Hockey390
I have FMF gold series (old school ones) and brand new FMF Q series silencers. I had the pipes hooked up to old school power cores before, and they seemed to fit fair, but since I switched to the Q series the left right pipe spatters oil/gas out of it right where it meets the engine. and then on the left side I cant get the pipe to come together with the silencer to put the clamp on.. The only way I can get it close is if i practically pull the pipe off of the engine. Do these 2 pipes just not fit together? or am I doing something wrong? OR does FMF just not make a very good fitting pipe
sredish
I've always had some sort of an issue with FMFs leaking a little, never spattering like you say, but a little oil coming out is what I've gotten used to. Might be a little of the two types not fitting well with each other and some to do with the overall FMF fitment. Dunno.
pimp559
Have you put new pipe clamps on? If not I would try that. That will probably fix it. The after market clamps with o-rings in them are good if you install them correctly.
Hockey390
I was using stockers, and I just got my billet aftermarket ones the other day.. I went to install them and this is when I came to the conclusion that my pipes dont fit the way they should... IMO, When the silencer is mounted with both screws, and the front pipe is attached, they should come together EASILY.. Mine....ya.. I wish I could take a video of my trying to get the bastards to fit. It almost makes me wonder if my engine isnt on straight but I thought of that before and have no idea how to see
Hockey390
ok, here are pics of what im talking about.. finally got my digi cam working. The first picture is the right side pipe, the 2nd is showing how far apart the header and the silencer are where they are "connected" if you call it that.. 3rd is the left side pipe, and of course 4th is the right header where it comes to the silencer.. a good connection IMO, but the problem is if there is a good connection, the connection from pipe to engine is poor (see pic 1) if the connection is good from pipe to engine (see pic 3) then the connection to the silencer is bad (see pic 4) Lasty I wonder if my engine isnt centered or if its in the wrong spot... see picture 5, if it lets me post it, if not.. see next post. BenBB
My Fattys with Power Core 2's fit pretty fair, but not perfect (the previous owner of the silencers had drilled out the stinger bracket to make it fit). Is it leaking at the cylinder or the clamp...or either one depending on how you mount 'em? I would get it to seal right at the cylinder, and either use a little hi-temp RTV on the clamps or use a dremel to open up the silencer mounting holes. Thats a damn good idea...why didnt I think of that thanks though, thats why I ask things on here.. i get good answers.. I have one side mounted perfect at the clamp, but it leaks at the engine, the other side I cant even really get it to clamp together without leaking a crapload of exhaust (which isnt good) and that side is IFY on the connection to the engine. i will do that this weekend... Supposed to get some new parts in friday
boonman
Man oh man. My FMF fatties and PC II's fit AWESOME!! Perfect every time. Slide right on, no bitching, no cussin. Although, I did lose the rubber grommets, but I fashined up some business to fix that up. Oh, I also have no leaks at the exhaust port flange either? I have put new O-rings in though. Have you tried that? I don't know about old school shiz, but fatties have an o-ring in there.....
Hockey390
Ya, I'm going to see about getting some o-rings, cause I'm pretty sure they dont have any in them.. The old school fatties are more of a curve down by the engine, but the new ones are like flat, then change directions with a nice angle, so i would think the new style's are designed better to fit.. oh well.. Hockey390
Just wondering if you all think i should drop the $260 bones on brand new FMF fatties.. Think it will fix my problem?? Say my headers are both leaking exhaust and oil out, and then where they connect to the silencer there is more exhaust coming out.. If I got it all sealed up, will it run better? Is anyone running this setup? I dont really mind spending the money on it, because my im addicted...but thats not the point, the point is.. is it wasted money that I should be putting towards fuel for my next ride? BenBB
I dunno for sure if it would solve your problem, but you might keep an eye out for some used expansion chambers. For sure try new o-rings, and if the springs aren't tight enough to make a good seal at the jugs you can curl one end a little bit to add some tension. An exhuast leak can case a lean condition, aside from the mess, so I'd try to get her sealed up the best you can. Good luck.
