  1. It's possible that it's a little rich, and that's on the pilot jet, not the main. Reeds can vary from not making any difference in jetting to causing it to lean out a little from added airflow. They shouldn't cause a rich condition.
  2. not at 4,300 feet. At that elevation, 105 to 110 would be more accurate.
  3. I've got a very tired 454 in my 95 chev and I need to do something to it. You probably know but the '95 was the TBI year and has weak compression from the fact and doesn't put out squat new, let alone with 145k miles. I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with it. I've really been leaning towards a 383 but that zz4 385 looks pretty damn nice. I was just looking at it on the goodwrench site. I was also considering just rebuilding the 454 and cam it and get some newer Vortec heads and put my money back in the big block. I don't know what to do.
  4. nice, i love hearing those babies sing.
  5. or you could just say f*^k it and get a single carb. no syncing and no bs with all the power the lil gringo needs.
  6. me too, but some yahoos never get it.
  7. Damn, where's my glasses?? Let me think for awhile, my brain isn't too speedy on Sat. afternoons.
  8. I've generally heard that you don't want the exhaust side that shiny polished finish. I'm not much of a motor builder so my opinion is squat. Glad to hear they worked out for you fro.
  9. you should be running a main jet, a pilot jet and some sort of needle with a little clippy thing on it, or maybe a pair of those depending upon your carb setup. that's about all I can tell you based on what you told us.
  10. missed the wanted section by 5 or 6 forums. good try though.
  11. Not necessarily, but the powerband will be a little broader and make it easier to stay in the powerband. It really is up to your riding style and terrain you ride in. If you mx, or trail a lot, the Fatties rock, but then a lot like the Toomeys too. Ok, here it is, it's a personal thing. You won't really know until you try. Only other way to see is to try to find another bike with those pipes on it. Keep in mind when you ride a bike with those pipes that they may have some other mods that will benefit other areas also. Later.
  12. when did we start porting heads, I want in, can I play too?? Can't port two stroke heads, cause there ain't no ports to port. If you have any spare cash, get an aftermarket head, Noss head, PD Coolhead. I'd go with the Noss cause of the BHQ support and the sweet color options. If money is tight, there's nothing wrong the milling the head to get the compression you want, but a an aftermarket will help equalize the extra heat with the raised compression, it looks cool, and you can always raise or lower the compression later, where with a milled head, you got what you got. Later.
  13. The Hypertech programmers are nice, especially for adjusting the tire sizes, shift points and all. However, if I'm going to get something for a light modded motor, I'd go to Jet Performance and have them burn you a program for the application. My opinion.
  14. Man, your gonna have to learn to read your plugs. We can't tell you 100% that you need to up or down on your main. Your going to have to run a wide open throttle run to check your plugs to see what your gonna have to do with the main. Once you have the main where the plugs are coloring correctly, then you'll want to work on the rest. If you just run around and change this and then that, you don't know what you've got and what change is causing what effect. Do a WOT plug check and tell us how the plugs look, then we can go from there. BenBB's Jetting page, for more info. Scott
  15. Hockey390, yes, you would go up on both accounts. Start with a 230 and run a plug check to see how she likes it. You can try the 5th clip and 52 and go from there. I'm using the std. needle that it came with, not sure which one according to the coding, and I run it in the 4th or 5th clip depending on where I'm at and the temps. The duals will change things quite a bit, since then, you'd have two carbs giving fuel and air instead of one, so you'd use much leaner jets. Later fellas.
  16. did the carbs look pretty clean or dirty? reason I'm asking is it sounds like the pilots could be clogged up some and not getting fuel to it.
  17. I wouldn't stray too far from a restroom then.
  18. ok, let's think about this. lower elevation = more dense air port & polish = more air flow through motor when you add air, do you add fuel or take fuel away?? I'll let you figure this one out.
  19. sorry, i realized that was a little f'ed up sounding... i mean't, "why are mac's free from getting spyware, viruses and such".
  20. what's up with the mac's?? i'm not down with the "sickness".
