  1. If the shift shaft has enough side play it could have slid over far enough to come loose from the pin and shift star. Pull the clutch side cover off and see if it has come loose. This is probably where your trouble lies anyway, so you'll hafta pull it regardless. Don't feel bad, alot of em don't like to go to fourth, mine included.
  2. C-12....Talk to race car guys, they usually know where to get it. We've got a local supplier, I doubt he'd be willing to deliver it to you tho.
  3. Check the antifreeze! Always shake your gas can before refueling in winter, the gas and oil separate quicker in cold temps.
  4. There are no major differences between yrs except for 87-89 (I think) were J-arm frames instead of A-arm. You prolly wont find anything that old thats still worth buying anyway. Just keep this in mind; I'd rather give an extra $500 for something thats like new vs. save the $500 and have some clapped out junker thats always broke down.
  5. Check the rubber hose that goes between the two carbs. It can look like its on there and not be. If that muther falls off you wont know wether to shit or go blind. Makes em do all kinds of weird stuff.
  6. Take your time and look them over well. Check ball joints, tie rod ends, and a-arm bushings. These are the easiest ways to tell if its a polished turd or has actually been taken care of. If not taken care of these items will wear out fast. Check the frame to see if its been bent anywhere. You can usually tell a bent section by the paint popping off. Don't get in a hurry and buy the first one you look at it cause its got some NEATO graphics kit on it. If you get ahold of one with low hours, that hasn't been modded to death,it should run trouble free for a long time. If you end up buying somebody's junk you'll just have a friggin nitemare on your hands. There are lots of em out there so look around and be patient.
  7. Buy a set of cubs $875 Drag Pipes off Ebay $400 Set of 35mm or bigger carbs $300 -------- Total $1575 Not gonna win too many drags with 60hp. Better shoot for 90hp.
  8. Check all the TORS connectors...sometimes the connector for P Brake can come out of the housing a little and cause it to run on one cyl.
  9. I had to use the cable adjusters on carb caps to get mine to idle. In order to get the cable the right length I had to install the shorter adjusters. You need to synchronize the carbs at the same time tho, otherwise it will never idle properly.
  10. I'm feeling the pain here! Mine shifted fine before cubs, now it won't hardly shift to fourth at all. I get one clean pass out of 7-8 runs where it hits all the gears and I don't overrev the piss out of it. Sometimes I get the feeling that my bike is just lazy and don't like to race. I saw your post on PS and from the looks of it (from those who responded) it could be virtually anything in the tranny. Think I'll just trash everything this winter and start over. Heres your chance Jeff, what kinda deal can ya cut me for everything between the clutch basket and countershaft?
  11. Need elevation also. When I had those same mods, I was running 290 mains and I'm at 1,000 ft of elevation. If your at a lower elevation you should go up on the main one or two sizes and vice versa if higher.

  14. I'd say crazy c prolly had the fastest gas bike of the weekend. 23champs bike and mine are fairly even when I can get mine to shift. We were puttin it on most of the gas bikes. Drag bikes were hard to run with tho, most were too good looking to be racing like that. I'd have them sitting in the shop till race day. It was a good time tho, looking forward to next year.

  19. I think it should be! Don't get me wrong, I love to cuss, curse, swear and anything else that deals with the french language. Seems like its the only way to get my point across, and I've done it for so long that I dont even know I'm doing it nowadays. I think it should be sensored here tho, for kids and newcomers sake. It would clean the site up a little more. I have noticed a change in everyones attitude in the last couple mo.s and there has been less fighting between members. Good job guys, keep it up. If it were sensored, everyone who "knows" could fill in the blank on their own anyway, so I don't see what it would hurt.
  20. Your best bet might be to sell the Toomeys and buy a set of inframe drag pipes. They will wake it up for sure.
  21. Cant say I blame ya, we're expecting rain all weekend as well, so drags will prolly be canceled. Maybe next month?
  22. I've seen lots of bikes go under water, just drained it and went on. Your situation is a little different tho. It has been sitting long enough in this condition that rust has probably started to form on all the bearings and the cyl. walls. I would strip the motor completely and replace all bearings, hone the cylinders to remove any rust and throw on some new rings. For $200-$300 it should be ready to go.
