back. I'm now considering a chest protector. One, to help keep my bangs and bruises together once I recover some, and two, to maybe help prevent this in the future. My question is, and it's hard to really know but, if I would've had a chest protector on, how much of the impact would the protector absorbed, and I'm wondering how much less my injuries would be. I'm sure I'm gonna buy one because it's better than nothing, but I just wonder. Scott
  17. Man, I'm glad I'm not the only one to be "tricked" by these optical illusions. I kept thinking, damn I can't believe I didn't see that, and it's hard to believe how it suddenly appeared, but i guess I've put my time in and now I'm paying dues. Thanks man. A little old school Huevos helps too.
  18. Here's a new swingarm on eBay for $175, just needs powdercoating. -2" Yamaha Banshee Swingarm
  19. Banchetta, your gearing is very close to mine, just a tad higher. Your saying if I switched to a smaller front and smaller rear, a new chain would stretch a lot faster? Never really thought of that, something to think about. I'm forever screwing with my gearing, trying to find the perfect setup. A 15/41 w/ 22" tires is a tad higher geared than a 15/37 w/20" tires. I wouldn't be very happy if I was running 22" tires with my setup, too high geared. a 14/42 with 22" tires would be damn close to my gearing and be a lot better for you. A 13/40 would be a little lower and you'd probably really like that setup. Just some thoughts. Later.
  20. what are your present mods and elevation. When does it backfire, full throttle, light throttle, not rpms but throttle position. If you putt putt around and it's fine then you slam it wode open throttle and it pops then or it's fine when your full throttle, but when you let off or back off the throttle a little it pops, that's what I'm looking for. you say it "runs way to rich with a light brown", where are you reading this color from. light brown in some instances can mean not rich enough depending on where your looking at. My first thoughts are that your lean, but we need to figure out in what area that your lean. the reason it does it more with the one with the holes is because your leaning the mixture even more and therefore it pops more. Get back.
  21. Here's two I found on Ebay. Stock Stator Cover, $8 and ends in 8 hours. 2000 Stator Cover
  22. Didn't see that when posting. Thanks, I really needed to see that. I want a 40mm for my big bore plans. Honestly, I think that is way overkill unless you have BIG plans for your motor. The 35 will get you much better response than that big 40. If you installed the 40, you'd be losing quite a bit of the mid that the single normally has due to the size. That should be put on a fairly strong modded motor. Very nice though. Scott
  23. you got it, and it will be a badass runner with some porting.
  24. My wife is coming home today, and if I have my way, she's "banned" from BHQ. She was out of town and got on here and logged in and was going through my pms and this and that. Not that I care, but hey, no snooping, if you want to look then just say so. She didn't think the banshees chasing down the tards was very funny, but I told her, as mean as it was, I thought it was funny as f*^k, especially Leds, wheelying banshe chasing the one tard in the sand. makes me laugh now. Overall, I think she was surprised at how most of you responded, like you took a moment and said something intelligent, I think she expected there to be a bunch of careless shits on here. BenBB and CEJ, I agree, understand and appreciate your thorough remarks in regards to the "desire" to ride. It's very true, and one does not understand unless they've been there. She has zero experience with quads and the first one she was ever around was my lt250r i had when we got married. now that I'm home, she has calmed down and is now understanding that we'll move on from this experience. she was very scared and afraid of what happened and what could've happened. I'm luck to have someone that cares that much. I'm also very thankful for the people in my life that care and go out of their way for me. My parents hopped in the truck within a half-hour of me notifying them (at 10pm) and drove 4 hours to be with me. The next morning, they drove 200 miles to and from LS, to get my truck and trailer with all the gear. When they got back that afternoon, we were back in the truck headed home, another 4 or so hours. i've agreed to be a little more cautious when I'm riding, because (if you've ready my other story) the main reason the accident even happened was due to my confusion in reading the terrain ahead, and instead of slowing or turning, I just barreled ahead until it was too late. That was only my third time ever in the dunes. I think I ride really well, but my experience with the sand and reading it and reacting to it is very limited and I owe my accident mostly to that, and partly to an incorrect split decision. But hey, shit happens. I'll ride again and I'll live on to see the next one. I'll probably be taking it easy at the dunes for awhile, and I probably won't be back for awhile either. Thanks for the support fellas. Scott
  25. do you have an inline filter to see if the flow is there like it should be? how about your gas, is it new or old? what about your float bowls, have you checked to make sure nothing got bent in there? is the throttle cable adjusted correctly? air filter, nice and clean? have you tried to adjust the air screw? you may try to spray carb cleaner or ether or something around the carb boots to see if it picks up, identifying an air leak. is it just idling so low it stalls, or is it rough and cutting out then dies? Scott
